India-backed Fitna Al Khwarij behind North Waziristan attack: ISPR

Express Tribune22-05-2025

India-backed Fitna Al Khwarij behind attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, said the ISPR on Wednesday, referring to the strike that killed four children and triggered a protest by local tribesmen on May 19.
The ISPR dispelled claims of involvement of the security forces in the attack as "entirely baseless" and part of a "coordinated disinformation campaign" aimed at discrediting counterterrorism efforts in the region.
An investigation launched into the incident found that the killings were orchestrated by Fitna Al Khwarij, a group Islamabad accuses of being funded and directed by Indian intelligence agencies.
"These elements—acting at the behest of their Indian masters—continue to exploit civilian areas and vulnerable populations as shields to conduct acts of terrorism," the statement said.
The military said such tactics are meant to create rifts between the local population and security forces. Despite the attack, officials said the armed forces remain committed to their mission. "Efforts are ongoing to ensure those responsible for this inhuman act are brought to justice," the statement added.
According to local sources, five people, including a woman, were also injured in the incident which was allegedly caused by ammunition drop by a quad-copter on a house in the Hormus village of Mir Ali.
Locals rushed the injured to the Mir Ali tehsil hospital, where some of the injured are also said to be in critical condition. The incident has triggered a wave of anger and grief, with residents staging a sit-in protest at Mir Ali Chowk since Sunday.

Medical officials at Shifa and Al-Quds Hospitals said at least 25 people were killed as they approached the aid site near the former settlement of Netzarim, and dozens were wounded. Ten other people were killed in other Israeli military strikes in Khan Younis in the south of the enclave, they added. The Israeli military had no immediate comment. On Tuesday, when Gaza health officials said 17 people were killed near another GHF aid site in Rafah in southern Gaza, the army said it fired warning shots to distance 'suspects' who were approaching the troops and posed a threat. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday there had been 'significant progress' in efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza, but that it was 'too soon' to raise hopes that a deal would be reached. Israel strike on Lebanon kills two Despite efforts by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar to restore a ceasefire in Gaza, neither Israel nor Hamas has shown willingness to back down on core demands, with each side blaming the other for the failure to reach a deal. Two Hamas sources told Reuters they did not know about any new ceasefire offers. The war erupted after Hamas-led took 251 hostages and killed 1,200 people, most of them civilians, in an October 7, 2023, attack, Israel's single deadliest day. Gaza rescuers say at least 10 killed in Israel strikes Israel's military campaign has since killed nearly 55,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to health authorities in Gaza, and flattened much of the coastal enclave.

Medics said the casualties were rushed to two hospitals, the Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, and the Al-Quds in Gaza City, in the north. Two killed in Nablus Nablus. At least two Palestinians were killed Tuesday as Israel launched a large-scale military operation in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian health ministry and the Israeli army said. The military said troops opened fire and "eliminated" two Palestinians who had attempted to steal a soldier's weapon as the "counterterrorism operation" was underway in the old city of Nablus. Meanwhile, Israel deported campaigner Greta Thunberg on a flight to Sweden via France on Tuesday, after detaining her along with other activists aboard a Gaza-bound aid boat.
