A new food establishment is opening in Taunton soon
Ionut Mihalia, aged 39, otherwise known as Jonny, has announced to the County Gazette that he will be opening a new sandwich shop after working in both Taunton Dominos branches for the last 9 years.
The new shop will open in 52 Bridge Street, Taunton, in Mid-June and is set to be called Savoury Sandwiches – although the name is still to be finalised.
This new eatery will be replacing Boba Corner which closed in December 2024 and will be offering a range of breakfast and lunch sandwiches and burgers which will be available to eat in and takeaway.

Jonny said: 'I am planning mainly breakfast and lunch items including different types of sandwiches and have done some research online and have some idea.
'Mainly it will be pulled pork, fried chicken, we'll have a vegan range and also Spanish chicken and chorizo. There will be burgers and some fries. Obviously for breakfast there will be some sausage rolls and egg baps. I am still working on the menu, but this is what I have so far.'
Jonny will be receiving the keys at the end of March and after that will focus on renovating the property through April and May.
He said: 'I am planning to change everything inside.
'I will have to do some alteration to the property, so I am hoping mid-June will be the opening. I do not have a confirmed date now.
'I am really excited; I will bring something new to Taunton. The sandwiches and all the produce I will sell - I haven't seen everywhere. I will be using different recipes that others don't use. I am really excited to be opening my own business.
'It is something to give back to the community. I want to bring something new in town and hopefully it will be a success.'

AM Best Affirms Credit Ratings of Mutua de Riesgo Maritimo, Sociedad de Seguros a Prima Fija
AMSTERDAM, August 20, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AM Best has affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of B++ (Good) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of "bbb" (Good) of Mutua de Riesgo Maritimo, Sociedad de Seguros a Prima Fija (Murimar) (Spain). The outlook of these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable. The ratings reflect Murimar's balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management (ERM). Murimar's balance sheet strength assessment of strong is supported by its strongest level of risk-adjusted capitalization at year-end 2024, as measured by Best's Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), underpinned by solid retained earnings. Murimar's balance sheet strength also factors in its small capital base, which can give rise to volatility in its risk-adjusted capitalisation. AM Best considers Murimar's operating performance to be adequate. In 2024, the mutual achieved record profits after-tax of EUR 3.3 million, and a combined ratio of 84.8%, below Murimar's five-year average of 92.4% (2020-2024) (as calculated by AM Best). Murimar is a niche insurer focused on marine hull and cargo insurance for small- to medium-sized vessels in Spain. Murimar ranks third overall in Spain's marine market and is a leader in the fishing vessel segment. In 2024, Murimar reported gross written premium (GWP) of EUR 42.1 million, of which EUR 39.4 million referred to non-life business. Distribution through Murimar's strong agency network and effective client retention aided by its mutual status supports its market position. Although concentrated in its domestic market, Murimar has started to expand internationally over the past five years. In 2024, international business represented 18% of its GWP. Hispanic businesses in Connecticut see decline in foot traffic
As the Trump administration has hardened its approach toward immigration, some businesses in Connecticut have become worried about losing their customers. A dozen employers across the state said this steep decline in sales has them wondering if they're able to stay open. Owners Irene Castelan Mendez and Marco Antonio at Las Catrinas Mexican Grocery in Enfield said they are one of these businesses. Antonio, who spoke to us in Spanish, said, 'Well I think a big part is because of the fear of the situation that you can never know. You know when you leave home, but you don't know if you come back home.' They had a successful opening in January 2022 and said they have since lost about 75% of their business with stepped up deportations. Several employers, who were afraid to go on camera, told NBC CT Investigates that like Marco, they had to learn to adapt and are delivering goods. Fanel Merville at the Center of Immigrant Development in Bridgeport said that even citizens are scared and staying home. 'They are afraid to go, to go out. I mean, I have, you know, colleagues of mine who are U.S. citizens. They afraid to travel,' Merville said. With fewer people on the streets, fewer people have been going to stores like Antonio's. 'The future is uncertain, we're just trying to survive and I think that a lot of people with businesses are in the same situation,' Antonio said. He said the business was doing great a year ago, but now, they don't know if they will make it to next month.
