Orlando man sentenced to life for killing pastor's wife in home invasion

ORLANDO, Fla. - Ronald Davis, the man accused of a home invasion that took the life of an Orlando pastor's wife entered the guilty plea in court on Tuesday, reversing his earlier plea of not guilty.
A judge sentenced him to life in prison on multiple charges.
The backstory
According to Orlando police, Davis posed as a community services officer when he knocked on Curl's door at her Caribbean Court home in January. After forcing his way inside, Davis attacked Curl, rendering her unconscious. She later died from her injuries.
In addition to the murder charge, Davis also faced charges linked to a 2024 burglary that occurred just a street away from Curl's residence.
Lucy Pat Curl, remembered as a devoted community servant, spent over five decades contributing to her church and local causes. Her husband, Bill Curl, is a pastor at the First Baptist Church of Orlando.
Davis has 30 days to appeal his conviction.
What we know
Davis, 55, was quickly identified as the suspect after leaving his wallet and driver's license at the scene, according to an arrest affidavit. Police later found him sleeping inside a shed on a residential property a few miles from the victim's home.

Davis was arrested on charges of home invasion robbery with a weapon, aggravated battery on person over 65 with great bodily harm and aggravated battery with a weapon. On Wednesday, police added an additional charge of first-degree murder in the commission of a home invasion following Lucy's death.
Investigators said Davis was released from prison in June 2024 after serving a 15-year concurrent sentence for burglary of a dwelling with assault and battery, as well as robbery.

A spokesperson for First Baptist Church of Orlando confirmed to FOX 35 News that she is the wife of Pastor William "Bill" Curl.
The Orlando Police Department identified her as the victim of a home invasion that occurred last week.

Suspect arrested in Brevard County after trying to bomb state radio tower, deputies say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A suspect has been taken into custody in Brevard County after deputies say he attempted to bomb a state radio tower. Officials say the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. What we know Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Friday in the area of Deering Parkway Road. The vehicle was trying to pull away when deputies arrived at the scene. A number of units, including the bomb unit, were seen on Deering Parkway Road between Interstate 95 and U.S. 1. Ivey said the vehicle's driver told a story that "did not match what was going on," causing investigators to search the vehicle and discover an explosive device that the sheriff said was a possible pipe bomb. Ivey said the driver of the vehicle appeared to be angry over employment issues and planned to target one of the state radio towers. "The individual has made some statements about getting fired and things of that nature," Ivey said. Ivey said the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. He said the suspect is now in custody. What we don't know It is currently unclear what employment issues led up to the suspect attempting to target the radio tower with the explosive device. Hillsborough County deputies make arrests in shooting that injured teen
The Brief Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office have made arrests in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. Detectives said they found evidence connected to the shooting inside a bedroom belonging to a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old. A 38-year-old man was also arrested for driving with a suspended license when deputies said they found him driving the vehicle linked to the suspected shooter. PROGRESS VILLAGE, Fla. - Two teenage felons have been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. The backstory According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to the area of South 81st Street and Fir Drive shortly before 12:40 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. READ: Driver on Dale Mabry Highway claimed to have bomb in car, used drugs in front of officers: TPD Detectives said they identified the suspected shooter's vehicle and found it in Riverview. When they pulled the vehicle over, deputies said the driver, Antonio House, 38, was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license. Dig deeper A search warrant was executed where House was staying and that's where deputies said they recovered multiple guns. According to HCSO, a Glock .40 caliber handgun recovered from inside the home was ballistically matched to the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting. The HCSO Firearms Laboratory conducted the analysis and confirmed the connection between the gun and the crime scene. Both were taken into custody. The 17-year-old has been charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence.
