HYDERABAD: In a dramatic rescue on Friday evening, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) pulled a 23-year-old man back from the brink, both literally and figuratively.
The youth, devastated by a recent heartbreak, was moments away from ending his life on the tracks between Secunderabad and Lalaguda railway stations when patrolling officers intervened.
The man, identified as Raviri Jayavardhan Reddy, a BTech student, was spotted lying on the tracks during routine evening patrols by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) J Kamalakar Rao and HC P Dhanunjay. Trusting instinct and training, the officers rushed to his aid and prevented a tragedy from unfolding.
In emotional distress
Speaking to TNIE, an RPF official confirmed that the young man admitted he had been overwhelmed by emotional distress following a failed relationship.

RPF finds narcotics substances worth ₹2.16 lakh on train
The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Mysuru Division, has recovered narcotic substances worth ₹2.16 lakh onboard Train No. 18111 TATA-YPR Express train between Birur and Kadur railway stations in Chikkamagaluru district on Saturday. A statement here on Sunday said an RPF team carried out a surprise inspection as part of a special drive under the Operation NARCOS. During the inspection, the team discovered an unclaimed bag in the GS coach No. SWR 247321. Upon checking the bag on suspicion, the team found narcotic substances that included 25 grams of MDMA (a synthetic drug) valued at approximately ₹1,25,000, 1.522 kg of ganja worth ₹90,000, and 37 bhang chocolates (weighing around 210 grams) valued at ₹1,850. The total estimated value of the recovered contraband is ₹2,16,850. The team secured the bag at Kadur station around 1.55 p.m., and the seized materials were handed over to the Excise Department, the statement said. The team comprised assistant sub-inspectors Ananda B. and C. Venkatesha, head constable Shivananda T., under the supervision of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Mysuru, Sam Prashanth J.R. The RPF is committed to ensuring passenger safety and maintainence of vigilance against illegal activities such as narcotics trafficking on trains and railway premises, a statement said.

A 28-year-old man, Vurugonda Sai, who was on his way to Goa with his wife for their honeymoon, lost his life while trying to board the moving Vasco-Da-Gama Express. Sai, a worker at a gift article manufacturing unit in Warangal, had been married just weeks earlier to Battula Madhuri (23), a nurse. The couple, accompanied by Sai's brother-in-law Vishnu Vardhan and four friends, had planned a celebratory trip to Goa. The group arrived at platform No. 9 around 9.30 am, with reservations in coach S4. According to Secunderabad Railway Police, Sai was seen boarding and deboarding the train multiple times before the incident. Around 10.30 am, he stepped off to buy a bottle of water. As the train began to pull away, his friends, noticing he hadn't returned, pulled the emergency chain to halt it. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel responded and began questioning one of Sai's friends near the S4 coach. "In the middle of this, Sai attempted to reboard the moving train. Despite the medical team's efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at 12.30 pm. In a cruel twist, Sai's wife and friends—unaware of the tragedy—continued their journey until Kacheguda station. Only upon receiving a call from police did they learn the devastating news and disembarked. Based on a complaint by Madhuri, a case has been registered under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Sai's body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Saturday.
