Tasman Targets Anti-Social Road Users
This was in response to an increase in complaints from the local community.
Two search warrants were executed, resulting in a stolen firearm being located and three vehicle impounds for sustained loss of traction and driver licence offences.
Further Police activities occurred across the district with Tasman Police staff supported by the Anti-Social Road User team from Christchurch.
The team deployed across Nelson Bays and Marlborough resulting in over 50 vehicles being inspected and deemed unsafe or defective.
Five more vehicles were impounded for Land Transport Act offences.
Over 100 Infringement notices were issued for speeding, restraint and distraction offences amongst many others.
Following the operation, Police have laid charges against multiple individuals for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, sustained loss of traction, driving whilst suspended, driving whilst disqualified and threatening behaviour. Further charges are being considered.

One injured after altercation in Awakeri, Bay of Plenty

Eastern Bay of Plenty Area Commander inspector Nicky Cooney said at about 4.30pm police were called to the altercation between two people at a property on State Highway 30. "One person appeared to have received critical injuries. The person taken into custody is assisting police with our enquiries." No one else was being sought in relation to the incident. South Island fraudsters faked cancer to rip off $1m from family and friends

Photo: NZ Police A couple living the high life in Wānaka allegedly faked cancer to rip off their family and friends for $1 million, which they spent on expensive cars and properties. Police executed a warrant earlier today at a Wānaka address and charged a 28-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman with defrauding a person of $1,044,500 over the past two years. Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Dye said in a statement the pair had recently moved to Wānaka from the West Coast where they had been living "the high life". Their lavish lifestyle of rented properties and high end European cars was funded with money allegedly defrauded from family, friends and associates, for cancer treatment that inquiries show was never required and never obtained. The Tasman Organised Crime Unit had been investigating this matter for two weeks and had "acted as promptly as possible to prevent further offending on this scale. 'Inquiries to date including an ongoing financial analysis of bank accounts used by the couple which indicates there are other victims who have not yet spoken with police. "We're identifying who they are and will be investigating their complaints.' Det Sen Sgt Dye said the couple would appear in the Queenstown District Court where bail was opposed. Police were seizing assets where possible to assist with any possible reparation, and so that potential victims were protected. 'If you feel like you have given money away to this couple that matches with some of the deceptive reasons mentioned here or have information that can assist the inquiry, contact the Tasman Organised Crime Unit,' Det Sen Sgt Dye said. Teens arrested after school staffer robbed in Whangārei

(File photo) Photo: RNZ / Richard Tindiller Two teenagers have been arrested after a school staffer was allegedly robbed on her way to work in Whangārei. Police said a laptop the believed had been stolen, which contained irreplaceable study material had also been recovered. It's understood the Mandarin language assistant was allegedly threatened with a knife while walking through an alleyway near Onerahi School about 3pm on Friday. At the time police said the offenders, who were clad all in black, made off with a bag containing the woman's laptop, wallet and other items. The woman was not physically harmed but the daylight incident rattled the harbourside suburb of Onerahi. In a social media post the school said it was "shocked and saddened" and implored local residents to keep an eye out for the woman's possessions, as well as passing on any information to police. Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer, of the Northland CIB, said two teenagers had since been arrested, with the younger of the pair, aged 14, charged with aggravated robbery and breaching bail. He appeared in the Whangārei Youth Court on Thursday morning. Another teenager, aged 16, had been referred to Youth Aid. Pilmer said an Onerahi address was searched as part of the investigation. "Crucially, we have located a laptop that was in the woman's bag at the time… This is a great result in both holding these two males to account, and recovering the laptop as I know it contained irreplaceable university material." Pilmer said the Northland community would not tolerate violence or other intimidation.
