BMW Motorrad seems to be progressing steadily with the development of the highly anticipated F 450 GS. A test mule of the BMW F 450 GS adventure bike was recently seen in Karnataka. Although the test bike was heavily camouflaged, some design elements were confirmed, pointing to the production model creeping closer to reality.
With this sighting, it's clear that BMW is gearing to add a mid-capacity ADV to its India line-up, targeting riders who desire something superior to the G 310 GS but not as big or intimidating as the BMW F 900 GS. The launch of the 450 GS is expected to be sometime in Q3 2025, with deliveries possibly starting prior to the festive season. BMW F 450 GS: Expected design
The test bike has a similar silhouette to the F 450 GS concept motorcycle, and even under camouflage, some of its features are obvious. Specifically, twin exhaust pipes from the engine head are reminiscent of the layout in the previous concept, building up the identity of the bike. However, the exhaust muffler is positioned lower than on the concept, likely to accommodate additional testing equipment. Saddle bags and a top box—probably used for data logging—were also visible on the test mule.

BMW had previously stated its intention to stay true to the concept's design, and from what's visible, they seem to be delivering on that promise. A notable change, however, is the switch from wire-spoke wheels to alloy rims, suggesting a road-oriented variant could be on offer. The bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, paired with dual-purpose tyres. BMW F 450 GS: Expected features
Despite the lack of action shots, the riding posture appears upright and comfortable, indicating the bike's adventure touring intentions. Both rider and pillion ergonomics seem well thought-out. The motorcycle is also expected to feature a large full-colour digital display, placed behind a windscreen, offering key information at a glance. BMW is likely to equip the F 450 GS with long-travel suspension—with some level of adjustability—for tackling mixed terrain. The adventure bike is further expected to feature disc brakes at both ends. BMW F 450 GS: Expected specs
The F 450 GS will introduce a brand new parallel-twin engine from BMW, specifically created for this motorcycle. The engine is likely to deliver approximately 48 bhp, making it perfect for inner-city rides and long-distance trips. It will also have a special ignition offset, which will probably make it a high-revving, responsive machine.

TVS Gearing Up To Roll Out New 450cc Bike In India: Report
TVS is reportedly working on a new 450cc bike for the Indian market. While exact details are awaited, reports suggest that the Indian two-wheeler maker is planning to launch the bike soon. The new 450cc power unit was showcased for the first time at EICMA 2024 and is based on the brand's 450-twin platform. BMW F 450 GS Reports also suggest that the 450cc engine is a projected joint work by BMW Motorrad and TVS, as part of their collaboration. Previously, the BMW F 450 GS has been snapped testing on Indian roads recently and is going to be the first motorcycle to feature this new 450cc power unit. It is expected that TVS will follow the Apache nomenclature for its 450cc bike, probably the TVS Apache RR 450, as with the Apache RR 310. However, the exact name of the upcoming bike can not be claimed yet. Though it will have similar components as the 310cc unit, the 450cc supersport bike will be slotted above the Apache 310 RR. Also, the 310cc engine, seen on the TVS Apache RR 310, has been jointly developed by the Indian brand and BMW Motorrad. Also Read: Yamaha Celebrates 10th Anniversary Of Its Chennai Facility, Rolls Out 5 Millionth Unit Reports suggest that the new 450 platform will get a 450cc liquid-cooled power unit that will deliver a peak power and torque output of 48 hp and 45 Nm. Though the upcoming TVS will equip this same unit, there are a few design and tuning changes expected to suit its supersport dynamics. Also, Norton is going to borrow the same engine as its power unit, likely with a different tuning. Other reports also suggest that TVS is also working to diversify its two-wheeler segment with the launch of a new electric scooter for the Indian market, the details of which are still under wraps.

