Minister Sridhar Babu shocks over Janmastami incident, assures ex-gratia to victims
Minister Sridhar Babu described the loss as extremely unfortunate and vowed that the government would provide all possible support to the bereaved families. He announced that each bereaved family would receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh, while the government would cover the medical expenses for the injured.
Preliminary reports indicated that the tragic event was caused by live current passing through a cable wire. In response, the Minister has instructed relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident, overseen by the District Collector, and to implement strict measures against those found responsible.
Moreover, a special drive has been commissioned across Greater Hyderabad to assess and mitigate risks related to hanging cables and electric wires, ensuring safety standards at public gatherings.
Minister Sridhar Babu reiterated the government's commitment to the health of the injured, seeking detailed reports on their condition and ensuring the best possible medical care is provided.

UT police's head constable held guilty in bribery case
A special CBI Court of Chandigarh on Monday held a Chandigarh Police's head constable guilty in a graft case. The quantum of the sentence will be pronounced on August 20. The convict, Ram Kumar, was held guilty under Section 7 as well as Section 13(1) (d) (ii) punishable under Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case dates back to 2017, when Ram Kumar who was posted as a head constable at the Sarangpur police station, was booked by the CBI. According to the prosecution, Ram Kumar was held in May 2017, by the sleuths of the CBI while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman, who was named in a FIR of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. The policeman was taking the bribe for not taking any action against the woman, whose husband Shiv Nath had already been arrested in the case. The complainant and her husband were booked for assaulting their relative on March 3. The FIR was registered at the Sarangpur police station and the investigation was being conducted by Ram Kumar. The CBI claimed that Ram Kumar demanded Rs 18,000 from the complainant but later the deal was struck for Rs 10,000. When the constable went to take the bribe amount, the CBI sleuths reached the spot and caught the cop and recovered the bribe money from him. The policeman was caught from a residential area in Sarangpur. During the trial in court, the defence counsel argued that the accused had been falsely implicated in the case and had no involvement in the matter. The court, however, after hearing the arguments, held the accused guilty. 'The convict be taken in judicial custody and be produced before this court on that day at 10 am sharp. His custody warrant be prepared accordingly,' read the order by the Court of Special CBI Judge, Alka Malik, Additional District and Sessions Judge.

DRI busts illegal Alprazolam unit in Andhra, seizes drugs worth Rs 23 cr
Amaravati/Hyderabad, August 18 (PTI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence busted a clandestine Alprazolam manufacturing facility at Atchuthapuram in Anakapalli district, seizing drugs worth over Rs 23 crore. Based on specific intelligence, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials from Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Kakinada districts jointly conducted a coordinated operation, apprehending eight individuals, including the mastermind, financiers, chemists and prospective buyers, an official release said on Monday. 'DRI sleuths bust clandestine Alprazolam manufacturing facility in Atchuthapuram, Alprazolam worth over Rs 24 crore seized," said the press release, adding that over 119 kg of illicit Alprazolam was seized from the market. DRI officials also seized over 87 kgs of under-production Alprazolam and 3,600 litres of liquid raw materials, 312 kgs of solid precursors, two reactors, a centrifuge, a drier and incriminating documents. All the accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody, said the press release. Authorities said some of the arrested were involved in narcotics cases, along with criminal histories including murder, cyber-crimes and economic offences. The seized Alprazolam consignment was intended for use in Telangana to adulterate toddy, the release added. Patna man ‘abducts' minor relative to pay off unpaid loan
A 12‑year‑old boy was allegedly abducted by his cousin by marriage in Patna's Phulwarisharif Saturday to recover a loan of Rs 12 lakh, the police said. According to Patna City (West) SP Bhanu Pratap Singh, an FIR was lodged immediately at Phulwarisharif Police Station, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under SHO Ghulam Shahbaz Alam. Within six hours, the boy was found safe and the prime accused, Ramesh Ranjan, 43, was arrested. Police also recovered a car, a knife, two mobile phones, and Rs 6,420 in cash from him. 'There was minor assault by the accused during captivity, for which the child received medical attention. Behind the crime was the accused's intent to clear a substantial outstanding loan by seeking ransom,' SP Singh added. The boy allegedly told police that Ranjan called and lured him outside under the guise of visiting his maternal grandparents. 'After placing him in a car, Ranjan attempted to make the child unconscious using chloroform as they drove away,' the officer said. During interrogation, Ramesh Ranjan allegedly revealed that he had earlier taken a total loan of Rs 15 lakh for his beauty shop on Jagdeo Path and that he had 'engineered the abduction' to get the money to pay off the Rs 12 lakh that remained. The suspect 'had initially planned to abduct someone else', but after failing to do so, he resorted to kidnapping the child, the officer said.
