NDB Chief Rousseff Joins Yoga Event In Shanghai, Condoles Air India Crash
New Development Bank (NDB) President and former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff attended the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025 curtain raiser event in Shanghai on Friday.
During her address, Rousseff expressed profound grief over the tragic crash of the Air India flight in Ahmedabad and extended heartfelt condolences to the victims' families.
"Speaking at the #IDY2025 curtain raiser, Dilma Rouseff, President of New Development Bank and former President of Brazil, expressed deep sorrow on the tragic crash of the Air India flight in Ahmedabad, and conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and Government of India. She also expressed her best wishes for the speedy recovery of the sole survivor," the Consulate General of India in Shanghai said in a post on X.

The London-bound Air India 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad International Airport on Thursday, killing all 241 people on board, including crew members. One person survived and is currently being treated.
Speaking on the significance of the International Day of Yoga, Rousseff said the occasion had become a symbol of peace and resilience.
"Yoga is one of India's greatest gifts to the world, a practice that transcends geography, language and belief. Rooted in ancient wisdom, yoga teaches us how to live in balance with ourselves, with others and the world. That's why the United Nations adopted the proposal made by Prime Minister @narendramodi to recognise June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. Since then, this day has become a symbol of peace and resilience, values that are very important in today's world," Rousseff said, as quoted by the Consulate.

Consul General Pratik Mathur and other Indian officials were present at the event, which marked the beginning of celebrations leading up to IDY 2025.
India's national celebration will be held in Visakhapatnam, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session alongside over five lakh participants. Concurrently, 'Yoga Sangam' sessions will take place at more than one lakh locations across India, in what is expected to be one of the world's largest synchronised yoga demonstrations.
Rousseff also praised India's role in founding the New Development Bank and highlighted PM Modi's key contribution.
"Recognising India's pivotal role in the establishment of NDB, she said, 'India is not only a founding member of NDB, it's a country without which this bank would not exist. Prime Minister Modi was one of the founders and all of us are on a mission to create an important bank for the world," the Consulate General added.

Furthermore, Vietnam's ongoing efforts to advance South-South cooperation and sustainable development align with the BRICS agenda. This admission is considered a strategic move for Vietnam to diversify its global partnerships and strengthen its economic standing. As a partner country, Vietnam can participate in BRICS summits and various discussions, subject to consensual approval from member states. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's presence at the BRICS+ Summit in Kazan in October 2024, the first time a Vietnamese leader attended a main BRICS meeting, foreshadowed this development. Checks completed on nine Boeing 787s; inspection on track for 24 others: Air India on DCGA's directive
New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): Following a directive from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) mandating enhanced safety checks on Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet, the airline on Saturday stated that inspections on nine out of its 33 Dreamliner aircraft had been completed. The remaining 24 aircraft are on track to be inspected within the timeline provided by the civil aviation regulator. In a post on X, an Air India spokesperson stated that the safety inspections are being conducted as the 787 fleet returns to India, with each aircraft undergoing thorough evaluations before being cleared for its next operation. The move came following the tragic crash of the London-bound AI171 flight that rammed into a doctors' hostel of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area in Gujarat's Ahmedabad seconds after it took off from the Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport on Thursday. The DGCA on Friday directed Air India to immediately carry out the additional maintenance actions on its B787-8/9 aircraft equipped with Genx engines in coordination with the concerned regional DGCA offices. 'Air India is in the process of completing the one-time safety checks directed by the Indian aviation regulator, DGCA. These checks are being carried out on the Boeing 787 fleet as they return to India, before being cleared for their next operations. Air India has completed such checks on nine of the Boeing 787 aircraft and are on track to complete this process for the remaining 24 aircraft within the timeline provided by the regulator,' Air India stated. Acknowledging potential disruptions, Air India warned that some checks might lead to increased turnaround times and possible delays, particularly on long-haul routes to airports with operating curfews. The airline has also offered e-funds on cancellations or complimentary rescheduling for those impacted by the disruptions. 'Some of these checks could lead to higher turnaround times and potential delays on certain long-haul routes, especially those to airports with operating curfews. Customers will be duly notified about any customers affected by this disruption, refunds on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling are being offered to those who opt for it,' the airline added. As per the directive, Air India has been asked to conduct a few one-time checks before the departure of flights from India starting Sunday. The tests include inspection of Fuel Parameter Monitoring and associated system checks; inspection of cabin air compressor and associated systems; Electronic Engine Control System Test; Engine Fuel Driven Actuator-Operational Test and oil system check; serviceability check of Hydraulic system; and Review of Take-off parameters. Besides, Air India has been asked to introduce 'Flight Control Inspection' in transit inspection till further notice. Further, power assurance checks must be carried out within two weeks. DGCA has also asked the Tata Group-owned airline to close maintenance actions as soon as possible, based on the review of repetitive snags on B787-8/9 aircraft during the last 15 days. The regulator told Air India that all the reports of these checks are to be submitted to the DGCA for review. Earlier on Thursday, the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was en route to London from Ahmedabad when it crashed shortly after takeoff. There were 242 people on board, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Of the passengers, 241 died in the crash. The lone survivor, identified as Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a British national of Indian origin, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. (ANI)

Speaking with the media, the SP chief said the incident was very sad and prayed that no such incidents would happen again. 'The incident that happened in Ahmedabad is very sad. It is very sad to see this, and one wonders how this happened. In today's time when technology has become so advanced... the incident is being investigated. When the investigation report comes, the truth will come out, but we pray that such an incident does not happen again,' Akhilesh Yadav said. The AI-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, bound for London's Gatwick, crashed shortly after taking off from the Ahmedabad International Airport on Thursday. The airline said 241 people on board the aircraft died in the crash, while only one passenger survived. Earlier in the day, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu issued an order to extend the scrutiny of the Boeing Dreamliner 787 series planes present in the Indian Aircraft fleet after the crash. Naidu further stated that around eight Boeing 787 Series aircraft have already been scrutinised and inspected with immediate urgency. Addressing a press conference here, the Union Civil Aviation Minister said, 'We have very strict safety standards in the the incident happened, we also felt that there is a need to do an extended surveillance of the Boeing 787 Series. DGCA has also given an order to do the extended surveillance for the Boeing 787 planes. There are 34 in our Indian aircraft fleet today. I believe that 8 have already been inspected, and with immediate urgency, all of them are going to be done.' 'Furthermore, as the investigation is going to proceed and the report is going to come, whatever necessary steps need to be taken, we are going to ensure that without any hesitation, we are going to improve every necessary thing that is going to come our way to improve the safety', he added. The Union Minister further informed that Air India has been instructed to facilitate the process of assisting the families of the passengers in every possible way. He added that the bodies are being given to the respective families after confirmation from DNA testing and hoped that this process would be completed soon. The central government has already constituted a high-level multidisciplinary committee for examining the causes leading to the crash of Air India Flight AI-171. (ANI)
