Texans' Jimmie Ward arrested for violated bond condition related to previous arrest on assault charges

New York Post2 days ago
Texans safety Jimmie Ward was behind bars on Thursday night in Montgomery County, Texas after he violated a condition of his bond related to an arrest in June on assault charges.
Ward's attorney, Steve Jackson, told The Post there were no new allegations or a new arrest of his client; rather, he had tested positive for consuming alcohol, which is a violation of his bond conditions.
'Jimmie did not realize this was a zero tolerance for alcohol and he tested positive for consuming alcohol,' Jackson said in an email. 'As a result, there is an overnight sanction in jail for this. He will be out tomorrow morning.'

Ward appeared on the Montgomery County Jail website on Thursday night as having been arrested on a warrant relating to a felony offense.
The online record also indicated that no bail had been listed and that he would be released by court order on Friday.

The veteran safety originally was arrested on June 12 at his house in Magnolia, Texas, after Ward's fiancée alleged that the football player had assaulted, strangled and threatened her.
The victim filed for and was granted an emergency protective order.
Ward is facing a third-degree charge of alleged strangulation and has been assigned a court date on Aug. 13.

In his comments to The Post, Jackson said that they 'will be presenting a grand jury packet in hopes of getting this case dismissed on August 31.'
Ward has been free on $30,000 bail.
Ward had been placed on the Texans' physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp because of offseason foot surgery he underwent.

The NFL is investigating the incident and Texans general manager Nick Caserio told reporters on the first day of camp that they would cooperate with the league inquiry.
'Kind of let the legal process take care of itself. We have been in contact with the league. We will work with the league. We will be compliant on our end, do the best we can,' he said.
'So, I think it's day-to-day, but kind of let that process kind of take care of itself. Whatever the outcome is we'll handle it accordingly.'

Families of slain NYPD cops plead to keep killers locked up

The families of two NYPD cops killed in the line of duty are pleading with the state's lefty parole board to keep the men who murdered their loved ones behind bars, The Post has learned. George Agosto who fatally shot Officer Thomas Ruotolo in the Bronx in 1984, and Eddie Matos who shoved Officer Anthony Dwyer to his death off a roof in Times Square roof in 1989, could be sprung from prison next month. The 16-member parole board — ripped by critics as a patronage mill of leftist ideologues and political has-beens — has released 43 cop killers since 2017 after they began giving less weight to the severity of a convict's crimes and more to their age and progress in prison. 7 The families of slain NYPD officers Thomas Ruotolo and Antony Dwyer speak out at the state parole board in Midtown, Manhattan. Helayne Seidman 7 NYPD officer Thomas Ruotolo was killed by a parolee while investigating a moped theft in the Bronx in 1984. NYPD Agosto, 65, who was out on parole for manslaughter when he killed Ruotolo, is serving 40 years to life at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, NY. 'Personally, I think it's really important to emphasize that the sentence was 40 years to life,' Ruotolo's widow Mary Beth O'Neill told The Post. 'I really believe the 'to life' part matters because some crimes are too severe. They're too violent. They're too intentional to ever risk repeating.' Ruotolo was responding to a call about a stolen moped in the Bronx that Valentine's Day when Agosto pulled out a revolver and shot him before the cop even said a word. 7 Ruotolo was fatally shot before saying a word while approaching the parolee at a Bronx gas station. New York Post 7 Marge Dwyer said she'd like to see the convict who killed her son put to death. Stephen Yang The parolee, who already had a murder conviction on his rap sheet, then shot Ruotolo's partner and an off-duty officer who happened to be on the scene. 'In his own words, he described himself as a 'non-violent guy,'' the widow said, quoting from what he told the board in his rejected 2023 appeal. 'But how can a man who killed two people and attempted to kill two others be called anything but violent?' She was also 'chilled to see' that he referred to the murder of her husband as 'a mistake' — wondering what part was the mistake, carrying the gun, using it to steal a moped or shooting her husband. 7 Mary Beth O'Neill (r) believes the man who shot and killed her first husband, Thomas Ruotolo, should remain in prison. Helayne Seidman 'None of those sound like mistakes to me,' she said. 'They sound like choices, criminal, deliberate, irredeemable choices.' Matos, 57, is serving a 25-years-to-life at Green Haven Prison in Stormville for killing Dwyer. The officer was responding to an armed robbery at a McDonald's when he chased Matos to the roof and was pushed, cops have said. 'They killed a cop,' Dwyer's mom, Marge, said. 'They should serve the rest of their lives in prison or get the death penalty. We don't have it anymore but if we did I'd be down there to turn the switch myself.' 7 Anthony Dwyer had chased Matos to a roof when he was apparently pushed and fell off the building. Stephen Yang 7 Matos, 57, is serving a 25-years-to-life at Green Haven Prison but is up for parole. Both killers are scheduled to go to the parole board in September. The dates of their hearings aren't released to the public. PBA President Patrick Hendry went to the board's Midtown office with the families to deliver their victim impact statements Friday. 'Every time they come here, they are forced to reopen their wounds and relive the worst day of their lives,' Hendry said. 'Every time they leave here, they're forced to wait and wonder whether their loved one's killer will be released.'

