Vincent Kompany's side will now play European champions Paris Saint-Germain in Atlanta on Saturday for a place in the last four.
Flamengo, backed by a huge and passionate following at Hard Rock Stadium, bow out of the tournament despite a performance of real determination from Filipe Luis's team.
It took just six minutes for Bayern to grab the lead when Joshua Kimmich whipped in a corner and Flamengo defender Erick Pulgar's header flashed into his own net off the far post.
Four minutes later and Bayern had doubled their advantage. Dayot Upamecano won the ball inside Flamengo's half and fed Harry Kane whose low shot deflected off Leo Ortiz and rattled into the bottom corner.
The German champions looked like they were going to run away with the game but the three-times Copa Libertadores champions were able to find a foothold in the game.
Luiz Araujo forced Manuel Neuer into action with a dangerous snap shot and then the winger went close again with a shot on the turn which flew just wide of the post.
Flamengo were rewarded for their efforts in the 33rd minute when after the dangerous Araujo played the ball in from the left, the ball fell to Gerson who unleashed a thunderbolt which rocketed past Neuer to bring the bulk of the 60,914 crowd to their feet.
But all that good work from the Rio team was undone four minutes before the break when Araujo's poor clearance landed straight at the feet of Leon Goretzka who had the time and space to settle himself before, from over 20 yards out, placing his shot into the corner to make it 3-1.
Flamengo came out determined to respond once again and they reduced the deficit again in the 55th minute when Michael Olise handled a cross from Giorgian de Arrascaeta at close range.
It was the kind of tough call that has become normal in the modern game and former Chelsea midfielder Jorginho took advantage of the opportunity with an ice-cool conversion.
But for all Flamengo's energy, they lacked composure and quality at key moments in the final third something that could never be said about Bayern.
The contest was finally settled in the 73rd minute when Konrad Laimer won the ball in midfield and fed Kimmich who in turn slipped the ball through to Kane who confidently beat Agustin Rossi with one of his trademark precision and power drives.

'Club World Cup Has Destroyed Us': Pep Guardiola Worried About Man City's Potential Burnout; Lambasts FIFA

Last Updated: Pep Guardiola is worried about Manchester City's lack of rest before the new Premier League season due to the Club World Cup, fearing it could "destroy" them. Is one trophy worth throwing away your entire season ahead? Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed concerns about the lack of rest his side will get ahead of the new Premier League season, highlighting how their involvement in the Club World Cup could 'destroy" them. City concluded their previous Premier League season on May 25 and began their Club World Cup campaign in Philadelphia just over three weeks later, on June 18. This Saturday, they will face Al-Hilal in Orlando in the round of 16. If City reaches the final on July 13, they will have one month to prepare for their new league campaign, starting on August 16. Guardiola expressed uncertainty about the toll the Club World Cup would take on his squad, advising reporters to inquire about the impact later in the year. 'We might be a disaster; we could be exhausted. The World Cup may have drained us," he remarked. 'I don't know, but this is unprecedented for us. We will find out." Echoing Jurgen Klopp's Concerns Guardiola is not the first to voice concerns over player well-being due to the congested football schedule. Earlier this year, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp criticised FIFA, calling the expanded 32-team event, held every four years during pre-season, football's worst idea. 'I think it's useless. It doesn't help if there is no summer break," Klopp stated in January, referring to players who participated in the World Cup, European Championship, Copa America, or other international competitions. Guardiola echoed his former rival's concerns, stressing the importance of giving players sufficient rest. 'Jurgen, we have had many battles, especially during UEFA meetings or discussions about the Premier League calendar, to improve quality and ensure managers and players get more rest," Guardiola said. 'So his comments didn't surprise me. I understand his argument and would support it as well." (with agency inputs) About the Author Siddarth Sriram First Published: June 30, 2025, 09:54 IST

Club World Cup: Paris Saint Germain sets sights on another trophy with a dominating win over Messi's Inter Miami

