First look at Teresa Palmer's new Aussie drama Mix Tape after series receives coveted award at festival
What if you had a second chance at your first love?
That's the question the new Australian series Mix Tape will leave you asking when it premieres on BINGE on June 12.
Beloved Aussie actress Teresa Palmer and Irish actor Jim Sturgess and star in the romantic drama, playing former 80s high school sweethearts Alison and Daniel who are now living in different countries but reconnect in the modern world through a song from their shared past.
On Tuesday, BINGE released the highly anticipated first trailer for the four-part miniseries, which generated buzz back in March at the SXSW Film and TV Festival in Texas, when it won the coveted Audience Award in the TV Spotlight category.
It is a story about love and loss, family and friendship, and the power of music – and resonated strongly with viewers at the festival.
'To have had Mix Tape even selected to premiere at South by Southwest was massive,' Palmer, 39, tells news.com.au. 'I was hearing rumours of it, maybe this was happening. Then when we found out that we got into South by Southwest – that was just a huge accomplishment.'
'And then to find out we won the Audience Award, which is the award that you want because we know that it resonates with an audience, it's huge. It's truly exciting.'
Stream Mix Tape from June 12 on BINGE, available on Hubbl.
Julia Savage, who plays Palmer's on-screen daughter Stella, is just as excited for the win and can't wait to showcase Australia to the world.
'I'm so privileged and so lucky and grateful to be part of it because I think Aussies have some cool stuff going on,' 18-year-old Savage – who was nominated for Best Lead Actress at the 2022 AACTAs for her stellar performance in the psychological drama Blaze – tells news.com.au.
'We make great project and it's really cool to be being part of these other great projects in Australia and be able to really show how our film industry works and what we can do when we are given the chance.'
In the trailer, viewers get a first look at Palmer in character as Alison, a lovestruck teen who is madly in love with Daniel – a boy who makes Alison her first ever mix tape.
Years and distance inevitably come between them, but a pivotal moment occurs and they once again reconnect, with a certain song evoking memories and making them wonder if they were meant to be.
The BINGE Original Series began production in May 2024 with filming taking place at various locations across Sydney and Ireland, where the cast filmed some flashback scenes for the series.
The four-part miniseries is adapted by Irish writer Jo Spain from the critically acclaimed novel of the same name by Jane Sanderson and directed by Australian director Lucy Gaffy.
'We are incredibly proud of this award-winning series with its acclaimed international cast, rich sense of nostalgia and incredible soundtrack, viewers will be drawn into a world they won't want to leave,' Lana Greenhalgh, Head of Scripted Originals, Foxtel Group said in a statement.
'Subotica and Aquarius Films have taken international storytelling to another dimension that will transport viewers back in time to that intoxicating feeling of first love and we can't wait to share it with the world.'

Meghan Markle twerks to induce labour in new video for daughter's birthday
The Duchess of Sussex has shared a tip for soon-to-be mums in an intimate family video celebrating her daughter's fourth birthday. Meghan Markle, 43, reflected on the day of Princess Lilibet's birth with a sweet video of her and Prince Harry in the hospital waiting for labour to begin. The duchess said that after spicy food, walking, and acupuncture "didn't work", she turned to twerking in the hospital room a week after the Princess' due date. "There was only one thing left to do," Meghan said in a post to social media. Princess Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021, and was the second child of Harry and Meghan to be born a week past their due date, after Prince Archie was born on May 6, 2019. The mother of two also shared candid snaps of Lilibet. "Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today, she came into our lives - and each day is brighter and better because of it," the duchess said. "Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day," she said. It comes as Harry and Meghan explored the idea of changing their family name to Spencer amid months of delays in their children receiving passports from the United Kingdom, the Guardian newspaper reports. Harry, the Duke of Sussex, believed that the passport delays were the result of UK officials blocking the applications over the use of the Sussex surname and HRH titles (his or her royal highness) for his children, the newspaper said, citing an unnamed source. The source also said other media reports which said Spencer had advised Harry against changing his surname and that the legal hurdles to doing so were insurmountable, were inaccurate. Harry, the younger son of King Charles, stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, where he lives with Meghan and their two children Archie and Lilibet. Since leaving, he and Meghan have been highly critical of the royals in TV documentaries, an explosive interview with US chat show host Oprah Winfrey and most notably in Harry's best-selling biography Spare. The prince is barely on speaking terms with either his father or his elder brother, heir to the throne Prince William. In a BBC interview last month, Harry said he wanted reconciliation with the royal family but that his father King Charles will not speak to him over a separate row about his security. 'It's a huge opportunity': Aussie pub featured in hit Netflix crime documentary series Last Stop Larrimah up for sale
A notorious Aussie pub which features as the centrepiece location in the hit Netflix series Last Stop Larrimah has hit the market with a substantial price tag. The Larrimah Hotel, in the Northern Territory, is currently up for sale following the immensely popular two-part series hitting the streaming service in 2023. The hotel is located off the Stuart Highway about 534 kilometre south of Darwin. The number 8 Mahoney Street property is listed on Domain for $795,000 due to the owners seeking to retire. Last Stop Larrimah documents the mysterious disappearance of one of the tiny outback town's residents, Paddy Moriarty, who vanished into thin air revealing a long history of disputes among Larrimah's 11 inhabitants. The posting boasts 21 bedrooms and 18 bathrooms, and is touted as being 'everything you expect and want' in a 'true blue' Aussie bush pub. The real estate agent Warren Andrews said 'you have to see it to believe it' as the infamous hotel features an 'endless collection of eclectic 'bits & bobs''. 'From the Pink Panther(s), to the giant Draught Stubbie, to resident Emu's & Crocodiles, this pub is steeped in History & Mystique,' Mr Andrews said in the property listing. Steve Baldwin, the current owner who bought the pub in 2018, and knew Mr Moriarty, said the town had 'never been in the market' for receiving visitors. 'It's always been passing trade,' he said. 'It was pretty run down. We've spent most of the time cleaning it up… It's 80 per cent renovated – the house. Built as staff accommodation. 'As of Wednesday night, we now have tap beer on. That's the first time in 30 years.' In another first for the historic pub, pool tables have also been put in. Domain said Mr Andrews had received interest from potential buyers from across Australia. 'There has been a little bit of Territory interest and interest from Perth and in Queensland,' he said. The pub owner said the almost four metre crocodile named Agro and the two emus, Elise and Elliot, will stay at the property. 'It's a huge opportunity. The pub isn't expensive. With what's going on in the place… it's going to do very well in the future,' he said. 'The potential buyers are corporates who might want accommodation and food or a young couple with a lot of energy and go and they could do extremely well.'
