GMB viewers praise new 'presenter' as he makes 'amazing' debut at remarkable age
Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh thanked veteran Colin Bell for stepping up as a presenter after the oldest surviving RAF veteran began questioning the Veterans Minister
Good Morning Britain welcomed an unexpected co-presenter onto the show today after Colin Bell - the oldest surviving RAF veteran of World War II - began questioning the Veterans Minister live on air. The 104-year-old appeared on the ITV breakfast show to mark VE Day's 80th anniversary, opening up about his experience in World War II.
However, when it came for hosts Ed Balls and Ranvir Singh to interview Minister of Veterans and People Alistair Cairns, Colin had a few things to say.
When asked by Ed whether the government's aim to push defence spending to 2.5% of GDP was enough, Colin said: "I think it's rubbish. 2.5% - we ought to be thinking in terms of what the Poles are spending, that's spending over 4%.
"I would like to see over 5% spent not when we can afford it but now."
After the chat with Alistair, Ranvir thanked Colin for speaking up. "Thank you to our fellow presenter this morning with all his lovely challenging questions and wonderful points. Colin it is an absolute honour."
Colin replied: "No, it' s my pleasure and I'm always here to speak for the Royal Airforce, which I had the honour to be on, and Bomber Command which played an important part in assisting to win - it didn't win the war but it helped win the war."
Viewers took to social media to commend Colin for coming on the programme this morning. "Love Colin! & thank you for your service # GMB."
One wrote, while another said: "Colin, what a legend, 104 unbelievable #gmb."
Others couldn't believe that the veteran was 104 years old, with one tweeting: "How can someone's 104 look like that? Crikey! #gmb." A fourth said: "Wow he looks great for 104 #GMB."
Another fan wrote: "I'll have what's he's having if it gives me eternal youth! #gmb."
Last week, Ed balls and Susanna Reid found themselves in a heated debate over fly tipping, with some viewers left unimpressed.
When speaking about the solution to the rising fly-tipping problem, Susanna said: "I think bins on streets... When you come out of schools for instance and you've got loads of children and they've been to the shop and they have loads of rubbish, where do they put the rubbish? I don't mind if they put it in my bin."
She added: "Ed doesn't agree with me, and I'm really confused why this is a debate," while Ed replied: "I don't think everybody can have two bins, one in their house and then one on the street."

Labour put Red Arrows' future at risk by failing to replace ageing Hawk jets, slams Shadow Defence Secretary
LABOUR were accused of putting the Red Arrows future at risk last night by failing to replace their ageing Hawk jets. Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge slammed the government for 'dithering' after The Sun revealed the display team is running out of Hawk T1s. 6 6 6 He said: 'The Sun's revelations on Red Arrow availability show why Labour needs to stop dithering and actually get on with ordering a new RAF training jet. He added: 'They should commit to buying British so that renewal of the Red Arrows supports jobs and investment across the country.' Top Brass admitted the Red Arrows may be forced to cancel air shows to reduce the wear and tear on their surviving aircraft. The Hawk T1s entered service 50 years ago and the factory that made spare parts has closed. Ground crews have been forced to cannibalise parts from old planes to keep the best ones running. RAF sources denied industry claims the fleet could plummet to six working aircraft by 2028. They insisted the Red Arrows could keep 11 aircraft in service until 2030 by scrounging parts from older aircraft. But with a quarter of the fleet in maintenance at any one time, the display team would be unable to fly their trademark Diamond Nine formation. An industry source said the RAF's projections were 'wildly optimistic'. Labour's Strategic Defence Review demanded RAF replace its fleet of Hawk jets as soon as possible. A defence source close to John Healey said: 'We've been clear that we will deliver on all the SDR recommendations, a replacement jet worthy of our iconic Reds is no different.' Incredible moment Red Arrows jets soar over Buckingham Palace in stunning footage captured from inside the cockpit The only British contender is a concept jet known as the Aeralise Fast Jet Trainer. Critics claim Aeralis is Qatari owned and yet to make a prototype. An RAF spokesperson said: 'The Red Arrows will continue to use the Hawk to perform displays and flypasts until their out of service date and have sufficient aircraft in the fleet to do so. 'We continue to work closely with industry partners to ensure an appropriate number of aircraft will be available.' 6 6 6

Coronation Street fans rumble what really happened to Becky in sad Swain twist
