Amandaland Season 2: BBC Finally Gives Update On Comedy's Future

Yahoo06-03-2025

Ever since the Motherland spin-off Amandaland premiered on the BBC last month, fans have been speculating about whether a second season is on the cards.
Until now, the team behind the acclaimed comedy had been tight-lipped about whether there'd be more fun from Amanda and her clan in the pipeline, but we finally have an answer.
And we're happy to report that it's good news.
On Thursday morning, the BBC confirmed Amandaland would be getting a new season, after what it described as a 'standout debut', averaging around 6.4 million viewers to date.
Executive producer Sharon Horgan enthused: 'With any new show you put out there, your main hope is to make something you love and are proud of. The extra bonus is that it's a critical hit. But to have a loyal audience of this size is just beyond your hopes and expectations.
'The incredible cast and writers, director and production team worked so hard on this show and it's so wonderful to see that hard work pay off.'
Sharon also singled out Amandaland lead Lucy Punch 'for being the most extraordinary front woman' and praised the BBC 'for having such faith in the idea of Amandaland from the off'.
Creator Holly Walsh added: 'We've been bowled over by the response to Amandaland and can't wait to get collabing on the next series.'
It was previously teased that a Christmas special of Amandaland could be on the cards for later in 2025, for those who can't quite wait for more action from Amanda and co., though this is yet to be confirmed.
As well as Lucy Punch, Amandaland features a host of returning faces from Motherland, including Philippa Dunne as Anne and Joanne Lumley as Amanda's mother, Felicity.
The spin-off also introduced a host of new characters, played by new additions Siobhan McSweeney, Rochenda Sandall and Samuel Anderson.

V said that the obligatory army commitment gave him "time for me to reset both physically and mentally." "I really want to run to ARMY as soon as I can. Thank you for waiting for us during our military service," the singer added. V also asked fans to "wait just a little longer" for the rest of the band members to be discharged for a proper BTS reunion, the BBC reported. In South Korea, it is mandated that all able-bodied men aged 18-28 must serve between 18 and 21 months in the military. Other BTS members J-Hope and Jin wrapped up their military commitment in 2024. Jimin, Suga, and Jung Kook are still completing their mandatory military service but are expected to be released later this month, per the Associated Press. 'The latest Race Across the World episode had one big problem'

