AJK residents: Shifa International Hospital organises free medical camp
A multidisciplinary team comprising specialists in cardiology, pulmonology, general surgery, dentistry, gynaecology, paediatrics, and emergency medicine provided consultations to over 1,800 patients. Free medicines were also distributed to all attendees. The initiative aimed to offer quality medical care to remote and underserved communities in the valley, where access to specialized healthcare is challenging.
Women, children, and elderly patients were especially appreciative of this compassionate initiative, expressing deep gratitude for receiving expert medical help so close to their homes.

Alkhidmat opens 70th water filtration plant in Karachi
KARACHI: Alkhidmat Karachi has inaugurated its 70th water filtration plant in the megacity under its WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) program, marking another step toward providing clean drinking water to underserved communities. The latest facility was opened in Model Colony, an area that now hosts four filtration plants operated by the organisation. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi General Secretary Taufiquddin Siddiqui, District Airport Ameer Muhammad Ashraf, WASH Program Director Gohar-ul-Islam, and other officials. A large number of locals were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Siddiqui praised Alkhidmat's consistent efforts to provide safe and accessible drinking water, highlighting that the organisation has also completed over 1,100 bore projects in underserved neighbourhoods. Mobile water vans are additionally deployed across Karachi to distribute water at public spots, including outside hospitals and government offices. Siddiqui also called for better water conservation practices, particularly the reuse of grey-water from households and mosques for gardening or replenishing groundwater through wells and boreholes. He urged mosque committees and the public to play a proactive role in conserving water. District Ameer Muhammad Ashraf commended the initiative but stressed that the provision of clean water is a fundamental government responsibility. 'While Alkhidmat's service is exemplary, access to clean water, healthcare, and education should be guaranteed by the state,' he said. Gohar-ul-Islam, head of the WASH program, shared insights into the organization's broader water initiatives. He noted that Alkhidmat runs its own water testing laboratory to ensure quality control and said clean water provision remains central to its public health mission. He appealed to philanthropists and donors to support the scaling up of such life-saving projects across Karachi. Shifa Int'l Hospital, FDI organize workshop
ISLAMABAD: Shifa International Hospital, in collaboration with the Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI), Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination (MoNHSR&C), hosted a Strategic Workshop on Cervical Cancer-Free Pakistan at its premises in Islamabad aimed to mobilize senior expertise of Shifa International Hospital for Pakistan's HPV vaccine campaign. By preventing HPV infections, the vaccine offers a powerful shield against cervical cancer, safeguarding women's health for the future. The workshop brought together over 100 healthcare professionals from gynaecology, paediatrics, internal medicine, infectious diseases, and research. Representatives from WHO, UNICEF, GAVI, the Gates Foundation, DHO Islamabad, and the EPI team also participated. Speaking as Chief Guest, Dr. Soofia Yunus, Director General FDI, stressed the importance of community ownership in immunization campaigns. She thanked Shifa's leadership Dr. Zeeshan Bin Ishtiaque (CEO), Dr. Aamer Nazir (Medical Director), Dr. Shazia Fakhar, Dr. Ejaz Khan, and Dr. Khadeeja Azhar for their collaboration, calling the public-private partnership a strong step toward national health goals. Thousands of people visit hospitals during & after Eid holidays
LAHORE: Thousands of people with complaints of food-poisoning and abdominal pain brought to different city hospitals during and after the Eid days. As per reports, around 2,500 people were brought to Jinnah Hospital, about 2000 to Mayo Hospital, around 1500 to Services Hospital, about 1000 to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and about 3000 to LGH with complaints of stomach pain, heartburn, stomach irritation and high blood pressure. Most of the patients were discharged after providing medical treatment while a few who were critical were admitted to the hospitals. A number of cases of gastroenteritis were also reported at Lahore division's other health facilities, including Government Shahdara Hospital, Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital and Government Mozang Hospital. The emergency wards of the city's major hospitals are witnessing increased number of gastroenteritis patients. Health experts advised the people to drink clean water, eat healthy food and avoid going outdoors during the ongoing hot season. Sources in the Punjab Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Department stated that the number of patients of gastrointestinal disease in the city had surged during the last four days. A similar situation was reported from several other cities of Punjab, including Multan, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Rawalpindi, the sources added. It may be added that there is tradition that on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, families and friends hold gatherings, enjoy eating meat of the sacrificed animals and other foods, ignoring precautionary measures and falling ill as a result of overeating. Every year, emergency situation erupts at hospitals and thousands of people are admitted with gastrointestinal issues. As per the direction of CM Punjab, as many as 10,033 patients were provided with the free medical facilities in the General Hospital Emergency Department without any interruption and without any slip fees during the four holidays of Eid-ul-Azha. While 2,047 X-rays, 621 ultrasounds and 513 CT scans of patients were performed. Amiruddin Medical College Principal Prof Dr Muhammad Farooq Afzal and MS LGH Dr Faryad Hussain said that under the guidance of Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education department Khawaja Salman Rafique, health professionals are alert to provide quality medical facilities to patients and they will continue to fulfil their professional responsibilities in the future as well. MS Dr Faryad Hussain stated that free dialysis was done for patients suffering from kidney diseases treatment were also ongoing in the women and children departments. Prof Farooq Afzal urged the doctors to continue to raise awareness among the citizens about prevention of infectious diseases along with treatment so that the public can protect themselves by taking precautionary measures.
