UP CM Adityanath targets Samajwadi Party for creating caste divisions
Speaking at a function held in the Lok Bhavan here on the eve of Daanveer Bhamashah Jayanti and Vyapari Kalyan Diwas, the chief minister lashed out at those who create caste divisions.
"Those who divide the society in the name of caste are the same people who, while in power, bowed down to the mafia and mortgaged power. Those who do vote bank politics in the name of caste are still roaming around and dividing the society," said Adityanath.
"Earlier they used to extort money in the name of jobs, now they are dividing in the name of caste. That is why I say 'bantoge to katoge, ek rahoge to nek rahoge' ," he added.
The chief minister also called for adopting the ideals of Bhamashah and keeping the society free from caste divisions.
Describing traders as an important part of nation building, Adityanath reiterated the double engine government's commitment for their security, respect and welfare.
He also spoke on the support of King Chamarajendra Wadiyar of Mysore and King Ajit Singh of Khetri in sending Swami Vivekananda to the Chicago Religious Conference.
Referring to the scholarship given by King Sayajirao Gaekwad of Vadodara to Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar for foreign studies, the chief minister said, "This support was done with 'saatvik' and positive feelings, as a result of which the world got gems like Vivekananda and Ambedkar."
Throwing light on the life and contribution of Bhamashah, Adityanath said, "Bhamashah was born on June 29, 1547 in Rajasthan. He was made the 'mahamantri' due to his business acumen and loyalty towards the Mewar dynasty. When Maharana Pratap faced a shortage of resources in the battle of Haldighati, Bhamashah dedicated his entire property to Maharana."
"With this cooperation, Maharana Pratap took back the forts of Mewar and Chittorgarh from Akbar's army...This sacrifice of Bhamashah is a symbol of the spirit of 'Nation First'," he added.
"He had said that this property has been acquired from the country itself and it is his duty to dedicate it to the country. Whenever Maharana Pratap will be discussed, Daanveer Bhamashah will also be remembered," Adityanath said.
The chief minister highlighted that a brutal murder of a trader took place in Lucknow and a jeweller was shot in Sultanpur in 2016, the incidents that occurred under a regime which provided shelter to criminals.
He said the security of both traders and women has been treated as paramount under his administration.
"We made it clear that anyone who endangers their safety will face strict consequences. Yamraj will cut their ticket," Adityanath said.
When action was taken against miscreants, those who once thrived on caste-based politics began shedding crocodile tears, he added.
Adityanath also spoke about the "One District One Product" scheme, which he said has boosted traditional industries and generated employment for millions.
He criticised the previous regimes for promoting "One District One Mafia", which, according to him, led to a complete breakdown in law and order.
Adityanath reaffirmed that the double-engine government is committed to protecting the interests of traders and ensuring their safety and prosperity.
He instructed the GST department to organise annual felicitation ceremonies for the top 10 GST-paying traders in the state capital and the top 10 in each district.
The chief minister also announced that any GST-paying trader, who suffers an accident will be given ₹ 10 lakh in assistance from the government on this day.
Adityanath called on traders to join the government's efforts for environmental protection.
"River rejuvenation and plantation drives are ongoing in every district. Traders and business organisations should actively participate," he urged.
Quoting the Bhagavad Gita, he said, "Wealth has three destinations charity , consumption or destruction . Charity offered at the right time, to the right cause, to the country, brings glory for generations. Bhamashah's noble charity became the foundation of Mewar's freedom."
On the occasion, Adityanath visited an exhibition showcasing the life of Bhamashah.
He also presented the Bhamashah Samman to the state's top revenue-contributing traders and honoured several others for their exemplary contributions to society.
In a symbolic gesture of respect, the trader community presented the chief minister with a mace , the Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement.

Amid caste conflict in region, black flags to greet Akhilesh
1 2 Varanasi: As caste conflict raises its head in the wake of incident related to Bhagwat 'katha vachaks' in Etawah, some Brahmin groups are threatening to show black flags to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh when he comes there to open his party office-cum-residence in Azamgarh on Thursday. Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha's Harivansh Mishra said the SP supremo was capable of calling both groups in Etawah and resolving their issues, but unfortunately, he chose politics instead of remembering how leaders like late Janeshwar Mishra contributed to the rise of SP. He said that due to the role of the SP chief in this episode, Brahmins were going to display black flags at their homes on Thursday when Akhilesh arrived in Azamgarh. In another development, a group of members of Scheduled Caste allegedly constructed a wall on the route leading to the temple of Lord Hanuman in Chandapur village. As the priest of the temple locked the 200 years old temple and warned to halt prayers till the wall was removed, a large number of Bajrang Dal activists and villagers set up a front. In response, the SC group reached district headquarters to meet officials to ensure the wall was not removed. In view of the tense situation in the village, PAC and RAF forces were rushed in and remained deployed even on Tuesday. Varanasi police commissioner Mohit Agrawal said both groups failed to resolve the issue. The district magistrate formed a committee to check the status of the land of the temple and road in revenue records and till the time the committee filed investigation report, both groups were directed to maintain status quo. Agrawal said forces would remain deployed till the issue was resolved. Before the administration and police could douse the flames of this dispute, another attempt to fan caste clashes was made in Chandapur on Jun 29, when a local, Ramkishan, called Cholapur police station in charge and claimed that some Brahmins in the village were vandalising an Ambedkar statue. To investigate the matter, sub-inspector Abhijit Singh, reached the spot and found the statue undisturbed. FIR was lodged against the caller on charges of attempting to incite a clash between Brahmins and SC members. Jaunpur police