Residents of Cluainín housing estate in Listowel endured a terrifying ordeal on Monday evening after a man in his 30s drove a JCB loading shovel recklessly at property while threatening gardaí.
The Kerryman understands that Listowel gardaí received reports about 11pm on Monday of a male on his way to Listowel from the west Limerick area as part of a dispute.
The guards immediately rushed to intercept the man but were shocked to discover him driving the JCB vehicle through the estate while shouting and roaring at residents.

At one stage, he drove the vehicle at a house, knocking down a concrete pillar and front gate. The man also threatened to ram the garda car while dropping the giant dumper bucket several times to the ground in front of the vehicle.
It's reported the man threatened to shoot the guards with a firearm, despite not having one. No one was hurt during the incident.
The individual was later arrested in the west Limerick area by the Garda Armed Support Unit and gardaí from the Listowel and Newcastle West stations. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984

Gardaí seize 39 electric scooters as part of operation targeting vehicles used in criminal activity
Thirty-nine electric scooters, 14 electric bikes and six quad bikes were seized by gardaí in Dublin during an operation targeting vehicles suspected of being used in criminal activity. A total of 40 searches were conducted as part of the initiative, which began at 7am on Tuesday and aimed to tackle the use of electric motorbikes for 'serious offences'. These include drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms and drug-related intimidation, An Garda Síochána said. The operation was led by gardaí attached to units in Tallaght, Crumlin and Terenure, who were assisted by the Garda Armed Support Unit. Man, 30s, arrested after JCB driven into wall of Kerry home
A man has been arrested after a JCB was driven into the wall of a home in Kerry. Gardaí were rushed to the scene of the criminal damage incident in Listowel at around 11.30pm on Monday night after reports that a "loader shovel vehicle" had been driven into the perimeter wall of a house. One man, aged in his 30s, was arrested following the shocking incident and is currently being detained at Listowel Garda Station. Gardaí confirmed there were no injuries following the incident, and that investigations are ongoing. A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí attended the scene of an incident of criminal damage that occurred in Listowel, Co. Kerry on Monday, 16 June, 2025 at approximately 11:30 pm. "A loader shovel vehicle was driven into the perimeter wall of a domestic residence. There were no injuries reported.
