Kuwait's Dasman Diabetes Institute adopts special strategy for treating diabetes
KUWAIT: Dasman Diabetes Institute has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to establish Kuwait's National Genome Project, which blended genetic data according to lifestyle and environmental factors that may lead to developing diseases namely diabetes.
Dr. Faisal Al-Rifai, the center's Director General, explained the strategy in a press statement, noting that excerpts were published by the renowned journal, Genetics Review Nature. Dasman Institute's vision is distinguished with a method, different from the conventional genome projects, integrating the genetic information with living and ecological factors with such approach deepening understanding of complex diseases namely the second type of diabetes, Dr. Al-Rifai said.
The institute has drawn up this strategy after a series of workshops, conferences, specialized initiatives namely the precision medicine workshop that had been held in coordination with American academies.
Dr. Al-Rifai underscored the high significance of the institute effort at this level amid hike of diabetic and obese cases in Kuwait, mentioning aggravating non-genetic factors such as the hard climatic conditions and pollution. The institute conducts scientific researches, works out innovative programs, provides comprehensive education for improving life of the patients and stem spread of the disease in the country. — KUNA

The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers holds its weekly meeting. KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6: The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers convened its weekly session on Tuesday morning at Bayan Palace, under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sherida Al-Mu'asherji issued a statement outlining key points discussed. The Cabinet was briefed on messages received by the Amiri Diwan, addressed to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, from leaders of sisterly and friendly countries. These communications focused on enhancing bilateral relations and activating joint cooperation between Kuwait and these countries across various fields. The Council was informed of the issuance of Decree No. (149) of 2025, which accepted the resignation of Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Noura Sulaiman Al-Fassam. Subsequently, Decree No. (150) of 2025 appointed Dr. Subaih Abdulaziz Al-Mukhaizeem as Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, in addition to his roles as Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment. In this regard, the Council expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to former Minister Al-Fassam for her dedicated efforts throughout her tenure, wishing her good health and continued success. The Cabinet also reviewed a visual presentation by Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi and senior Ministry officials outlining future plans. These include transforming the Ahmadi Health Zone into an integrated medical city, expanding Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, and improving its operational efficiency. The presentation highlighted ongoing efforts to secure medical and technical staff in coordination with relevant authorities and proposed solutions to address administrative and technical challenges. Minister Al-Awadhi reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to implementing its strategic plan in partnership with concerned bodies to ensure the delivery of advanced, sustainable health services. The Council commended the efforts of Minister Al-Awadhi and his team for their continued dedication to enhancing medical services across Kuwait's hospitals, health centers, and clinics, reflecting the country's advanced position in the healthcare sector. Additionally, the Council reviewed a presentation by Minister of State for Communications Affairs Omar Saud Al-Omar and officials from the Central Agency for Information Technology regarding Kuwait's international standing in the communications and information technology sectors. The presentation noted Kuwait's achievement of first place globally in the 2024 Information and Communication Technology Development Index (IDI), published by the International Telecommunication Union, for the second consecutive year. This milestone reflects the country's advancements in digital infrastructure, adoption of modern technologies, and leadership in fostering innovation to stimulate economic growth. The Cabinet praised Minister Al-Omar and government agencies for their efforts in implementing the Kuwait Digital Strategy, aimed at achieving a sustainable and advanced digital future, and recognized the country's accomplishments in global ICT indicators. The Council also discussed recommendations from the Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs concerning several draft laws, agreements, and memoranda of understanding between Kuwait and various sisterly and friendly nations. The Cabinet approved these recommendations and decided to submit them to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for final approval. Scientific Center, Youth Authority join forces to train youth
KUWAIT: Officials from the Scientific Center of Kuwait and the Youth Public Authority shake hands upon signing the agreement. — KUNA KUWAIT: The Scientific Center of Kuwait and the Youth Public Authority signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to strengthen youth empowerment and promote scientific and environmental awareness. The agreement, signed at the Scientific Center - one of the flagship institutions of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) - focuses on joint programs to develop the skills of young Kuwaitis and broaden their engagement with science and sustainability. 'This MoU reflects both parties' commitment to youth development and capacity building,' said Scientific Center Director General Musaed Al-Yaseen in a statement to KUNA. 'It also expands avenues for cooperation in scientific and environmental awareness and national capacity-building.' Al-Yaseen said the partnership will roll out training programs, scientific and environmental initiatives, and educational activities that target young people. 'The goal is to equip youth with essential environmental and community skills,' he said. Communication Minister notes Kuwait tops global tech index for second year KUWAIT: The Kuwaiti Cabinet on Tuesday discussed key plans by the Ministry of Health to convert the Ahmadi health zone into a fully integrated medical city and expand Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital, raising its operational efficiency as part of a broader push to improve the country's healthcare system. During its weekly meeting at Bayan Palace, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Cabinet reviewed a detailed presentation by Health Minister Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi and senior ministry officials outlining the ministry's future strategy.
