‘Operation Sindoor' a fitting tribute, says daughter of Pahalgam terror victim
Arathy, daughter of N. Ramachandran, who was tragically killed in a recent terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam has voiced strong support for the Indian Army's retaliatory mission, 'Operation Sindoor.'
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, she expressed hope that the operation would bring solace to families devastated by the brutal violence.
Arathy's father was shot dead by terrorists on April 22 while the family was vacationing in Pahalgam. Recalling the trauma of witnessing the attack firsthand, Arathy said the military response was a powerful and appropriate reply to the atrocities.
'There could not have been a more suitable title than 'Operation Sindoor' for this mission,' she said. 'It's a fitting answer to those who took away our fathers, brothers, and husbands right before our eyes.'

The Union defence minister said that the tradition of training in the BJP is continuous. "It is a part of the party's working style. Today the BJP is the largest party and has a distinct identity. But three things did not change in this development journey of the party. These are training, cultural nationalism, and the spirit of poor welfare," Rajnath Singh said. He said that the training camp is an opportunity for elected representatives to understand and assimilate the ideological journey of the party, and to introspect. Former BJP National President Rajnath Singh said that former Prime Minister and party patriarch Atal Behari Vajpayee said that the purpose of attaining power should only be for national service. Rajnath Singh also told the senior BJP leaders' congregation, "Do politics with decency, humility, and determination and remember that we are not just going to make or change laws, but also change people's lives. The post you got is really a big responsibility. It is for public service. It is to make India a powerful, developed, and inclusive nation." The Union defence minister said, "Developed India is not our goal, but our resolve. The country is moving towards self-reliance in every field."

SC halts IAF's move to release woman officer denied permanent commission
NEW DELHI: Coming to the rescue of an Indian Air Force woman officer who was denied permanent commission, the Supreme Court on Monday, in its interim order, directed the Centre and the IAF not to release her from service until further hearing on August 6. A two-judge vacation bench of the top court, headed by Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Manmohan, referred to the May 22 order of the court in which similar directions were issued to the Centre and the IAF. The apex court passed the order after hearing a plea filed by Wing Commander Niketa Pandey and said the same directions would apply in the case of Wing Commander Kavita Bhati. Stressing that it was 'without prejudice to the rights of the parties or equity in favour of the officer', the bench posted the matter for further hearing on August 6 before a regular bench, when a batch of petitions related to the IAF would be taken up. The petitioner, Pandey — who was part of Operation Balakot and Operation Sindoor — claimed that she was denied permanent commission. 'I am unfairly treated and discriminated [against] on the issue of being granted permanent commission,' Pandey further alleged.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Canada on Monday to participate in the G7 summit in Kananaskis, marking his first visit to the country in ten years. PM Modi is currently on a four-day tour covering three nations — Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia. After completing the first leg of his trip in Cyprus, he will head to Canada at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This will be Modi's sixth consecutive appearance at the G7 summit, which is scheduled to take place from June 16 to 17 in Kananaskis. 'At the summit, the Prime Minister will exchange views with leaders of G-7 countries, other invited outreach countries and Heads of International Organisations on crucial global issues, including energy security, technology and innovation, particularly the AI-energy nexus and Quantum-related issues," the Ministry of External Affairs said in New Delhi. PM Modi is also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit. His visit comes a little over a month after India's Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attacks. The Prime Minister last visited Canada in 2015, a trip that helped elevate India-Canada relations to a strategic partnership. In 2024, bilateral trade in goods between the two countries reached USD 8.6 billion, with India exporting goods worth USD 4.2 billion and importing USD 4.4 billion. Trade in services stood at USD 14.3 billion, with India's exports valued at USD 2.5 billion and imports at USD 11.8 billion. The upcoming G7 summit takes place against a backdrop of escalating global tensions, including the intensifying conflict between Iran and Israel and trade disputes driven by US President Donald Trump's tariff policies. Trump arrived in Kananaskis on Sunday for the summit and is expected to meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday. The US President will also hold bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo during the summit. Canada took over the G7's rotating presidency on January 1, 2025. This year's gathering marks the 50th anniversary of the G7 summit.
