Mobile tower installed in Chhattisgarh village where Naxals killed 8 security men in Jan

Time of India18-06-2025
Raipur: A mobile tower has been installed at a remote village in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, where Naxals blew up a vehicle using an IED killing eight security men and their civilian driver in January, police said, allowing residents to access Internet and other telecom services.
A police official posted in the Bastar region said on Wednesday the new mobile tower at Ambeli village started functioning on Monday (June 16).
Residents of Ambeli and nearby villages Uskapatnam, Karkeli and Tungeli will now have access to faster mobile connectivity and Internet services, he said.
The facility of mobile tower has been provided under the 'Niyad Nellanar' (your good village) initiative of the state government, aimed at facilitating development works in remote villages, and the Centre-sponsored
Universal Service Obligation Fund
(USOF) scheme, the official informed.
"Now, it has become possible for villagers to get benefits of mobile network. Besides, students studying in rural areas and the youth preparing for competitive exams will get the benefit of strong network and Internet facility," he said.
Keeping in view the growing need of mobile and Internet services in day-to-day life, cellphone towers are being installed to strengthen telecom communication system in the Bastar region, where security forces are engaged in all-out operations against Maoists, the official maintained.
The vast region consists of seven districts, including Bijapur.
"It is a crucial important step, which will provide better communication facilities to people and they will be able to connect with others in rest of the country and abroad. Besides, it will play an important role in development of the area," the official added.
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Naxalites are being cleared and police and administration are working with full commitment to ensure basic amenities like schools, hospitals, water, roads, anganwadis (child care centres) and mobile towers are available in the region, he said.
On January 6, Naxals blew up a vehicle using an IED weighing 60 to 70 kg, killing eight security personnel and their civilian driver near Ambeli village under the Kutru police station area of Bijapur.

Govt dragging its feet on immigrants: Motha MLA

Agartala: In a letter to Union HM Amit Shah, Tipra Motha Party legislator Ranjit Debbarma has accused the Tripura govt of dragging its feet on identifying and deporting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Debbarma is calling for the immediate implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state, citing a failure to adhere to the Centre's guidelines on establishing a Special Task Force (STF). Debbarma highlighted directives from the MHA issued on May 19, 2025, which mandated the detection and deportation of illegal migrants within 30 days. A follow-up order on May 28 urged state authorities and the Bureau of Immigration to act swiftly. Despite these directives, he claims the state govt has not set up detention camps or fully functional STFs across all districts. He criticized the existing STF for lacking central forces, civil administration officers, clear guidelines, and a dedicated headquarters, rendering it ineffective. Labeling the state's efforts as "an eyewash," Debbarma warned of ongoing large-scale infiltration, with some migrants allegedly engaging in "anti-India activities." He stressed that Tripura's and India's "national security and sovereignty" are at risk, urging the Centre to implement the NRC in Tripura, akin to the model used in Assam, with direct involvement from central police and administrative agencies. Man's Post On Migrant Workers Amid Stray Dog Debate Viral: Why Internet Rounded Up 'Elites'

Several actors including Jahnvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan who have spoken in favour of stray dogs have been trolled online for their "privileged" opinions. If you have just logged in to the Internet, welcome. A lot has unfolded in the past 24 hours. The Supreme Court ordered the removal of stray dogs from the streets of the capital city while hearing a suo motu case against the canines attacking children. This has led to a national debate that doesn't seem to cease any time soon. One camp believes that SC's order to round up stray dogs is a short-sighted and inhumane decision, one that is impractical. Where will the stray dogs go? Questioned a large number of netizens who strongly believe that lack of shelter and space would eventually deplete their population in this 'cruel" and enforced crackdown on the canines. The other side argued that the stray dogs were a menace to society and the rising case of dog bites, some even leading to horrific deaths, put especially the vulnerable, kids and the elderly, at most risk. The human lives trumped the animal lives, they said. But what about the migrant workers, delivery drivers, or BPO employees who return home late regularly? A man's post on X, extending his empathy towards workers toiling on the streets at night, has resonated with many. 'You Don't Realise The Consequences" X user, who goes by the handle @Prithvi10_, wrote: 'People who work till late into the night are majorly migrants who work at restaurants / bars who finish their job and return home from narrow lanes, food delivery boys, there are even BPO employees who walk home a lil from their dropping point (sic)." He added that these people aren't well-to-do and have to fight off the strays daily. The delivery persons put their lives at risk by speeding on their bikes to fend off the chasing strays. 'Why should they go through this. These are just hardly 2-3 examples," the user wrote before stating that there are videos of children being attacked by the animals on the loose and many of those incidents lead to deaths. He added that the workers who were at constant mercy of stray dogs did not enjoy the privilege of having secure jobs, and one unfortunate attack on them would mean someone else would replace their job, leaving them with no salary to run home. Concluding his now-viral post, the user remarked that the privileged were guarded by their cars when they stepped out to smoke late at night, and they were in no position to realise the consequences of defending the presence of strays on the streets and in society. A Reddit user, agreeing with the viral post, remarked that they had spent 20 years around pet dogs and they still took the necessary precautions, including muzzles and leashes, to safeguard others as dogs naturally possessed 'animalistic instincts". So an unsupervised stray was prone to attacking unprovoked. 'I'm a dog lover and and a I own 3 dogs. I can without any doubt say that strays are not just a problem for the society but for their own self too. They are fried up in summers, they freeze in winters, they reproduce within themselves(incest) and are born with disabilities too. Apart from feeding them no one cares for them (sic)." 'For the strays no one cares, they are a ticking time bomb always. The SC order is justified and in the benefit of all. The only concern is that the authorities actually should care for the strays once they are moved to a shelter (sic)." The Reddit commenter also urged people to refrain from calling it 'animal cruelty". They added that it did concern them what the future of these strays would be at the shelter and if they would be looked after well. 'Elites Know Nothing" Dismissing their Instagram protest as performative, many on X panned Bollywood celebrities for sharing a forwarded template in support of the stray dogs. The prevailing argument was that Bollywood celebrities, shielded and insulated, lacked a true understanding of ground-level realities. 'They call it a menace. We call it a heartbeat." Gated society elites preach "love street dogs" because they've never had a pack chase them at midnight. Dump 20 outside their villas and watch that love PR started — Wellu (@Wellutwt) August 12, 2025 'Gated society elites preach 'love street dogs" because they've never had a pack chase them at midnight. Dump 20 outside their villas and watch that love evaporate.." a user remarked. Animal Rights Activities, Dog Lovers Animal welfare advocates have emphasised that extensive sterilisation programs, regular vaccination campaigns, and community feeding centres offer more compassionate and sustainable solutions for managing stray populations. 'The real fix? Large-scale sterilisation programs, regular vaccination drives, community feeding zones, and adoption campaigns. Not punishment. Not imprisonment." John Abraham, Sanya Malhotra, and Bhumi Pednekar were among the many celebrities who have reacted strongly to the SC order.
