The NASCAR charter war took another dramatic turn Thursday as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled in favor of NASCAR, overturning a lower court's decision that temporarily granted 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports the right to compete as chartered teams in 2025. In short: NASCAR wins this round. The two teams that dared to sue the sport they compete in have now lost their guaranteed place in the field—again. According to the ruling, the December 18 decision by a lower court that handed each team three charters for the 2025 season—including one each purchased from the now-defunct Stewart-Haas Racing—has been vacated. That means no automatic starting spots, and no guaranteed slice of NASCAR's multi-billion-dollar media rights pie. Not unless 23XI and Front Row can convince the court to reconsider. The teams have 14 days to petition for a rehearing. Failing that, the judgment becomes final 21 days from now—on June 26, just two days before the Cup Series hits the newly rebranded EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta. A symbolic gut punch? Perhaps. But also a logistical nightmare for two multi-car operations with Daytona-sized ambitions and no guaranteed starting spots. This is only the latest twist in a legal saga that started last October when 23XI and Front Row filed a lawsuit against NASCAR, arguing that they were unfairly shut out of charter ownership despite purchasing charters from Stewart-Haas Racing. When the Dec. 18 ruling gave them the green light, it looked like they'd successfully stuck it to the establishment. But NASCAR quickly appealed that ruling, calling it 'fraught with errors, both legally and factually' in a Feb. 12 brief. When oral arguments were heard on May 9, early indications hinted that the appellate judges were skeptical of the teams' position. That skepticism has now translated into a full reversal. NASCAR's charter system, which functions like a franchise model, guarantees certain teams a spot on the starting grid and a share of media revenue. But the current system also hinges on participation in the NASCAR Charter Agreement. When 23XI and Front Row declined to sign the most recent iteration of that agreement, NASCAR took the position that they had forfeited any charter-related benefits—even for charters they claimed to own. The Dec. 18 ruling temporarily rewrote that narrative. Now, the appellate court has rewritten it again. The decision throws another wrench into 2025 plans for both teams. Without charters, their drivers must qualify on speed each week. Sponsorship deals become trickier. And any illusion of stability in the garage has been vaporized by legal fumes. As it stands, 23XI Racing, co-owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, and Front Row Motorsports, which expanded aggressively by acquiring SHR assets, now find themselves staring at the same uphill legal road they thought they'd already climbed. It's unclear whether they will file for a rehearing or take the fight all the way to the Supreme Court. What is clear: NASCAR has reclaimed the high ground—for now. And with the next round of Charter Agreements expected to shape the sport's financial future for a decade, the battle lines are only getting deeper.

MotoGP, a global phenomenon, is experiencing a 53% year-after-year growth in its American broadcast viewership. Brothers Alex and Marc Marquez have taken the world by storm, dominating MotoGP in a rare show of force from a pair of brothers competing in the same series. Marc currently leads Alex in the standings, providing a nice family touch to a growing sport. The Americas GP Sprint at Circuit of the Americas averaged 66.1K viewers on FS2, up 30% from the Argentina GP on FS1 and 86% over last season's Sprint average. The Americas GP race drew 122.9K viewers on FS1, up 24% from the Argentina GP on FS2 and 259% over last season's GP average. The growth is not surprising, as the NTT IndyCar Series' debut year on Fox is also seeing a surge in the open-wheel division's audience, as well. "We know we have a responsibility to build this sport here, because there is such a there's a very, very significant core fan base that we want to expand, but we also have to serve that existing fan base as well," MotoGP CCO Dan Rossomondo said. But the partnership with Fox is what truly has MotoGP officials and its fans excited about the sport's trajectory. The two-year deal enables some stability for the series, along with an opportunity for new fans to be introduced to it. 'We're going to get some new people trialing our sport, and I think once you trial it, you'll love it,' Rossomondo said. MotoGP is unique amongst motor sports, as its races are only 45 minutes long. It easily fits into an hour-long TV slot, and it's perfect for fans in an era when no one can sit still for several hours. Similar to Formula 1, because it is an international series, MotoGP's races often air at crazy hours in America. On the east coast, that could mean an 8 a.m. event on Sunday mornings or 5 a.m. on the west coast. 'We don't want to just rely on the 22 races that we have this year,' Rossomondo said. The growth for MotoGP should only continue, as Liberty Media will fully take over the majority control of the series. The move will only further align MotoGP with an international flare. And in America, Trackhouse Racing, owned by Justin Marks, started a MotoGP team to branch out his team. With riders Raúl Fernández and Ai Ogura, sitting 18th and 12th in the standings, respectively, America's presence in the sport is growing. 'To me, the biggest thing that Justin brings is just a fresh eye on the sport,' Rossomondo said of Marks, who owns a Nascar team. 'It takes a long time to get acclimated inside of our paddock, and he's got a lot of things going on. But he really just brings a new perspective, and it's a fresh perspective and he's always asking the right questions.' In addition to the Fox deal, MotoGP struck another deal with a major American firm. Harley-Davidson formed a new Harley-Davidson championship series that will launch next year. The 12-race series will compete during six Grand Prix, with six to eight teams. 'We want to get more eyeballs on us in the United States, and that was the kind of combination we made,' Rossomondo said of the partnership. We're going to build out a garage for them that's going to be a unique area inside our fan zone. We're going to build out different and it's going to look different than our paddock." MotoGP will compete this weekend with the GoPro Grand Prix of Aragon.

She graduated in style in the Listed Ginger Brew in January at Gulfstream Park and added the Grade 3 Florida Oaks in March at Tampa Bay Downs, the Grade 2 Appalachian in April at Keeneland and the Grade 2 Edgewood on May 2 at Churchill Downs. She's big and tall. She's never been much of a workhorse so if you watched her work, you would think she was just average, but when she runs, she explodes when Jose asks her the question,' Casse said. Casse noted that Ortiz believes Nitrogen, who will exit post 6 carrying a co-field high 123 pounds, has won with plenty in the tank. 'It would appear that way. Into the final turn, Carmouche tipped Laurelin to the outside of Opulent Restraint as a retreating Burner Account drifted in and caused Italian Soiree to steady and bump with the favored Virgin Colada, who had her rally from last stymied. Opulent Restraint dug in along the rail inside the eighth pole, but Laurelin would not be denied the narrow score in a final time of 1:38.68. 'You can't fault her record, that's for sure. She's done nothing wrong and impressed me every time she's run—particularly last time,' Motion said. 'We have liked her a lot since the day she came to us and she has always been professional. 'She was kind of a little further behind than I thought she would be, but she sure kicked on Keeneland's turf. Hopefully, she takes to the Saratoga turf,' Brown said. The Pinatubo chestnut made her first two starts in France for trainer Hedi Ghabri, including a maiden win at second asking in September traveling nine furlongs at Chantilly. The $270,611 purchase from the Arqana Saint-Cloud sale is out of the Fastnet Rock mare Predawn, a full-sister to Group 1-winner Qualify and Group 2-placed Shogun.
