Standard Chartered says it is saving millions of dollars by using ‘talent marketplace'

Standard Chartered said it was saving millions of dollars and filling more jobs internally as it reaped the benefits of its 'talent marketplace', while further preparing its employees for the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

The London-based lender, which generates most of its business in Asia, tested the talent platform in 2021 in India before launching it globally a year later 'to match the demand and supply on the basis of skills', chief strategy and talent officer Tanuj Kapilashrami said in an interview late last month.
More than 39,000, or nearly 50 per cent, of its employees were active in the marketplace, which had unlocked over US$8.5 million in cost savings since its launch, the bank said. For each project completed internally via the platform, the bank estimates its cost savings compared with hiring external candidates.
It added that the share of jobs filled internally increased by 10 per cent over the past year.
'The investment we are making goes beyond generic training,' Kapilashrami said. 'It's about creating a platform for people to participate in exciting projects and doing so in an innovative way.'

The approach has led to improved retention and greater engagement among its staff, which 'ultimately impacts our business performance and share price', she added.

SoftBank selects banks for US IPO of payments app PayPay amid tech rebound, sources say

SoftBank Group has selected investment banks to help organise a potential initial public offering (IPO) in the US for its Japanese payments app operator PayPay, according to two people familiar with the matter. The banks leading preparations for the listing were Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Mizuho Financial Group and Morgan Stanley, the sources said. The PayPay offering may raise more than US$2 billion from investors when it takes place, which the sources said could be as soon as the final quarter of this year. The sources declined to be named as the information was not public and cautioned that factors including timing and the amount the IPO could raise are subject to market conditions. SoftBank, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Mizuho and Morgan Stanley declined to comment. PayPay played a role in encouraging Japanese consumers to move away from a long-standing preference for cash by offering rebates on payments through its mobile app.

CreateAI, formerly known as the autonomous vehicle firm TuSimple , aims to make Heroes of Jin Yong 'one of the largest-scale triple-A, open-world role-playing games (RPGs)' in the market, president and CEO Lu Cheng told the South China Morning Post on the sidelines of the recent ChinaJoy 2025 trade show in Shanghai He said CreateAI's global rights cover the development of Cha's intellectual property into an open-world RPG for personal computers and the PlayStation 5 console from Sony Interactive Entertainment 'It is a huge software engineering project,' Lu said. He pointed out that the most difficult part of the development process was maintaining the high standards for both the game's aesthetics and combat features, while handling a massive amount of digital resources. According to Lu, Heroes of Jin Yong will feature characters across a span of 300 years and more than 120 famous scenes from Cha's 15 martial arts novels. Hong Kong ultra-luxury homes: mainland Chinese buyers drive US$3 billion buying spree

Hong Kong's super luxury property market has seen 35 transactions worth about HK$23 billion (US$2.93 billion) in the past 19 months, with ownership shifting from local property-industry tycoons to mainland buyers who have made their fortunes in hot industries, according to Savills. Wealthy buyers from mainland China accounted for 80 per cent of the deals worth HK$300 million or more – 24 in 2024 and nine in the first seven months of this year, said Thomas See, the property consultancy's director and head of residential sales. 'They came from emerging industries in mainland China,' such as AI, fintech and gaming, or industries that grew in profitability during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, like healthcare and logistics, he said. Twenty-four of the super-prime properties were located on Hong Kong Island, from The Peak to Jardine's Lookout and the Southside, while 11 were in Kowloon's Kai Tak and Kowloon Tong areas. In April, the wife of the co-founder of Chinese selfie app Meitu bought a HK$465.8 million home in the upscale Jardine's Lookout neighbourhood. Wang Baoshan, who closed the deal for the 5,466 sq ft detached house at 8 Perkins Road, is the spouse of Meitu co-founder Mike Cai Wensheng, according to the company's annual report. The price was 22 per cent below the asking price of HK$600 million, according to an agent who mainly deals in luxury homes. The Meitu executive recently had a net worth of about US$1.1 billion, according to Forbes.
