Pete Crow-Armstrong (knee) out of Cubs' lineup Monday
Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters before Monday's home game against the Kansas City Royals that Armstrong tweaked his knee Sunday against the Boston Red Sox.
"He just banged it up (on a slide)," Counsell told reporters. "Woke up (today) and it felt a little swollen. So we're just going to try to give him the day today. And hopefully back in there tomorrow."
It marks just the second time this season the National League leader in Wins Above Replacement has not played. Seiya Suzuki made his debut in center field in Crow-Armstrong's stead.
The 23-year-old Crow-Armstrong has been one of the majors' most improved players this season. After compiling a .237 batting average with 10 homers and 27 stolen bases in 123 games as a rookie, the lefty has produced a .270 batting average with 26 homers, 72 RBIs and 28 stolen bases this season.
He's the only player in the bigs with at least 25 homers and 25 steals.

Lisandro Martinez will travel but is unlikely to play as he continues his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament injury. United's latest new signing, Mbeumo, was on the plane after completing his £71million move from Brentford just in time for the tour which sees United compete in the Premier League Summer Series against West Ham in New Jersey, Bournemouth in Chicago and Everton in Atlanta. As expected, Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad' have been left behind to train at Carrington as Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia seek moves away from Old Trafford this summer. Marcus Rashford is already in Barcelona ahead of his unveiling on Wednesday. United's third signing of the summer, Paraguayan left back Diego Leon, has also been included on the tour along with some of United's other promising youngsters, Tyler Fredricson, Reece Munro, Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Bendito Mantato, Chido Obi and Ethan Williams. They have four more pre-season games until they kick off their new campaign on August 17, facing the three sides in the Summer Series before taking on Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9.

Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin refused to report to training camp on Tuesday amid his bitter contract dispute with the team. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, McLaurin, 29, was not present for the Commanders' conditioning test which marked the unofficial start of their training camp. It is believed every other player on the roster was present and accounted for. McLaurin - who is viewed as one of the best wide receivers in the league - is entering the final year of his current deal with the Commanders, which he signed in 2022. The former Ohio State star has been a mainstay in the side since being drafted in 2019 but notably elevated his game last year, despite missing out on the Super Bowl. As a result, McLaurin feels as though he's done enough to earn a new deal and made that clear as he spoke to press last week. He said: 'I've been pretty frustrated, I'm not going to lie. Everything that has transpired up until this point has been disappointing and frustrating. 'I want to continue my career here. I've created my life here. My wife and I bought our first home here. This has been somewhere I've always wanted to be'. He later added: 'Without any progressive discussions, it's hard to see me stepping on the field.'
