Springfield police arrest three in cocaine, heroin operation
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were arrested in Springfield for possessing over 1,000 bags of heroin, cocaine, and illegal firearms inside a home.
Springfield man arrested after six-hour standoff on Byers Street
Over the past several weeks, the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit has been investigating the illegal distribution of heroin from an apartment on the 0-100 block of Canon Circle. A search warrant was applied for and granted for the home, with the suspects being 41-year-old Jose Mendez-Collazo of Springfield and 29-year-old Mariester Rivera of Springfield.
While Detectives were conducting surveillance on Wednesday, they observed Mendez-Collazo get into a car and leave the Canon Circle area. He then parked on the 0-100 block of Mill Street, and a woman entered the car. As she was exiting the vehicle, Detectives detained her, 38-year-old Arianna Alvarado-Torres of Springfield, and Mendez-Collazo. Heroin was found on Alvarado-Torres, and heroin and cocaine on Mendez-Collazo.
While Detectives were waiting for the search warrant to be executed at Canon Circle, Rivera was seen getting into a car and leaving the area. A traffic stop was conducted on the 500 block of Cooley Street, and Rivera was detained.
Detectives executed the search warrant, and over 20 grams of cocaine were inside the home, along with 32 grams of heroin (1,643 bags), ammunition, and three loaded firearms. One of the firearms was a rifle with a 30-round magazine. Detectives also seized nearly $25,000 in cash. Mendez-Collazo, Alvarado-Torres, and Rivera were placed under arrest.

Hatchet-wielding drug trafficker who sold fentanyl in downtown Portland sentenced
PORTLAND, Ore. () — A drug dealer active in the Portland area was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison, authorities said. Bexon Javier Calix-Rivera was 'a Honduran national unlawfully residing in Portland,' the U.S. Department of Justice said. The 21-year-old had multiple encounters and arrests with the Portland Police Bureau downtown for alleged drug dealing and other charges, stretching back to two years ago. On Thursday, Calix-Rivera was sentenced to 78 months in prison and four years of supervised release. Longview OKs 'zero-tolerance policy' for camping Following a six-count indictment by a federal grand jury in Portland on June 11, 2024, on multiple drug trafficking and gun charges, Calix-Rivera ultimately pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl earlier this year. On June 4, 2024, PPB officers saw Calix-Rivera carrying a hatchet, recognizing him from previous drug arrest encounters. He was once again engaging in 'hand-to-hand drug transactions in downtown Portland,' the U.S. DOJ said. 'Officers attempted to detain Calix-Rivera, but he fled on foot,' The U.S. DOJ said in a press release. 'When officers apprehended Calix-Rivera, they seized fentanyl powder, a firearm, and $755 in cash. PPB officers booked Calix-Rivera in the Multnomah County Jail, and he was released the same day.' Ten days prior to this arrest, PPB officers encountered Calix-Rivera in downtown Portland, detained him, and seized hundreds of fentanyl pills, fentanyl powder, and $1,492 in cash. He was arrested and later released. Before that, PPB had first encountered and arrested Calix-Rivera back in January 2023. Police officers had arrived at a pre-arranged drug deal in Portland, court records say. Officers found thousands of fentanyl pills, fentanyl powder and heroin after searching his car He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and released the next day. Female wrestling coach facing sexual assault charges
KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County former assistant wrestling coach is now behind bars facing sexual assault charges. The Wyoming Seminary coach was arraigned Friday afternoon after being accused of inappropriately touching a female wrestler. 25-year-old Nina Pham is accused of inappropriately touching a young female wrestler during a workout. Pham turned herself in to Kingston Police Friday afternoon. Former Wyoming Seminary assistant wrestling coach Nina Pham was taken to prison Friday afternoon. The 25-year-old is charged with institutional sexual assault and indecent assault of a person less than 16 years of age. According to police reports, it happened during a workout when Pham asked a young female wrestler to 'get down.' Cell phone store theft investigation moves forward Police and the criminal complaint indicate she then inappropriately touched the young girl and immediately stopped as two people entered the gym. Wyoming Seminary officials released a statement to 28/22 News: Wyoming Seminary is aware of an allegation of sexual misconduct involving a coach and has cooperated fully with authorities in the investigation. The individual was removed from campus and is no longer employed by Wyoming Seminary. To protect the privacy of those involved, we will not comment further at this time. Wyoming Seminary Director of Communications Jill Snowdon Police reports indicate Pham was hired as an assistant wrestling coach in December 2024. Owner of Billy's C's raw honey in Southwick died in Ohio crash
SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – A beekeeper from Southwick was struck and killed by a vehicle while operating farm equipment in Ohio on Wednesday. In a police report 22News obtained from the Oregon Police Department in Ohio, at around 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to Brown Road for a report of a vehicle crash. The report says that a Chevy Silverado was traveling eastbound when it struck a fork-style farm vehicle traveling in the same direction from behind. LIST: Ironman triathlon to cause weekend road closures The driver in the farm vehicle was ejected, and then it went off the road and overturned. He was taken to the St. Vincent Hospital for serious injuries, where he later died. He was identified as 35-year-old William (Billy) Crawford of Southwick, Massachusetts. Crawford is the owner of New England Apiaries on Klaus Anderson Road in Southwick and is known for Billy's C's raw honey. Bill graduated from the Hampden County Beekeepers Association Bee School and started his first beehive. In 2007, he started selling honey from a produce farm he worked at in Westfield before forming Pioneer Valley Apiary in what became New England Apiaries. The posted speed on Brown Road is 50 MPH. The report did not indicate any citations were given to the 20-year-old driver of the Silverado at this time.
