Manjha Sellers Keep It Going Despite Ban
Despite the ban, sellers found new ways every year to evade law enforcement authorities while continuing the trade.
During the recent crackdowns, police found that Chinese manjha was being sold discreetly using code words and through advance bookings. The string was delivered to buyers at pre-decided locations to avoid detection. According to police sources, sellers communicated with potential buyers through encrypted messaging apps or platforms like WhatsApp.
In some cases, specific code names were used to refer to Chinese manjha in online chats.
So far, Delhi Police has seized over 1,500 reels of this lethal thread. "After crackdowns begin every year, sellers often shift operations online. They use code words and encrypted apps to communicate. We've seen cases where buyers and sellers interact and decide drop-off points through messages to stay anonymous," said an investigator.

The investigator also revealed that deliveries were made cautiously. "Before fulfilling an order, the supplier often conducts a recce of the buyer to confirm his identity and ensure that he isn't part of a police trap. Only after verifying that the person is genuine, the delivery is made."
Each Chinese manjha spool costs anywhere between Rs 700 and Rs 2,000, depending on demand and availability. Buyers are often asked to pay extra for delivery.
One of the crackdowns occurred in June when a team led by inspector Sunil Kumar Kalkhande, under the supervision of DCP (crime) Vikram Singh, found 1,170 reels of Chinese manjha from Kamla Market and Jeevan Park in Uttam Nagar. Two persons were arrested. In separate operations, 325 reels were seized from northeast Delhi's Nand Nagri and 31 from Gokalpuri.
In June, a youth on a scooter was killed in north Delhi when his throat was slit by a Chinese manjha on Rani Jhansi Road in north Delhi's Bara Hindu Rao. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Yash Goswami, a spare parts business owner. In another incident, a two-wheeler rider was injured after his face came in contact with a kite string on the Shastri Park flyover in east Delhi.

New Delhi [India], August 7 (ANI): The Delhi High Court has disposed of a plea filed by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Director of M/s Panorama Studios, seeking to quash the criminal proceedings initiated against him concerning the financial fraud case related to the overseas rights of the Ajay Devgn film 'Drishyam 2'. The case concerns allegations of a ₹ 4.3 crore fraud involving the Chinese-language distribution rights of the film across China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The FIR, which was filed in June 2025, accuses Pathak, Bharat Sevak, and others of conspiracy, document forgery, and misrepresentation of rights. Pathak approached the court to quash the FIR registered by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), contending that the matter was purely commercial in nature and had been wrongly criminalized. His counsel argued that he had already cooperated with the investigation and was exploring parallel legal remedies. Justice Neena Krishna Bansal refused to keep the petition pending or grant any interim protection, observing that the investigation is still in its early stages. The court noted that since the petitioner had already joined the probe, no interference was warranted at this point. The complaint was filed by a Delhi-based businessman who alleged he was misled into investing ₹ 4.3 crore based on forged documents. He claimed he was promised exclusive Chinese distribution rights for Drishyam 2 through a deal presented by Bharat Sevak, who introduced himself as an authorized representative of Panorama Studios and a partner at Terra Bento Mines & Minerals. Sevak allegedly produced a term sheet and facilitated meetings with key members of the production house, including Kumar Mangat Pathak. According to the complaint, the businessman was also promised a share in the sales revenue. While Sevak claimed to have transferred ₹ 15.75 crore out of a total transaction value of ₹ 16.40 crore, Panorama Studios has denied receiving the funds and alleged that the money was deposited into an unrelated account. In response, Pathak submitted evidence stating that any authorization given to Sevak was limited and had expired well before the alleged agreement. The petition to quash the FIR included legal citations and a public notice issued by Panorama Studios, warning third parties against unauthorized claims made by Sevak. (ANI)

Farmer kills self after alleged harassment by wife, in-laws for 10L
Rajkot: Just five months into his marriage, a 38-year-old farmer from Agatrai village in Junagadh district died by suicide after allegedly being harassed by his wife and her family for Rs 10 lakh. The man drank acid and succumbed during treatment a week later. The deceased, Nilesh Dafda, drank acid on July 26 and died during treatment on August 2. Based on a complaint lodged by his father, Karmar Dafda, Keshod police have registered a case against Nilesh's wife Jignasha, her father Kana Ravaliya, and sister-in-law Kajal Ravaliya under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 108 (abetment of suicide), 115(2), and 54. No arrests have been made so far. According to police, Nilesh, had married Jignasha, a resident of Pipli village, on March 2, 2025. A month after the wedding, following a domestic dispute, Jignasha left her marital home and returned to her parents' place. When Nilesh's family attempted to resolve the matter, they were allegedly asked to pay Rs10 lakh to "settle" the issue. Delhi: Over 10k cops, anti-drone systems being deployed ahead of Independence Day
New Delhi: Robust security arrangements have been put in place across the national capital ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, with more than 10,000 security personnel being deployed to maintain law and order, Delhi Police officials said on Thursday. Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh has directed special police commissioner (law and order) and deputy commissioners of police to maintain a strict vigil in their respective jurisdictions, they said. A senior police officer said multiple layers of security will be in place at the Red Fort on Independence Day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation. Apart from physical deployment, surveillance through CCTV cameras, drone detection systems, and facial recognition technology will be used to monitor the venue and surrounding areas, the officer said. Snipers and rooftop surveillance teams will be deployed to secure high-rises near the Red Fort, and movement in designated restricted zones will be strictly regulated through access control mechanisms, the officer added. Multiple security drills, night patrolling, enhanced foot patrolling, and plain-clothed surveillance teams are being mobilised to strengthen ground presence, especially in sensitive zones, said another officer. "Social media platforms are also being closely monitored by cyber units to detect and neutralise any possible online threats or misinformation campaigns that may disrupt peace," he added. Over 10,000 security personnel, including paramilitary forces and special commandos, have been assigned for duty during the week-long preparation and on the day of the celebrations, police said. Anti-sabotage checks, vehicle barricading, and verification drives are being intensified in coordination with intelligence agencies, said the officials. In his first major directive since assuming charge, Delhi Police chief Singh on Saturday issued an order banning the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, hang-gliders, UAVs, drones, hot air balloons and other remotely piloted aircraft over Delhi skies between August 2 and August 16. "These aerial platforms can be potentially misused by anti-social elements or terrorist outfits for para-jumping or launching airborne attacks, posing a serious threat to public safety, VIP security, and critical installations during the Independence Day celebrations," the order noted. Singh has instructed all district police units to conduct foot patrolling in markets, metro stations, bus terminals, and other public gathering points. Senior officers have been told to remain on the ground and review the security arrangements personally. Surprise inspections and flag marches have also been planned across various districts to instil confidence among citizens and deter miscreants, said the officials. They further said that the Delhi Police is working in close coordination with central security agencies and intelligence units to ensure that no loopholes remain in security apparatus during this critical period. Special teams have been deployed at all major railway stations, inter-state bus terminals, airports, and metro stations for round-the-clock monitoring. Passenger screenings, baggage checks, and random identity verifications have been intensified, the officials said.