Coronation Street fans are convinced they know what really happened to Becky - DS Lisa Swain's former partner - after Betsy learned some truths about Becky in tonight's episode Coronation Street fans have worked out what really happened to Becky. The character has never appeared on screen but she was a huge part of Lisa Swain's life before she arrived on the Cobbles. Lisa lost her partner Becky in the line of duty and has struggled with that since, unable to cope with the effect it had on their daughter Betsy and has feared her own danger whilst out on the beat after what happened to her late partner. Tonight, there was a shock twist as some truths came out about Becky, with more to come. Betsy found some files about Becky and whilst Swain tried to pass it off, Betsy continued her investigation with it looking like there was some corruption involved. We know Becky died in the line of duty after being run over by Mason's evil brothers during a robbery but now fans of the ITV soap have come up with a whole new theory about what happened to Becky. One fan wrote: "Becky Swain has either faked her own death or is in witness protection. Likely to next be seen alive at Carla & Lisa's wedding day when the guy asks if anyone has any objections." "So when Becky finally arrives, I need someone to make a joke about Lisa having a type. I'll even accept Becky saying it too," another added, with a third sharing: "Okay so Becky is either in whiteness protection or was a bent copper and idk what I'd love more #Corrie." There has been much talk about how well things are going for Carla and Lisa - affectionately named Swarla by fans - with Sydney Martin recently telling The Mirror that Betsy is rooting for them too. "I think secretly she would love it. Sydney would absolutely love it, but Betsy I think internally she would too. She knows the dynamic really works and she does truly see Carla as a stepmother and as family. But I think she would still be Betsy wouldn't she, and she would probably be embarrassed by them both," she told us. Vicky Myers - who plays Lisa - also shared her own hopes about the future for her character and Carla. She said: "I think a backstory would be great, but I think in time. There are so many other things that I think should be explored with the two of them and their extended family, and how they navigate life all together in their flat." Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Coronation Street star reacts to major show change and teases 'exciting' twists
Coronation Street's Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney has had her say on the schedule shake-up set to come into effect on the ITV soap in 2026, and she also teased the 65th anniversary One Coronation Street favourite has revealed all on a major change coming for the ITV soap. She also teased some "exciting" moments ahead, a possible romance for her character and hinted at the soap's 65th anniversary later this year. Amy Barlow actress Elle Mulvaney spoke exclusively to The Mirror about what was coming on the show for her character and others. She addressed hopes from fans for Amy and close pal Aadi Alahan to finally get together, after a near romance months earlier. When asked about the Emmerdale crossover, she promised fans it would be "unreal" while she also teased "exciting" 65th anniversary episodes later in the year. While Elle is yet to find out much of what's ahead, the stuff she does know will be kept under wraps for the time being. But it's safe to say there's good stuff ahead for Amy, while the actress did have her say on the news that from January 2026, the show will be on every night and will transmit shorter episodes. Some viewers had been worried about the news, but Elle says it's a good change-up as she recalled it was this way not too long ago. She told us: "I think it's exciting. Obviously we used to be five episodes not massively long ago so I don't think it is gonna be that different. "I almost feel like viewers will be getting more in a way because it will be on every single night. It's just a big change isn't it." Elle also shared her thoughts on the crossover, hoping to be involved as Corrie and Emmerdale unite. She said: "Oh my God, we are absolutely ecstatic about it. We cannot wait to know about it all, it's gonna be unreal. If you are a fan of both shows then this is a dream come true. "I mean hopefully I'll be involved. We will have to wait and see! You have got to remember that we both have got such massive casts so it will be a case of how many people can you fit into one episode, but we'll see! Hopefully I'm in it." She also remained coy about what she did or didn't know about the looming celebrations for the show's 65th, while one cast member teased the focus would mainly be on the crossover. Elle told us: "I'm excited to find out the details but I can't say anything!" Finally, Elle teased that things may be revisited for Amy and Aadi after their near-romance and their clear feelings for one another. She hinted: "For Amy we will definitely see more family things going on ahead, with the dynamics changing with both her parents having split again. "There is all of that going on and in Amy's love life, we might see some changes there so there's definitely a lot to come up." She added when asked about Aadi: "That's it, I think it will be a will they won't they situation but you will have to watch and see!"
