Of course, as we know all too well, the rumor pendulum can swing just as easily the other way—it's a fickle and vicious cycle—but for now, it seems like we can breathe a sigh of relief. Koné should loom large in Gasperini's midfield this year and stands every chance at cementing himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A. We'll continue to monitor this story, but lord willing, this will be the last of it.

The Giallorossi board spent the day discussing the possibility of selling the France international internally. On the one hand, a big fee for Kone would have financed some transfer business the other way, including signings of Jadon Sancho and Leon Bailey. The Gazzetta report that even Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini would have been willing to make the sale. However, the Gazzetta dello Sport report, Roma owner Dan Friedkin pulled the plug. After seeing what the fan reaction was and considering the importance of Kone to the team, he decided that Kone is not for sale this summer.
