British holidaymaker arrested in Florida resort after 'trying to drown daughter-in-law in swimming pool'
Mark Gibbon, 62, was with his family at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, Florida when he reportedly got into an argument over the "stipulations of his will".
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Gibbon attempted to push the relative, 33, under the swimming pool at their place near Disney World.
His granddaughter, nine, reportedly jumped into the pool to try and save her mother but he pushed her away.
He is said to have stopped the alleged attempted drowning when two neighbouring sisters said they had called 911.
Gibbon, of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, was taken into custody on August 3 just after 5.15pm.
He allegedly admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law under the water but denied trying to drown her.
'She advised that she could not breathe and believed that she was going to drown,' deputies wrote.
'(The victim) advised that she had to fight Mark in order to get away from him and from under the water but he kept pushing her back under.'
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said: 'It's great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same.
'Because Mr Gibbon couldn't control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.'
He has now been charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. He is due in court on September 9.
Gibbon is a lighting technician who runs his own company, MRG Lighting, and has worked on music videos for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Paloma Faith.

He can't find a job as a counselor, so he has to work for ICE rounding up undocumented immigrants because they're the only ones hiring: 'We don't ask for experience!… We don't care if you've read a book!' Vance is reduced to playing the pint-sized Tattoo. Trump wants to promote Mackey to head of homeland security, he says. But what about Noem? 'Her face freaks me out,' Trump admits. Mackey gets cold feet, though, when Trump pulls him into a bedroom with Satan — yikes — and as he tries to escape, Mackey finds that Mar-a-Lago is just a house of horrors. Even fellow guest Clyde is disillusioned: 'Just wanted to make my nut, sir. Didn't really want all this.' Mackey understands, telling the kid: 'If you're doing something you don't really believe in just to make your nut, you're gonna find that you just get sadder, and your nut just gets bigger.' They decide to leave together, with the help of Superman's flying dog Krypto… well, until Noem takes out poor Krypto with a sniper rifle. Vancouver police renew call for information into 2023 stabbing death on Granville Street
Vancouver police are asking for public help as they continue to look into the stabbing death of a Surrey, B.C., man two years ago. Jose Kaze, 32, was stabbed on Granville Street between Smithe and Nelson streets just before 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2023. Just over two years later, police say they believe there are witnesses to the crime who have yet to come forward. "We ... know that the Granville Mall continues to be busy at around 3 a.m., especially on weekends," Const. Jason Doucette said Wednesday. "We are confident that people around the area would have seen something." Doucette said Kaze was killed near the Roxy Cabaret, and witnesses who have already spoken with police reported there were other people around at the time. "Two years has gone by. This is somebody's son. This is somebody's partner," he said. "We need you to do the right thing and come forward and share the information," he added. "A little piece of information could put this investigation into full gear, and we can hold the person accountable who did this." Doucette said police have been in touch with Kaze's family over the last two years, and victim support services are available for anyone who was "living with something that [they] saw for the last couple of years." He's asking anyone with more information, including anyone driving by that day in August 2023, to come forward to police. "There would have been an altercation. You would have seen lots of emergency vehicles. Any little bit of information could help us break this case," Doucette said.
