
Gunmen crash wedding in Provence: Bride dead, groom escapes, one attacker run over
PARIS, June 22 — Armed men opened fire at a wedding party in southeastern France early today, killing two people, including the bride, and wounding three others, said a source close to the investigation.
The attack in the village of Goult occurred around 4:30am (0230 GMT).
According to initial information, the bride and groom were leaving the party when they were confronted by masked assailants who opened fire, the source close to the investigation added.
The bride died and one of the attackers was killed, run over by the bride and groom's car as they tried to escape.
A large-scale operation involving around 100 police has been launched to find those responsible for the shooting, according to the source.
All lines of inquiry are being pursued including a possible settling of scores. — AFP

'Following intelligence gathering and public tip-off, the 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Puchong, Selangor, on June 17. Police also seized a black bag, a silver-black air pistol bearing the inscription Pietro Beretta Gardone V.T., a speed loader, and 30 ball-bearing bullets. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 23 to assist in the investigation under Section 33 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. The case is still under investigation, and he urged the public not to speculate, as it could interfere with the ongoing probe.

A police report was filed over the attack on the 16-year-old girl at 8.09pm yesterday, Bernama reported. According to Penampang police chief Sammy Newton, the report was linked to a one-minute and 34-second video clip that went viral after it was uploaded on Facebook earlier today. 'However, the case is still under investigation and efforts to track down the suspect are ongoing. 'The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries penalties of imprisonment and whipping upon conviction,' he said in a statement today. Newton urged the public not to disrupt the investigation by speculating on the assault or circulating unverified information, especially as it could compromise the rights of the victim. Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Yusof Othman said that the incident is believed to have occurred at around 11.31 am yesterday, and a 12-second video was subsequently uploaded to the 'Community Roda Johor' Facebook page. 'The white vehicle with the registration number SNT4298 was recorded driving against the traffic, endangering other road users,' he said in a statement today, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. He urged those with additional information about the incident to contact Traffic Enforcement Officer Insp Amirul Mustakim Mustaza at 017-4793329 to assist in the investigation.
