Man held after encounter day after molesting schoolgirl
Bareilly: A 20-year-old man was arrested after a brief encounter, in which he was shot in the leg, for allegedly stalking and molesting a schoolgirl, 15, on her way back home from coaching, police said on Monday.
Officers said the girl, in her school uniform, was walking home on Saturday evening when Mohd Mussabir approached her on a bike, turned around after passing her, made lewd comments and assaulted her. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.
The girl's father filed a complaint at the Izzatnagar police station and an FIR was filed under BNS section 78 (stalking). Three teams were formed to trace Musabbir, a resident of Math Kamal Nayanpur in Izzatnagar.
Circle officer Pankaj Srivastava said Musabbir was in a garden in the Karmachari Nagar outpost area on Sunday night. "However, he attempted to flee and fired at the team with a countrymade pistol. He was shot in the right leg in retaliatory firing and taken into custody," he said.
Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya said, "The man's actions were clear in the CCTV video. When cornered, he fired at the police and the pistol he used was seized. A separate case has now been filed against Mussabir under the Arms Act and BNS section 109 (attempt to murder). He was produced in court on Monday and sent to jail."

Pre-arrest bail denied to man booked for ‘sharing objectionable post' against Maharashtra CM
The sessions court in Mumbai rejected anticipatory bail application of a Pune resident booked for allegedly sharing an objectionable post against Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, noting that no case was made out for pre-arrest bail considering the nature of offence against him. Additional sessions judge Prashant C Kale on June 21 passed an order on an application by city resident Santosh Ramchandra Darekar, apprehending arrest in connection with the FIR registered by Cyber Cell, nodal office. The FIR was registered for offences punishable under sections 197(1)(c) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 353(2) (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (BNS) along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. As per the prosecution, the complaint was registered by BJP leader Yojna Virendra Thokle alleging that Darekar shared an objectionable post on Facebook against Fadnavis on May 23. However, the applicant argued that he was falsely implicated in the case. He added that while the notice under section 35(3) of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was sent to the applicant, he could not remain present before the investigating officer due to the illness of his mother. The applicant argued that he was not having any criminal antecedents and was ready to cooperate with the investigating agency and would abide by all the conditions if he was granted anticipatory bail. The prosecution opposed the plea stating that Darekar had prima facie committed the offence and his mobile was required to be seized to conduct its technical analysis, and therefore he should not be granted pre-arrest bail. The court noted that the probe was in progress and there was a 'prima facie case against the accused and that can not be ignored or overlooked'. Rejecting his plea, the court added that Darekar has not complied with notice issued to him and 'the grounds for refusal of anticipatory bail put forth by the investigating agency are apparently genuine'.

Blaze in container truck carrying chemicals, garments near Balewadi
Pune: A container truck caught fire near Balewadi on the Pune-Bengaluru highway in the early hours of Saturday, but fortunately no one was injured. Police investigations revealed that officials of a company had kept chemicals, garments, electronic items and furniture in the container instead of arranging separate vehicles for the transportation of chemicals. No proper permission was obtained for the transportation of chemicals either. "The fire broke out inside the moving container because of friction. After noticing the blaze, the driver stopped the vehicle along the road," an officer from the Bavdhan police said. The officer said the driver told the police that a transport operator from Bengaluru in Karnataka owned the container truck. A chemical company from Ulhasnagar in Thane district had hired it to transport some chemicals, garments, electronics items, furniture and LED bulbs. "To save the charges for a separate vehicle to transport chemicals, the company officials had kept the chemicals with the other items in the container truck," the officer said. He said the company officials, the transport operator and the driver had been charged under sections 326 (mischief by injury, inundation, fire or explosive substance), 286 (negligent conduct with respect to poisonous substance) and 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 190 (using vehicle in unsafe condition) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