also had to rush to Takha Purab village under Shahganj police station area on Monday when some anti-social elements vandalised an Ambedkar statue, to pacify locals. In Azamgarh, where SP leaders are busy preparing for grand opening of the new residence of party chief Akhilesh Yadav , many groups reached district headquarters demanding action against those making derogatory remarks against Brahmins, especially women. On Tuesday, office-bearers and workers of Akhil Bharatvarshiya Brahmin Mahasabha reached district headquarters with their demand for immediate arrest of four accused of provoking emotions on caste lines and targeting Brahmins and their women. The organisation's national vice president Subhash Chandra Tiwari, district president Abhishek Pandey and other office-bearers said the Etawah incident was a matter of concern and though administration was taking action, the issue had been politicised. They said neither all Brahmins, nor all Yadavs indulged in disturbing harmony, hence all responsible leaders and persons should ensure that social unity was not disturbed. They submitted a memorandum demanding strict action against those trying to create disharmony on caste lines. Delhi Confidential: Alliance signal
There may be voices within the party against an alliance with Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh, but Congress leaders in Uttar Pradesh have got a signal from Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi that the alliance is going to stay. In a post in Hindi on X on Tuesday, Rahul wished SP president Akhilesh Yadav on his birthday, saying '…we will fight shoulder-to-shoulder for justice and equality'. This led to discussions in Congress circles in Lucknow that they needed to be cautious while commenting on the alliance and Samajwadi Party. Uttar Pradesh goes to polls in 2027. Gathering Pace With the BJP organisational elections gathering steam, insiders say the entire exercise will be completed by this month. According to party leaders, presidents have been appointed in eight states in the last two days, adding to the 14 state chiefs already appointed. Two more announcements are likely coming on Wednesday and another one the following day, making the total number to 25, more than the required to go for the national president's election. However, a number of politically crucial states are still to get a chief, most prominent being Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Gujarat. Kolkata Hackathon Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav was in Kolkata on Monday for the finale of a 110-hour national hackathon that sought solutions to tackle challenges to biodiversity and climate change. Yadav awarded a cash prize of `1 lakh to the winners. Last year, the ministry had organised a hackathon seeking ideas from students to tackle local environmental issues using technology.

On birthday, Akhilesh appeals to SP workers: Contribute for Mulayam memorial in Saifai
AS SAMAJWADI Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav marked his 52nd birthday on Tuesday, his appeal to party workers to make 'faith contributions' (funds) for the Samajwadi Party's Netaji memorial as a gift instead of organising celebrations, along with a promise to include names of all donors in a memorial booklet, has brought the upcoming memorial in his native village of Saifai in Etawah into the limelight. Over 223 km from the state capital, the memorial will be built on the lines of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC in the United States. At present, over 150 workers are working on the memorial at the Samadhi Sthal of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav with the ground floor of the proposed three-storied building nearing completion and the work on the first floor in progress. 'This year, my humble appeal to all my well-wishers is that on the occasion of my birthday, instead of giving any kind of bouquet, statue, photo, replica of our party symbol bicycle or any other kind of gift, they should officially deposit their contributions in the party office as their 'astha anshdan' (faith contribution) for Samajwadi Smarak under construction for Netaji,' Akhilesh wrote in a post on X. He also promised them to make public a booklet of contributions made for the memorial with their names mentioned. 'To thank you for your commitment to socialist values and your co-operation, the name of every contributor will be published in Samajwadi Smarak Sahyog Pustika,' he promised. Wary of fraud, the SP has, however, cautioned workers that no account has been officially set up for the purpose yet. Asked about Akhilesh's appeal, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly and veteran party leader Mata Prasad Pandey said, 'The only idea is to give everyone a sense of contribution to the memorial of Netaji, it would be as small as Rs 11 to anything like Rs 51,000 or Rs 1 lakh. The main purpose is to make everyone feel connected with the memorial of their leader… that is all.' Meanwhile, at the under-construction memorial, a senior party worker, Lakhan Singh Yadav, wearing SP cap and carrying SP flags on his bicycle, has travelled all the way from neighbouring district Kannauj to garland the bust of Mulayam Singh Yadav at his Samadhi sthal. Upon seeing him at the spot, some young SP workers were seen taking selfies with him. Unaware about Akhilesh's appeal, he says that all he wants is the memorial to be completed at the earliest so that he can visit it 'like a temple'. What is Samajwadi Smarak? The memorial is coming up in Saifai, the native village of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav over 18 acres. Its foundation stone was laid by SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav on November 22, 2023, to mark Mulayam's birth anniversary. The design of this memorial is inspired by the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, United States, which is built in the memory of former US President Abraham Lincoln. Officials at the site in Saifai informed that construction is being carried out by experts from a Hyderabad-based construction agency and the main building of the memorial would be of three floors of 27 metres height. In this memorial, on the first floor, there will be a 6 metre-long statue of Mulayam Singh Yadav. At present, the work on the basement complex has been completed, while the work on the first floor has started. 'There is a laboratory established on the ground to check the quality of the construction material being used here. The structure would be such that it can stand for at least 100 years,' he informed, adding that there would be a green garden and lawns on both sides of the pathway leading to the memorial and there would also be shops, visitor centre and museum near the entrance.
