Firefighters remain at scene of moorland blaze near Ripponden

Firefighters remain at the scene of a large moorland blaze in West Yorkshire and have advised people to avoid the area.The blaze broke out near Oldham Road in Ripponden at about 12:15 BST on Thursday, with smoke billowing across the M62.West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) said at its height the fire stretched for 1.2 miles (2km) with 18 crews in attendance.A spokesperson said seven crews and supporting units remained in the area after monitoring and tackling the fire overnight.
The cause of the blaze is not known but it comes after a series of moorland fires in West Yorkshire in recent weeks and follows a long spell of dry weather.The fire prompted the closure of the A672 Oldham Road, heading towards Rishworth, and it remains shut.

Firefighters tackle blaze involving three houses The fire broke out in Summerbrdge Crescent, in Bradford Firefighters have been tackling a blaze involving three properties in the Eccleshill area of Bradford. Seven crews were deployed to Summerbridge Crescent after the fire broke out at about 14:15 BST. People living nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors shut and a number of road closures were put in place. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) said the fire was extinguished by about 16:45 but that crews would remain on scene "damping down".
