It's a bird, it's a plane...no, it's a Strawberry Moon!
This month's full moon is set to make its annual appearance overnight on June 10 to 11 and, while it always makes for a spectacular sight, this year's Strawberry Moon will be especially wonderous, as it will be the lowest full moon in nearly 20 years.
The reason for this year's Strawberry Moon's exceptionally low peak—as seen over the eastern horizon from the Northern Hemisphere—is explained by its proximity to January 2025's Major Lunar Standstill, per EarthSky.org. Indeed, according to the outlet, that the phenomenon is a result of the ever-evolving inclination of the moon's orbit, which is dragged around every 18.6 years. (The previously most recent Major Lunar Standstill occurred in 2006.)
As a result of the rare event, the Strawberry Moon will appear even larger and brighter than usual. While the moon will crest at 3:44 AM EST on June 11, it will be viewable starting in the early evening after sunset on June 10, according to EarthSky.org.

While the name "Strawberry Moon" conjures up red and pink hues, the name given to June's annual full moon actually has nothing to do with its color. Instead, the name stems from the fact that this time of year corresponds with the harvesting of strawberries in North America. Other regions have different names for June's full moon, like Honey Moon, Mead Mood and Blooming Moon.
Adding even more intrigue to this year's Strawberry Moon is the fact that it'll share close proximity to the bright red star Antares, which is the Heart of the Scorpion in the constellation Scorpius that will also be visible near this month's extra-low full moon.
For an optimal viewing experience of the rare full moon, experts suggest finding an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon, ideally on a hilltop outside of a city.

George Clooney shows off hair transformation at Tony Awards: 'I had to cut it out'

George Clooney is back to his silver fox self. The "Good Night, and Good Luck" star, who was nominated at the 78th annual Tony Awards on June 8, returned to his signature salt-and-pepper hairdo, as seen by Clooney's red-carpet appearance with wife Amal Clooney. The Oscar-winning actor had previously dyed his hair black for his starring role as CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow in the Broadway play. "I had to cut it all out with a weed whacker to get it all," Clooney told E! News. "That black hair dye, I had to cut it out. You can't color that." Despite the hairy ordeal, Clooney, 64, and Amal made a stylish splash on the Tony Awards carpet. The "ER" alum evoked Hollywood heartthrob vibes in a classic black-and-white tuxedo, while Amal, 47, stunned in a white, off-the-shoulder frock. The actor, who was up for best leading actor in a play for his portrayal of Murrow, joked about the lukewarm reception of his darker hair in an April interview with "CBS Mornings." Need a break? "Honestly, nothing makes you look older than being 63 and dyeing your hair." Just like the closing night of "Good Night, and Good Luck," which took place the same day as the Tonys, Clooney's brunette era was bound to have its final bow. The actor hinted at his hair transformation in a June 3 interview on "Late Night with Seth Meyers." "We do a matinee, and then by the time we go to the Tonys that night, it'll be gone," Clooney told Meyers. "I may have a shaved head."

'Harry Potter' actor stands by JK Rowling at Tony Awards amid criticism of her transgender views

"Harry Potter" actor Tom Felton defended JK Rowling at Sunday night's Tony Awards after being asked about the fierce liberal backlash she's received for her views on gender and biology. The British actor was on the red carpet at the awards show Sunday, where he was interviewed by Variety about reprising his film role as Draco Malfoy in the Broadway play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." The play, based off an original story co-authored by Rowling, takes place 19 years after the final "Harry Potter" novel. Felton was asked if the controversy surrounding Rowling's transgender views had affected his work at all, which he denied. Rowling has been a strong advocate for single-sex spaces for women and has repeatedly been labeled as transphobic by far-left activists. "And she's responsible for that, so I'm incredibly grateful." Felton previously expressed his admiration for the author in a 2022 interview as she faced criticism from transgender activists for her views. "I am quick to remind myself and others that 'Potter,' for some reason, has brought more people together across the world and more generations than probably anything else has in the past 20 years, and I'm quick to celebrate that," he told The Times of London in a 2022 interview. "It came from one person, and that's her, so I'm very grateful." Beyond the Broadway play, the series is also being adapted into an upcoming HBO television series. Felton shared his excitement at reprising his Potter role all these years later with his Broadway debut. "I think we all thought that the fandom flame might be doused over the years, but clearly it's not," he said Sunday. "The most exciting part is to do it live. It took nine months, more or less, to shoot a film, and this is all compact. This is all reimagined into a very loving, new type of story. And I get to be a dad, which is really fun."Original article source: 'Harry Potter' actor stands by JK Rowling at Tony Awards amid criticism of her transgender views