All-electric BMW M3 spotted testing on public roads, to feature quad-motor setup
The upcoming BMW M3 EV is closer to being production-ready with flared wheel arches that bring a wide, mean look. (SH Proshots) Notify me The first-ever all-electric BMW M3 has been spotted testing on public roads, and it is closer to being production-ready. The German automaker is working on its upcoming range of Neue Klasse 3-series models, with the sportier M3 sibling to feature both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE)- powered variants. The electric model will likely be dubbed the iM3 and will carry over much of its design from the 2023 Vision Neue Klasse concept car. The new electric M3, internally codenamed 'ZA0,' is expected to be launched in 2027 as a MY28 model. It bears a long, flat front-end and a low beltline, alongside LED headlamps that blend seamlessly with a closed-off, wide kidney grille. The sedan comes riding on 20-inch wheels covered by prominent wheel arches. Earlier test mules that were spotted had their fenders camouflaged in a bold M-colour pattern. The change is subtle, but the chunky fenders will increase the width by over 70 mm when compared to the current-gen 330i. When combined with the lowered suspension, it gives the M3 electric a wider and aggressive look. A look into the test mule's cabin reveals the dashboard that features a wide, central touchscreen display, but the driver notably misses out on a gauge cluster. This is owed to the fact that the production versions of the Neue Klasse 3-series will employ the Panoramic iDrive system that BMW showcased earlier this year at CES 2025. This incorporates a centrally mounted tablet as well as a pillar-to-pillar heads-up display for instrumentation, navigation, and media controls. BMW M3 Electric: Battery and specifications BMW has been developing all-new electric powertrains for its next-generation EVs, aiming to improve overall efficiency by 20 per cent. The automaker has stated that it will mount up to four electric motors on its upcoming EVs, with the M models likely to embrace quad-motor setups. While specifics on power figures remain unclear, BMW is confident its Neue Klasse platform can push out one megawatt (1,341 bhp). The Vision Driving Experience (VDX) concept car that was unveiled earlier this year employed a quad-motor setup and is said to deliver over 1,300 bhp. The M3 EV is expected to follow suit with one electric motor for each wheel, delivering a combined output of over 700 bhp with the base model. While power may go higher with subsequent trims, figures reaching four digits do not make too much sense for what is essentially a D-segment sedan. The next-gen ICE-powered M3 will be sold alongside its all-electric sibling with minimal design changes. It will be equipped with a new mild-hybrid inline six-cylinder engine, likely paired with a 48V system. Check out Upcoming EV Cars in India. First Published Date: 05 Jun 2025, 12:34 PM IST

Suzuki halts Swift production in Japan as China curbs rare earth exports
Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor has suspended production of most of its Swift compact car models at its domestic plants due to a shortage of parts linked to China's rare earth export restrictions, business daily Nikkei Asia reported on Thursday. This marks the first direct hit to a Japanese automaker from Beijing's curbs, and analysts warn that wider disruptions could follow. The halt, which excludes the Swift Sport model, began on May 26 and is set to continue until June 6. While Suzuki did not officially cite the reason, the latest report suggests the move is linked to delays in parts procurement caused by slow Chinese export licence approvals. China, which accounted for around 70 per cent of the world's rare earth metal production in 2023 and about 90 per cent of rare earth magnet manufacturing, has slowed the issuance of export licences since imposing new controls in April. These measures came in response to US President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs on Chinese goods. The disruption has shed light on the vulnerability of global car production to China's dominance in rare earth elements, which are essential for electric and hybrid vehicle motors, among other high-tech uses. Ford, BMW, Mercedes also face rare earth-linked delays The issue is not isolated to Japan. Ford temporarily shut down its Chicago assembly line for the Explorer SUV in late May, and European parts suppliers are also beginning to shut operations, according to CLEPA, the European Association of Automotive Suppliers. Mercedes-Benz is in 'constant dialogue' with suppliers and is considering stockpiling key components, said Jörg Burzer, head of production. 'Physical buffers play a role,' he added, speaking from a factory in Rastatt, Germany. Meanwhile, BMW has acknowledged that some of its supply chains are already being affected. The company is actively monitoring risks and coordinating with vendors to prevent major fallout. Though automakers like Mercedes and BMW don't source rare earth metals directly, their Tier-1 suppliers use them in electric motors and hybrid systems, exposing them to the broader supply shock. India to send auto industry delegation to China Industry experts in India have warned authorities of the sharply declining availability of rare earth magnets. They cautioned that unless imports from China resume swiftly, production at several electric and ICE vehicle factories could come to a halt. India is set to send a high-level industry delegation to China next week, including representatives from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (Acma). The delegation will hold talks with Chinese officials to fast-track approvals for rare earth mineral shipments, which are critical to the country's automotive industry. What rare earth minerals do in EVs and traditional cars Rare earth minerals play a vital role in modern cars, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs), where they are used to make compact, high-performance permanent magnets for electric motors. These magnets, made with elements like neodymium, dysprosium, and terbium, enable motors that are smaller, lighter, and more efficient than alternatives, crucial for improving EV range and performance. Rare earths are also found in ICE components like catalytic converters and in various systems across both EVs and traditional cars, from sensors to display screens. Japan to propose US cooperation on rare earth supply chains Amid growing concern, Japan is preparing to propose enhanced cooperation with the US on rare earth supply chains, especially in light of China's export curbs. The proposal is expected to be tabled in upcoming tariff negotiations.
