Pahalgam terror victim's daughter lauds attack on Pakistan
The Indian armed forces must carry out attacks similar to the ones they conducted pre-dawn on Wednesday at multiple targets in Pakistan (and POJK), if innocent civilians continue to be killed in terrorist attacks in India, Arathy, the daughter of Edappally native N. Ramachandran who was gunned down by terrorists at Pahalgam in front of her and her children, said here on Wednesday. 'While none can compensate us for the loss, I feel proud of our men in uniform who braved adversities and attacked the terrorist hideouts. It came as a relief, and the news came as a comforting moment, since what the terrorists did were acts of cowardice. I am praying for more strength for the armed forces,' she said. On the attack being christened Operation Sindoor, she said that there is no name that is more apt than this, especially so since the dastardly attack by the terrorists led to many women, including her mother having to erase their 'sindoor' after their husbands were killed.

"Beginning Of End Of Terror": Pahalgam Victims' Families On Op Sindoor
New Delhi: For the family of Maharashtra-based Atul Mone, who was shot dead in front of his wife and daughter in Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor spells the beginning of end of terror. When Mone's daughter found out about the strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir at 3 am, her faith in the government was reinstated, she told IANS. Another victim was Odisha's Prashant Satpathy, whose wife told reporters that the fight against terror should continue till terrorism is not wiped out. "Ghar mein ghus kar maarna chahiye (Enter their houses and eliminate them). My husband will never come back, but no one else's sindoor should get wiped out. No one should be left fatherless," Priyadarshini Acharya said. "I am elated because the terrorists will now understand the value of a human life and how precious it is. The sacrifice of my husband has not gone in vain," she said, maintaining that terrorists who killed innocent people in front of their families must live in fear if they, at all, have survived India's strike. Satpathy's younger brother Jayant said he has been waiting for the "revenge". "We do not need money, but revenge for our brother's killing. We are relieved today as the government acted as expected. All the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack must be punished," he said. Satpathy, 41, was an employee of the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology. He went to Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir with his wife and son on vacation. His nine-year-old son, Tanuj, completed his last rites on April 24. Sohini Adhikari, whose husband Bitan Adhikari was among the 26 civilians killed by terrorists in the Baisaran meadow, told NDTV, "The terror strike shows that the government took the action they had committed. I hope no one else ever has to see their husband being killed in cold blood in front of their child." Still coping with the trauma of seeing her father being shot down in front of her children, Kerala native N Ramachandran's daughter Arathy said the strike on terror would bring some relief to the families of those who died. She said the loss they suffered cannot be compensated by anyone, but Operation Sindoor seemed like a reply from the government and women of India. "Obviously, it is the apt name, but I don't think wiping the tears will happen. The loss, which had been inflicted, it won't be compensated. The title, 'Operation Sindoor', seems to be like a reply from the women of India through the army and the government," she said. Arathy also said she and her family are praying for the Army. "Let all Indians see a comfort in this operation. Let Operation Sindoor bring some comfort and relief to all the families of victims, including Himanshi (Narwal)," she added. Himanshi's husband was one of those killed in the terror attack, and a picture of her sitting beside his lifeless body with a crestfallen face turned out to be the defining image of the deadly incident.

‘Couldn't Have Returned Without My Kashmiri Brothers' Help': Kochi Woman Who Lost Her Father In Pahalgam Recounts Horror
Last Updated: Arathy's father N Ramachandran was asked to recite the Kalma and when he said he did not know, he was shot dead by the terrorists Arathy Menon had never imagined in her wildest dreams that a vacation she was taking with her family would end with her losing her father. Arathy, who hails from Kochi, Kerala, was in Pahalgam on April 22 when she was caught in the terrorist attack. Sharing her terrifying experience with CNN-News18, Arathy, who was with her father N Ramachandran and her children, said they were enjoying the scenic spot known as 'Mini Switzerland' when they suddenly heard a commotion. Arathy quickly realised they were under attack by terrorists. In a desperate attempt to protect her family, she took her father and children to hide in a nearby toilet. She tried calling her driver, but there was no network. They decided to move out, searching for a way to escape when they heard 10 gunshots. As they ran, for 30 long minutes, she heard continuous gunfire. The terrorists eventually found them and demanded they recite the 'Kalma.' When her father replied, 'I don't know," they shot him. Arathy held her father as he died in her arms. Despite being from Kerala, Arathy said she and her children received immense support from the local Kashmiri people. Her driver and the locals provided them with clothes and helped them return safely. Arathy expressed her unwavering trust in Prime Minister Modi and the government, emphasising that her statement was not political. She concluded with a heartfelt 'Namaste and Jai Hind," recounting their arduous escape down the mountain range. Twenty-six people were killed when terrorists attacked the scenic tourist spot as people were holidaying. In his first response to the brutal Pahalgam attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the entire country knows how 'terrorists brutally killed innocent, and India stands with the family of victims". Speaking about the Pahalgam incident, PM Modi said: 'Conspirators and terrorists, who committed this will get punishment beyond their imagination." First Published: April 24, 2025, 15:38 IST
