Terrion Arnold left practice with hamstring injury

NBC Sportsa day ago
The Lions are dealing with a couple of injuries in their starting defensive backfield.
Cornerback Terrion Arnold left Tuesday's practice early and he's being evaluated for a hamstring injury. Arnold worked with a trainer on the side of the field rather than head inside for further evaluation, but the team has not offered an official update on his condition.
The Lions were already practicing without safety Kerby Joseph, but they expect to have him back soon.
Head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that Joseph is dealing with knee irritation and that the hope is that he will be able to resume practicing after the Hall of Fame Game later this week.

Detroit Lions, LA Chargers Meet In NFL Hall Of Fame Game Thursday

The National Football League's 2025 season officially begins Thursday with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The game matches a pair of 2024 playoff teams, the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Chargers, and also serves as a prelude to the annual induction ceremony for the latest class of Hall of Famers. The four inductees this season are cornerback Eric Allen, defensive end Jared Allen, tight end Antonio Gates and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe. They will receive their gold jackets at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Saturday. Most NFL teams choose not to risk to key players in the preseason, and this will be no different. A Look at the Detroit Lions The Lions have a new look and a new determination. Detroit went 15-2 a year ago, but the winningest season in franchise history landed with a thud in a 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in the NFC division playoffs. In quick succession, the Lions then lost both coordinators to head coaching jobs, Ben Johnson to the Chicago Bears and Aaron Glenn to the New York Jets. John Morton was promote to replace Johnson as offensive coordinator, and he will be calling plays for backup quarterback Hendon Hooker and newcomer Kyle Allen on Thursday. Hooker won the backup job behind Jared Goff after a strong 2024 preseason. Goff will not dress. The Lions' top two draft picks, first-round defensive Tyliek Williams and second-round center Tate Ratledge also will be held out, as will Pro Bowl edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who is returning from two left leg fractures that limited him to five games a year ago. A Look at the Los Angeles Chargers Jim Harbaugh took the Chargers to the playoffs in his first season, but they also suffered a disappointing loss in the first round of the AFC playoffs when they were blown out by Houston 32-12 as the Texans throttled quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert will not dress here, with journeyman Trey Lance getting the start as he looks to move up the depth chart. Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 draft by San Francisco, is still searching for a landing spot after spending time with the 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. He will play the first half and a series in the third, Harbaugh said, with rookie DJ Uiagalelei in relief. Lance signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Chargers in April. Taylor Heinicke is listed as No. 2 on the depth chart. First-round draftee Omarion Hampton, the 22nd pick and second running back taken, will play, Harbaugh said. Hampton is expected to join newcomer Najee Harris as the 1-2 running backs in the regular season. Harris is out after suffering an eye injury in a July 4 fireworks accident. A look at the matchup Like much of the exhibition season, regulars will not see much if any action Thursday, which makes the result relatively less predictable. The spread: Lions -1 1/2. The money line: Lions -135, Chargers +110. The total: 32 1/2. The Hall of Fame Game usually devolves into a defense-first affair. Offenses have been in training camp less than two weeks, hardly enough time to work into peak form, and with backups/rookies at the skill positions, scoring can be a challenge. That being said, the last two and four of the last six games have gone over the total. With quarterbacks on both sides looking to make a statement here, look for that to continue. The play: Over 32 1/2.

Sheehan says Lions are hungry for Australia whitewash

Dan Sheehan has claimed the British and Irish Lions have all the motivation they need to whitewash Australia while delivering their finest performance on tour. Now that the celebrations for securing an unassailable 2-0 series lead have subsided, the Lions have hardened their resolve to sign off their Southern Hemisphere expedition with a 100 per cent record. If they triumph at Sydney's Accor Stadium on Saturday, they will become the first Lions side in almost a century to win every Test. Rainy one at training today in Sydney 🌧️🦁#Lions2025 — British & Irish Lions (@lionsofficial) July 30, 2025 A dramatic 29-26 victory in Melbourne has placed Andy Farrell's men on the brink of greatness, but Sheehan admits the review of the second Test was "not pretty watching for a lot of it". "It would be disappointing if we didn't show up on Saturday," the Ireland hooker said. "It would be different if the series was in the balance, but we've always been pretty clear on our goals - to go unbeaten overseas and win the series 3-0. So we just need to stick to what we said. "There are a lot of people who have put a lot of effort into travelling out for this game and a lot of our families will be here as well, so there's plenty of motivation. And I can only imagine what the Australians are feeling now as well. "We are searching for an 80-minute performance this weekend. The people and the talent we have are crazy. We just need to get them all working. "There's also an individual onus on how you show up to a game - myself included because there are a few moments in the second Test when you're wondering what you were doing. We can be a lot better, definitely in that first half. "But that's part of rugby. It's such an imperfect game that you've got to get over those moments pretty quick. And you get another chance on Saturday, hopefully." Farrell names his team on Thursday and must decide to what extent fresh legs are needed following two bruising Tests against the Wallabies, but the indications from the management are that the strongest possible XV will be fielded. That rules out rotation for anything other than those players who are running on empty, which could include flankers Tom Curry and Tadhg Beirne after their lung-busting shifts in Brisbane and Melbourne. Second rower Joe McCarthy, centre Sione Tuipulotu and winger Mack Hansen all come into contention after recovering the injuries that forced them to miss the second Test. If he has fully proved his fitness by Thursday, Hansen has an especially strong chance of being involved given wingers James Lowe and Tommy Freeman have yet to impress in the series. Blair Kinghorn is also an option to start. Sheehan's excellent form will see him continue at hooker and the 26-year-old will continue to find novel ways to unlock defences after his 'superman' try from close range during the second Test. "I took the first free-kick and got absolutely melted trying to go low. Then for the second one I just thought 'if I have a dive here...'," he said. "I didn't know if they had anyone in the back. It was just a throw and hope and I slipped through. I can see all the controversy about it, but I did know that you can dive in the air if you score."
