Bangladesh's first group lands in Lahore for three-match T20I series

The first batch of the Bangladesh cricket team arrived in Lahore early Sunday morning ahead of their three-match T20 International series against Pakistan.
The 10-member group includes players Hasan Mahmud, Mohammad Tanvir Islam, Parvez Hossain Emon, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, along with several support staff.
Bangladesh's squad is arriving in three separate groups. Both teams are expected to conduct training sessions at the Gaddafi Stadium on May 26 and 27.
A joint press conference featuring the captains is scheduled for May 27, ahead of the series opener.
The development followed a meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Nazmul Abedin and President Faruque Ahmed.
Bangladesh's national team was confirmed to tour Pakistan this month for a three-match T20 International series.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi thanked his Bangladeshi counterparts for finalising the tour, stating: 'We are grateful to the BCB leadership for their trust and cooperation. This series was another positive step in strengthening cricketing ties between our nations.'

The PCB had initially considered hosting matches in Faisalabad as well, but the revival of international cricket in the city appeared to be delayed once again.
Earlier reports indicated that several Bangladeshi players had expressed reluctance to commit to a five-match series due to their ongoing cricketing schedule.

Asia Cup in limbo after Pakistan, India clashes
NEW DELHI: This year's Asia Cup hangs in the balance following the recent clashes between tournament hosts Pakistan and India. India are scheduled to host the Asia Cup, a flagship event of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), in September but uncertainty lingers over the T20 tournament. The ACC on Monday announced the postponement of the women's Emerging Asia Cup, which was due to begin on Friday, citing weather conditions and the spread of the viral disease chikungunya in host nation Sri Lanka. India will host the women's 50-overs World this year but Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka under an arrangement made by the International Cricket Council. India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy this year and played all their matches, including the March 9 final, in Dubai. Bilateral cricket has been suspended since 2013 between the Asian neighbours, who play each other only in multi-team events. India head coach Gautam Gambhir is against playing Pakistan even in neutral venues but will follow whatever the BCCI decided, he said last month.

The tournament will feature eight teams competing in a round-robin format with 28 league matches. India, which last hosted an ICC global women's event in 2016, will kick off the tournament in Bengaluru. The venues for the knockout rounds, including the semifinals and final, are contingent upon Pakistan qualifying. Two alternative venues, Bengaluru and Colombo, have been selected for the semifinals and final. India had refused to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled from February 19 to March 9, and played its matches in Dubai, a model previously used during the 2023 Asia Cup.
