‘Very lucky': Kansas City crews rescue woman hanging onto tree after Indian Creek flash flood
At about 12:50 p.m., units with KCFD were called to the area of West 101st Terrace on the south side of Kansas City on reports of a water rescue, just north of Indian Creek and the Indian Creek trail.

Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins told FOX4 that emergency responders found a woman hanging onto a tree after she had gotten stuck in the floodwaters.
'We received a call from somebody who was walking by or maybe out of these apartments that heard a lady out in the water screaming for help,' Chief Hopkins said. 'We responded, and when we arrived, we found an individual about 50 to 75 yards off the bank, where the water had risen.
'She was holding on to a tree out in the moving water, needing rescue.'
Rescue crews used an inflatable rubber boat (IRB) to navigate through the floodwaters and retrieve the victim.
KCFD said she was brought to shore tired and shaken—but uninjured. She was evaluated by on-scene EMS crews but refused further treatment or transport.
'Around our city, we have several areas, several creeks, several low-lying areas that tend to flood and hold water, like Indian Creek,' Hopkins said. 'If you live in or work around those areas, be vigilant. If the water starts to rise, get away from it. It's very dangerous.
'The individual today was very lucky that she was able to hold on until we could get her out of the water.'

High temperatures continue Tuesday in Philadelphia area, air quality alerts in effect
Our fifth heat wave of the summer is underway in the Philadelphia area, and it's only going to get hotter. On Tuesday, the heat turns up even more with high temperatures across the region likely in the mid-upper 90s. The forecast Tuesday and Wednesday in Philadelphia is for a high of 98 degrees, which would tie the record for both days. But what will it feel like? Along with the increasing temperatures, the humidity will also be on the rise, which will make it feel like anywhere between 100-105 degrees. When temperatures climb this high, it can be dangerous for anyone without adequate ways to stay cool and hydrated. As a result, the NEXT Weather Team has issued a NEXT Weather Alert through Wednesday evening. A few storms may fire up late Wednesday but there is a much greater chance of storms by Thursday. Those showers and storms will develop ahead of an approaching cold front that will put an end to this heat wave and usher in much cooler air by Friday. Friday is the start of August, and the start of an extended cooler stretch of air bringing relief from the heat through the first week of August. Highs Friday and into the weekend will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. The high temperatures combined with "low level smoke" led the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to issue a Code Orange air quality alert and "action day" for Tuesday in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties. The alert means groups such as children, those with respiratory problems and older people are vulnerable to pollution in the air and should limit time outside. The state is also asking residents to voluntarily help with pollution by driving less, refueling cars after dark and conserving electricity. A Code Orange alert is in effect Tuesday in Delaware as well. An air quality alert is also in place until 12:01 a.m. Wednesday for Gloucester and Camden counties and northwestern Burlington County. Travelers at Detroit Metro Airport experience delays, cancellations after heavy rain causes flooding
Multiple inches of rain fell in over an hour at Detroit Metro Airport Monday afternoon, causing over 450 total delays, over 70 cancellations, and impacting the airport's roads. "I mean, we got delayed four and a half hours, had to divert from Pittsburgh, sat there for a while. At least we made it. I was supposed to go to the Tigers game tonight, but you know," said Jordan Sluss, who had traveled from Tennessee to Michigan. While thousands of travelers inside the airport tracked their delayed flights, many others were stuck on the roads just trying to get inside the Evans Terminal, while others weren't even able to get to the McNamara Terminal. "Very frustrating, but we're here now, so we're going home," Carl Tutt said. A ground stop had been issued at the airport because of the heavy rain. It was eventually lifted, but for many travelers leaving Detroit or coming to Detroit, it was a day filled with headaches that now may be spilling over into Tuesday. Dion Walker from Detroit had been stuck at the airport since 1 p.m., waiting for his flight to Memphis. "Do you have any idea when the flight is going to head out? They said tomorrow, so more than likely we want to get a room and wait until the morning, that's all we can do," Walker said. Another traveler from Charlotte, Drew Boyles, said his flight to Detroit had been delayed five hours. He said it was a frustrating day for him and even worse for some others on his flight. "There was a woman who has been trying to get here for like two days, so I feel a lot more bad for her, but I'm here," Boyle said.