WATCH: Texans arrive at U.S. Bank Stadium for preseason Game 1

The Houston Texans are ready for action on Saturday afternoon, hoping to set the tone against the Minnesota Vikings at U.S Bank Stadium. Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud and new wide receiver Christian Kirk were seen arriving at the stadium ahead of kickoff. Here's a shot of the new duo getting ready to begin practice, though neither player is expected to start on Saturday. The Texans and Vikings should both take a cautious approach when it comes to their starters, though Minnesota does plan on seeing first-team reps for J.J. McCarthy after watching the first-round pick miss his entire rookie season. That doesn't mean he'll play the entire game, but he'll need to feel comfortable inside the pocket is he plans on making the ideal jump toward frontline starter status. As for Houston? Coach DeMeco Ryans mentioned that the younger starters would see action. That means that offensive lineman Tay Ersery, the projected starting right tackle, wide receiver Jaylin Noel, who's fighting for first-team reps in the slot, and Jayden Higgins, the newest name on the outside, are expected to see action. "Everybody's kind of on their own plan," Ryans said. "We'll have a handful of guys who won't see time at all. Then we'll have a certain group of guys who are limited. So, it's just a lot of different guys in different categories there." As for Kirk and Stroud, they're expected to see a majority of their "gotta have reps" during next week's preseason joint practice against the Carolina Panthers at the Methodist Training Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Texans vs. Vikings live updates: NFL preseason game score, highlight

The Houston Texans look to set the tone early in the new season behind DeMeco Ryans with a win over the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. While starters are expected to rest, that doesn't include the rookies like offensive tackle Tay Ersery, wide receiver Jayden Higgins and defensive back Jaylin Smith. For the Vikings, the 15-2 standouts in the NFC North from a season ago won't play names like Jonathan Greenard or Justin Jefferson, but J.J. McCarthy is expected to see reps against the Texans' second-team front seven. The former top 10 pick of 2024 missed all of his rookie season with a lower-leg injury and needs to reps to get caught up to speed. Texans Wire will be here all day, providing live, up-to-date moments throughout the game as Houston prepares to break in its newest crop of rising stars. It's been announced that J.J. McCarthy will start for the Vikings and will likely play the entire first half of the game. For the Texans, only partial starters will see action, so fans should expect to see C.J. Stroud, Nick Chubb, Danielle Hunter, Nico Collins or others on the field in Minneapolis. In addition to airing live on NFL Network, as well as the aforementioned channels, the Texans-Vikings game will also re-air on NFL Network on Sunday at 10 p.m. CT. NFL Network will re-run the game one final time on Friday, Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. CT. Additionally, out-of-market fans can stream the game live on NFL+. Texans vs. Vikings start time Kickoff for the Texans' preseason opener against the Vikings is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, as the two sides gather at U.S. Bank Stadium for the showdown between former Kyle Shanahan assistants. Do not expect many of the Texans' starters to get reps in this one since DeMeco Ryans usually prefers to have his starters see reps in the joint practices that begin on Thursday against the Carolina Panthers back in Houston. Streaming options for the game include the NFL Network and Fubo, which offers a free trial. Texans tickets Looking to buy Houston Texans tickets? We've got you covered.