Paris Saint-Germain left no doubt it was Europe's top club with a historic victory in the Champions League. Now, PSG is intent on conquering the world. Les Rouge-et-Bleu turned in a dominating performance at the Club World Cup on Sunday (June 29, 2025), brushing aside Lionel Messi and Inter Miami with a first-half blitz that resulted in a 4-0 victory. While the European powerhouses complained mightily about having to play in the newly expanded tournament at the end of a grueling season, PSG is taking the 32-team competition seriously. Outside of a 1-0 loss to Brazilian club Botafogo in group play, PSG has won three games by a cumulative 10-0 since arriving in the United States. 'It's clear that this is a historic season for us. We intend to continue making history with this competition," PSG coach Luis Enrique said through an interpreter. "We're fighting to claim silverware. This season is very long for all the teams. But we're excited to be here.' PSG advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will face Bayern Munich next Saturday in Atlanta. The German club defeated Flamengo of Brazil 4-2. There was a huge buildup to the game against Messi, who played two seasons at PSG before making the move to South Florida in the twilight of his brilliant career and was facing his former coach at Barcelona. But even with an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner leading the way, the club from Major League Soccer was simply no match for a deep, talented squad that routed Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final a month ago. João Neves scored a pair of goals for PSG, setting the tone with a header off a free kick just six minutes into the match. He scored again in the 39th, and Inter Miami totally fell apart in the closing minutes of the opening half. Tomás Avilés gave up an own-goal on a cross in front of the net, and Achraf Hakimi added to his brilliant campaign with another tally in stoppage time. With a four-goal cushion at the break, PSG could start looking ahead to its next match. 'We will play our game no matter who is against us," Neves said. "We are confident.' Messi barely touched the ball in the first half as the Herons struggled mightily just to get across the just to get across the halfway line. The pink-clad fans in the crowd of 65,574 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium tried to stir the underdogs with occasional chants of 'Messi! Messi! Messi!' but it did little good. PSG was simply too good. 'With their youthful players and high caliber and an amazing coach, they didn't let us relax for one second,' Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano said through an interpreter. 'I feel like this is a team that will be remembered.' In another encouraging sign for PSG, French star Ousmane Dembélé got his first action of the tournament after sustaining a left quadriceps injury while on duty with the national team. He came on a substitute for Neves in the 62nd minute. 'It is very important for us to have injured players come back into the fold,' Enrique said. 'We have to focus on our goals and get our players back.' Especially when there's another trophy within reach.

Saiyami Kher on competing in her second Half Ironman race in Sweden: This time, the race is eight times tougher

Come July 6 and Saiyami Kher will be taking part in her second half Ironman race in Sweden. The actor has already left for the event and has some mixed emotions running. 'This time around, actually I'm a little more nervous. It's like growing up. When you're young, you don't have fears, but when you start getting experiences, then those fear start setting in,' she says. Saiyami Kher Saiyami Kher did her first half Ironman last year in September, and thus she insists that she knows how demanding this would be. 'The added fear is that this time, the race is eight times tougher as the terrain is very hilly. Last time, it was all flat routes. This is a more advanced race because it's also the European championship. The people who win will qualify for the world championships, but I'm just trying to finish. This one's even more challenging, but that's what makes it even more exciting,' she shares. While her training mostly remained the same as what she did for her first race—two hours daily and six hours on Sundays, training in running, cycling and swimming—she did add one addendum to it. 'I started running on Pali Hill (Mumbai) and the steep slope near Shah Rukh Khan sir's house (in Bandra, Mumbai). Those are the slopes I am running on for two to three kilometres. I am consciously doing more hill training, and that is what I changed around this time,' she shares, adding, 'It's more like a lifestyle for me now. It's not so much that 'bas aaj hi uth ke workout karna hai'. The day I don't train, I feel something is wrong.' Saiyami feels that while her last race was about her, this time she is doing it for the people who are rooting for her. 'I've been overwhelmed by the support I got after my first race. I was just doing it because I wanted to do it, but it just showed me the power of social media if it's used in a positive way. The amount of people that have reached out to me saying, they want to start a healthy lifestyle after seeing me, is just so fulfilling because it's something that you want people to adopt,' she says. Not just among the common men, but the actor found some strong support within the industry too: 'Even from the industry, there were so many people who reached out saying that it's incredible what I've done. I am very proud of myself because there is no other female actor who's done the Half Ironman. The sense of strength that comes with doing sports, trickles down to even in the roles that I choose, and I am very happy that I have played some strong characters due to that,' she ends.
