Howe on Isak, mood in the camp and summer
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Everton at St James' Park (kick-off 16:00 BST).Here are the key lines from his news conference:Eddie Howe said the next couple of days will be "crucial" to Alexander Isak's availability against Everton: "He's doing OK. He hasn't trained with us yet but he's made good progress through the week. There's a chance."He added that Joelinton won't be back for Sunday but envisages he will be back for pre-season with no problems.On Kieran Tripper, Howe said: "He hasn't trained with us yet. I think they're looking forward to the challenge we face on Sunday."He said the most "surreal" moment for him this season was the cup final experience and scenes that followed but "hopes there's another one to come and that potentially could be Sunday because we shouldn't underestimate the size of the achievement".The Newcastle boss was asked whether he'll be keeping an eye on results elsewhere on Sunday: "I don't think we can look for any favours from anybody. We have to do our bit and that's purely going to be the only thing in our minds. There will be no talk of other results or other teams. What will be, will be in that respect. Afterwards we'll see and reflect, but we know what we have to do."On the summer: "My mindset is always the same when you come to this time of the year. You want to act quickly because usually the best available options will move quite quickly. If you're too late to react, you can miss out on potential transfers that really could make the difference. Ex-Man Utd star to reunite with Greenwood after missing out on dream return
Former Manchester United star Angel Gomes will link up with Mason Greenwood after sealing a shock transfer to Marseille. The England midfielder was out of contract this summer. He had been linked with a return to Old Trafford, while Premier League rivals Tottenham and West Ham were also credited with an interest. Despite that, Gomes has chosen to move elsewhere. According to RMC Sport, he is set to move to the French giants, who have offered the midfielder a three-year deal at the Stade Velodrome. Gomes has agreed to the move having been convinced by Roberto De Zerbi's style of play, while the chance to play in the Champions League proved difficult to turn down. Gomes will link up with former United teammate and fellow academy graduate Greenwood with his new employers. The striker moved to France permanently last summer and went on to score 22 goals across his debut campaign. Greenwood has been linked with a move of his own amid reported interest from Barcelona but has expressed his desire to remain with Marseille. Speaking earlier this year, he said: "I hope to be here next year for the Champions League. 'All the other players tell me that the stadium is something special. I think it's been a very positive season, we've reached our objective." Gomes, 24, has been with Lille since leaving Old Trafford in 2021. The four-time England international has gone on to make 134 appearances for the club, scoring on ten occasions. Speaking previously, he admitted that he would potentially be open to a return to United. As quoted by L'Equipe, he said: 'It was a very difficult decision. In my heart, I wanted to leave, in my head, I was thinking of staying. But I had to follow my heart. I felt that I needed to take another step in my career. "I felt that had I stayed, there wouldn't be a lot of opportunities for me. Luis Campos [Lille's then sporting director] and Lille spoke about their project and I believed in it even more, that's what convinced me to move - the faith Lille had in me. "Do I imagine myself coming back one day? Obviously, it's home. I would love to come back. But you never know in football. I just have to keep my feet on the ground, and keep playing, making the most of it. I can't predict what will happen in the future." Manchester United have been urged to consider a move for one of Arsenal's transfer targets to provide Ruben Amorim with more attacking firepower.
