Bihar proposes a separate state narcotics control bureau to tackle drug trafficking
The cases of drug paddling have increased alarmingly after the new prohibition law came into effect in April 2016. Bihar will be the third state in the country to set up a separate state narcotics control bureau after Punjab and Haryana.
Additional Director General (ADG), headquarters, Kundan Krishnan said on Monday that a proposal for setting up a separate state narcotics control bureau has been sent to the state government.
'We hope to get the proposal approved by the end of August,' he said. The State narcotics control bureau will be headed by an ADG-rank officer. The police headquarters has already completed its preparations for the narcotics bureau, such as its jurisdiction, powers, functions and coordination with other related departments.
Krishnan, who is the official spokesperson of the state police, said that once the proposal gets approval, the process of filling the post in the bureau will start. Other things will later follow.
At present, special task force has a separate narcotics cell which deals with drug trafficking.
'We have a team within STF with officers with vast experience and a network. They will be shifted to the state narcotics bureau. Our men have done tremendous work as far as seizure of heroin and other substances is concerned,' ADG, HQ, told this reporter.

'During this period, police came to know about two relatives of Jain who removed documents and evidence linked to the case from his house in Kavi Nagar to Delhi. These were recovered during the raids in Delhi last Thursday. Now, the two relatives of Jain are also suspects in the case (for causing the disappearance of evidence). In all, we now have three suspects in the case,' said deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (City Zone) Dhawal Jaiswal. The police said 'they will face BNS section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence)', said assistant commissioner of police (Kavi Nagar circle) Bhaskar Verma. Officers, however, did not divulge their names.

156.6 kg ganja seized in state capital, 1 held
Lucknow: The Lucknow police and the Special Task Force (STF) seized 156.6 kg of ganja worth ₹40 lakh and arrested one trafficker during a joint operation in Nagram's Patwa Kheda area on Sunday. The accused, Shivam Yadav (28) of Semapur Achaka, was caught with the contraband hidden in 77 packets across eight sacks inside an SUV. His associate, Suraj Singh of Sultanpur, escaped by fleeing into nearby fields. According to the police, the duo smuggled ganja from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, stored it at a poultry farm and sold it in Lucknow and nearby districts. Both met in jail in 2022 and resumed drug trafficking after release. They used luxury vehicles and frequently changed routes to evade detection. Police registered a case under NDPS Act sections 8/20/29/60. The team involved was rewarded ₹15,000 by the DCP, Lucknow East.
