EU train station which could see 594-mile train journeys from the UK
A new direct train service from St Pancras International could stretch as far as Milan in Italy, as Italy's state railway invests in services through the Channel Tunnel
An exciting new service may provide Brits with a new way to visit Italy that doesn't involve flying. Currently, the Eurostar allows Brits to travel with convenience to a few key destinations around Europe, including Paris, Lille, Brussels, Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
Italy's state railway has announced plans to run between London and Paris by 2029 as part of a €1bn (£860m) investment in services through the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone, Kent, and beyond.
Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) says it will use trains modelled after its Frecciarossa express services in continental Europe - an alternative to Eurostar.
FS raised the prospect of longer links from London, including to Marseille and Milan via Lyon. The new services are facilitated by a planned terminal redesign of London's St Pancras. London St Pancras Highspeed, the company responsible for the station, hoped a redesigned terminal could attract new railway operators to compete with Eurostar, reported the Times.
The prospective route would see trains depart from London St Pancras station to Milano Centrale - Milan's main train station. The Italian station opened in the early 1930s to replace an older, smaller station.
There are 24 tracks at Centrale, with a soaring glass and metal arched roof over the platforms. The imposing design of the building was intended to showcase the dominance of then-Prime Minister Mussolini's fascist regime, according to Italia Rail.
In addition to being one of the most grand train stations in design, Milano Centrale is the second-largest station in Italy - behind Roma Termini. In addition to being a hub for international travellers, the station offers regular daily service to cities throughout Italy. In fact, over 320,000 people pass through the station each day.
On the platform level of the station, there are shops and restaurants, as well as an information office for confused or curious travellers. There is also a Sala Freccia Club across from Track 21, for travellers with a Gold or Platinum CARTAFRECCIA card or an Executive or AV Salottino ticket. There is also a Sala Blu next to track four, for passengers with disabilities who need special assistance.
The lowest level of the station has shops and restaurants to kill time between trains. On the mezzanine and upper levels there are more shops and restaurants.
The ground level of Milano Centrale is where travellers can find a ticket office, the KiPoint left luggage facility, a post office, and most of the shops and restaurants in the station.
Travellers can also access the Centrale Metro station without leaving the building, and just outside of the train station are the boarding points for several city bus and tram lines.

The Red Arrows are expected to be northeast of Brewood at 3:34pm and will pass near Uttoxeter and Sutton-on-Trent on their way to Waddington at 3:45pm. The times could change due to the weather or other factors, according to the website whic shared the expected route and timings. This year's air show at Cosford, meanwhile, will feature an array of legendary aircraft like the American P51 Mustang, royal Air Force Chinook helicopter and F-35B Lightning fighter jet. The arrival of The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, will see the iconic Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane planes and the C-47 Dakota. Organisers of the event said the theme of the show this year is 'Commemorate, Celebrate, Innovate'. It said: 'The air show will commemorate some of our history both in terms of assets and through displays in the Victory Village; Celebrate the work of the Royal Air Force, NATO Allies and Partner nations; And seek to inspire the next generation by showcasing how the armed forces innovate together and with our Defence sector partners in the STEM Hangar.' Coins are made rare by having a low mintage, meaning only a few were printed, or by having mistakes. Currency minted with mistakes is very valuable to collectors since an exceedingly small number of coins are printed and put into circulation with errors on them. Commemorative pieces like the London Olympics coins are rare too with only a few put into circulation for a limited time. But even the Olympic coins aren't worth much more than their face value unless they have an error. The Tripoli Chamber of Commerce held virtual meetings yesterday devoted to Libya obtaining ISO certificates to allow the export of marine products directly to the European Union. Tripoli Chamber said this comes within the framework of its efforts exerted to support the export of marine products to global markets. The virtual meetings were led for the Chamber by its Chairman Anwar Abu Sitta, with the Italian interlocutor of the WestMed Blue Economy Initiative of the European Union and the 5+5 Group, Leonardo Manzari, where the meeting focused on marine activities, fisheries and marine economy. The meeting also included Masouda Abu Arousha, the national interlocutor of WestMed Organization of the European Union, and in the presence of Ali Al-Shaqrouni, Chairman of the Libyan Maritime Bloc, and Zakaria Franca, Advisor to the Libyan Italian Chamber of Commerce. The meeting was devoted to how Libya obtains ISO certificates, issued by the European Union, to allow the export of marine products directly to the European Union countries and also on the extent of the participation of Libyan companies in the projects proposed by the European Union for human development and training, and how to support small and medium enterprises for entrepreneurs specialized in this sector. Communication with concerned government agencies to be intensified The meeting agreed to intensify communication with the concerned government agencies to facilitate the process of implementing international standards to complete the conditions required by the European Union to obtain the ISO certificate that allows the export of Libyan products to Europe. This would open the way for local exporters to export to the EU directly by legal means, which contributes to raising the value and development of this vital sector to diversify the level of national income. It was noted that ISO is an international certificate of standardization that sets global standards for various industries and sectors. ISO certifications include quality, safety, efficiency, and environmental standards. Upon obtaining ISO certification, it is recognized that an individual or organization adheres to specific standards that ensure the quality of work and services.
