The British star then added the WBO belt to his collection a year later when he landed a brutal second-round TKO on Mike Balogun in Glasgow.
However, Itauma is set to face his toughest test yet as he'll be stepping into the ring with former veteran Dillian Whyte.
The Body Snatcher, 37, has been one of the most popular and dangerous heavyweights of the last decade and has signature wins over Alexander Povetkin, Derek Chisora and Joseph Parker.
But following a drugs ban, Whyte has scored two unconvincing wins against Christian Hammer and Ebenezer Tetter, as well as withdrawing from fights against Joe Joyce and Lawrence Okolie.
It's a massive crossroads fights for both men, with fans eager to know whether a win over the undefeated Itauma would see Whyte become a contender once again.
What belts are on the line?
To put it simply, none.
The minor belts are of secondary concern in this one - Moses Itauma will hold onto his WBA and WBO Intercontinental belts, whatever the outcome of the fight.
However, the result will have massive ramifications for both fighters.
Victory for Itauma would solidify his position as a top heavyweight contender and potentially move him closer to a shot at Oleksandr Usyk 's world title.
Whereas, a win for Whyte adds to the rebuild of his career and would demonstrate that he is still a force at this elite level - a defeat could leave him staring at retirement.

Toffees look tasty to take a point off Leeds at Elland Road
Leeds United are planning a huge party to celebrate their return to the Premier League but Everton are ready to gatecrash the Elland Road shindig and spoil the fun. Daniel Farke's team won 18 games in front of their own fans last season, drawing four times and losing just the once as they landed the Championship title with 100 points and a superior goal difference to Burnley. They have spent significantly during the summer with Dominic Calvert-Lewin expected to lead the attack after becoming a free agent following his decision to part company with the Toffees and he is expected to make his debut against his former side. Everton aren't expected to flourish this season but it would be folly to write them off as below-par cannon fodder as they finished last term with a respectable 31 points from 18 matches, with the run started with victories over Tottenham, Brighton and Leicester and bookended by success against Fulham, Southampton and Newcastle as they waved farewell to Goodison Park. Their only defeats were to Liverpool at Anfield, home to Manchester City and away at Chelsea and manager David Moyes has recruited well to strengthen a squad which finished 13th. If a few of the draws in the run-in to the campaign can be converted into wins they could easily finish in the top halfand playing at their luxurious new Hill Dickinson home should give Everton an advantage as they seek to return to the distant days when they were a competitive force on the domestic scene. Everton were average away from home, winning six, drawing the same number and losing seven last season and the key additions of Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City with a view to a £50million purchase, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who cost £24m from Chelsea, strengthen a midfield where Idrissa Gueye has the skills to shine. Grealish may not start against Leeds and the Toffees are also without injured England international Jarrad Branthwaite in the heart of their defence but should still have enough about them to gain a share of the spoils with the draw 12/5 with bet365 and BetVictor and a 1-1 final score 6/1 with the former firm. More Trending Joel Pirloe led the Championship with 19 goals last term and is 5/2 with Betfred, Bresbet and BetGoodwin to score for Leeds at any time in this Premier League opener, while Dewsbury-Hall can celebrate his Everton debut with a goal at 7/1 with Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Bet. Graham Potter was our 12/1 selection with StarSports last week to be the next manager to leave his post and following the Hammers' 3-0 shellacking at newly promoted Sunderland on Saturday, the former Brighton and Chelsea boss has been cut to just 2/1 with William Hill and BetVictor. Oval Invincibles men are 8/11 with William Hill, bet365, Betfred and BoyleSports to beat Southern Brave in Hampshire as they steam towards a successful defence of their title in The Hundred. Rasmus Hojlund left out of Man United squad amid exit speculation
Rasmus Hojlund was omitted from the squad for Manchester United 's Premier League opener against Arsenal as speculation swirls about his future. The 22-year-old striker has failed to justify his price tag since joining Atalanta two years ago for £64million plus a potential £8m in add-ons. Hojlund has been linked with a return to Serie A this summer and was an unused substitute in United's final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina last weekend. New signing Benjamin Sesko was presented before that game and was included on the bench against the Gunners at Old Trafford, where the Denmark international was conspicuous by his absence. Ruben Amorim also left Andre Onana out of Sunday's squad, although the Cameroon international has only recently returned to training after a hamstring issue that disrupted his pre-season. Altay Bayindir lined up between the sticks for United, who handed debuts to summer acquisitions Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Viktor Gyokeres, who worked under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, and Martin Zubimendi made their Arsenal debuts.

Nottingham Forest ease Nuno Espirito Santo's fears by sweeping aside Brentford
Nottingham Forest made a mockery of Nuno Espirito Santo's pre-match worries as they beat Brentford 3-1 in their opening game of the Premier League season. Nuno expressed his 'concern' for the campaign ahead of the match, citing a lack of options in his squad, but he will feel better after a rampant display at the City Ground. After new signings Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee were unveiled before kick-off, their new team-mates put on a show as Chris Wood's double and a debut goal for Dan Ndoye put them 3-0 up at the break. With more signings to come and a Europa League journey to look forward to after last season's seventh-place finish, Forest fans may have more optimism than their manager after this opener. It was the start that new Brentford boss Keith Andrews would have dreaded. With Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard sold over the summer and Yoane Wissa effectively on strike trying to force a move away, Andrews has not been handed the easiest of tasks in his first managerial role. Igor Thiago got the Bees on the scoresheet with a second-half penalty, but life after Thomas Frank began poorly. Forest had only scored one goal in six excruciating pre-season friendlies, but they needed just six minutes to break the deadlock. Elliot Anderson's corner fell to Wood and the striker picked up where he left off last season by slamming home the loose ball from close range. Such was the novelty of scoring a goal, the celebrations on the touchline were wild, with goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa needing medical treatment after hitting his head on the roof of the dugout and suffering a nasty cut. Forest were electric and almost scored a brilliant team goal as new signing Ndoye, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anderson all combined, with the latter seeing a goalbound shot well blocked by Sepp van den Berg. Brentford looked to establish themselves in the game and forced goalkeeper Matz Sels into a good save when Yehor Yarmolyuk fizzed in a low shot. But Forest continued to dominate and two goals in five minutes before half-time sent them into dreamland. In the 42nd minute Gibbs-White arced in a delicious cross for Ndoye to send a flying header into the top corner. Then in the second minute of time added on Wood doubled his tally when he latched on to Anderson's through ball and rounded Caoimhin Kelleher to put it in an empty net. Forest were irresistible after the break as they searched for more goals. Callum Hudson-Odoi, on the brink of signing a new contract, stung the palms of Kelleher before Gibbs-White hooked an acrobatic effort just over the crossbar. Brentford brought on Jordan Henderson in the 68th minute as they tried to stem the tide and 10 minutes later they had reduced their deficit. Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare handled the ball in the area and Thiago rolled home the resulting penalty. There was no grandstand finish, though, as Forest got their season off to a winning start.