Race Across the World series five has been an exciting ride so far but Wednesday's penultimate episode seemed to veer off track. Don't get me wrong, I loved the twist. Seeing last week's race leaders, Brian and Melvyn, open the checkpoint hotel book first — only to discover they were in fourth place. And a massive 17 hours behind. My heart sunk for them. Disappointed Brian sums it up perfectly in one word: "B*******." How this blow was delivered worked well on-screen... Only this is where I say the dreaded word "but". The latest episode was missing glimpses of the teams' journeys to the checkpoint. It is a race. I want to feel like I'm a passenger on the journey. That's one of the best things about race: vicariously travelling and feeling like you are part of the experience. I don't personally agree with some complaints online from viewers that the focus of the show has shifted to showing too much of "sob stories" instead of the journey. It's important to get to know the individuals taking part on the show and tell their extraordinary ordinary stories. That helps you choose who you are rooting for. But I did feel there wasn't enough racing which is particularly noticeable in this episode. (Note: this is my only grumbling complaint for the whole series.) There were too many jumps. We see Brian and Melvyn face a disaster while trying to leave the fancy vineyards in India. They are told on the phone: "Our office is closed today. But you can wait at the hotel, I'll send my representative in 45 minutes maximum". Then it cuts to them mysteriously arriving at Panjim. It was only upon revisiting the episode, I found the BBC snuck the answer into John Hannah's voiceover where they are trying to make up for the missing gaps. "After an 11-hour bus, Brian and Melvyn have arrived in Panjim," he quickly informs us before the brothers get into race mode to the checkpoint. Were there really no moments from the 11-hour bus journey really worth showing? And why did Brian and Melvyn choose to get the bus in the first place? This feels massive to miss out, especially as the previous race leaders are unlikely to win the show now. From behind the scenes, Brian on Instagram gives us more information: "That was a bit unfortunate. Started first, ended up last, 17 hours behind everybody. Maybe it was the vineyard. I don't know. It could have been maybe. We didn't catch a train, that might have been our mistake. But one more leg to go." Check out the telling photos from Race Across the World's final... Race Across the World's Fin and Sioned are seen prioritising travel on the final leg of the race. (BBC/Studio Lambert) Melvyn adds in a separate video on Instagram: "Unfortunate that one wasn't it? Was it the vineyard that took us out the way? I've just seen Brian's video and I kind of agree. I'm still trying to figure out how we ended up so far behind. The vineyard was a pleasant treat. The countryside was absolutely beautiful." It's not only Brian and Melvyn's journeys that are cut short. They all are. With Sioned and Fin, we know that a kind Indian stranger calls a taxi for them and it's going to cost them INR 6,000 (£51), including tolls. "He'll be waiting for us? Wow that's good. What a lovely guy," Fin says. Only we never see the teenage couple get into the taxi. And we don't see them navigate their way to checkpoint. We only see the disappointment they feel at coming third place at the checkpoint hotel. When it comes to Elizabeth and Letitia, the last time we see them before the checkpoint they are just northeast of Mumbai. "We are getting to checkpoint today," they jointly celebrate while getting onto the train. The voiceover tells us they are taking "advantage of the Indian rail network" but the rest of their journey remains a mystery. Six minutes later the sisters are back on screen magically opening the page of the book to find out they are in second place. We do know that current race leaders Caroline and Tom managed to miraculously get their seats confirmed for the train out of Mumbai. This is a surprise as Sioned and Fin had been warned by a local not to go via Mumbai to Goa because the train tickets are often booked up months in advance. But it is also a hint that Caroline and Tom are going to be accelerated into first place in the race. We do get to see moments of them running up the stairs in the glossy checkpoint hotel but the rest of their journey is glossed over. Maybe the answer is longer episodes or perhaps more episodes in the series to fit everything in. I hope the edit of the final captures everything we need to know about the last leg of the journey so we aren't left feeling cheated at the outcome. We all have our favourites watching at home but it's not really about who wins on Race Across the World. It's about the journey. Race Across the World's final airs at 9pm on Wednesday on BBC One.

Who Is Aimee Lou Wood's Boyfriend Adam Long?

Aimee Lou Wood finally put to bed all the endless rumors about her and Walton Goggins being in a feud, and now the internet gets to obsess over something else: what looks to be a new relationship between her and Adam Long. While Aimee is pretty private about her personal life (she dated her Sex Education costar Connor Swindells for years and was completely low-key about it), she and Adam were spotted kissing in London. The Daily Mail has pics if you're looking for proof, and honestly they're super sweet. And I mean, sure, these two could still be super casual. Or this could be step #1 of them going on to have a serious relationship. Either way, clearly the time has come to get to know Adam—unless you're a Happy Valley fan like me, in which case you are more than acquainted, ahem. Aimee and Adam are starring in the BBC's upcoming Film Club together, where they play a couple. Per BBC's synopsis: Adam is probably best known as playing convict Lewis Whippey in the acclaimed British detective series, Happy Valley. The 34-year-old has also starred in Spike Island, Bancroft, Dunkirk, The Thirteenth Tale, Vera (another British mystery show), The Kill Team, Masters of the Air, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, and Day of the Jackal. Kay, mostly just sharing this as an excuse to note that Aimee commented an enthusiastic "YOU DID IT!" on this photo: Yes, Adam has Instagram, but it's mostly low key and doesn't give much away about his personal life: Meanwhile, his interviews are few and far between. But if you want to get a sense of his personality / vibe / cute accent, there's this old interview from Tribeca Film Festival circa 2019. According to IMDb, aside from Film Club, Adam is starring in a movie called The Trial about three brothers who "face a ruthless gangland trial after their heist goes disastrously wrong." Looking forward to seeing him in it! But mostly to analyzing his vibes with Aimee Lou Wood in Film Club.
