3 in court after Wakkerstroom police uncover 93kg of dagga
Three men appeared in the Volksrust District Court yesterday, facing charges of dealing in drugs after they were found in possession of 93kg of marijuana.
According to Ridge Times, Nhlakanipho Khumalo (30), Ernest Zondo (39) and Zephrid Hlongwane (36) were arrested by police in Wakkerstroom, Mpumalanga, in the early hours of the morning.
During a routine stop-and-search operation, the trio were stopped in their silver Toyota Corolla. Police discovered four large bags of marijuana inside the vehicle.
The 93kg haul is estimated to have a street value of R558 000.
The Volksrust District Court ruled that the suspects remain in custody until their next appearance on Wednesday.

Image: Google Two men accused of the attempted murder of South African Revenue Service (SARS) advocate Coreth Naudé SC are set to make their first appearance in the Durban High Court on August 28 after they were served with indictments on Friday morning. Siyanda Emmanuel Mbulwana, 29, and Mcebisi Corlen Runeyi, 28, are alleged to have shot Naudé in the face and neck at the entrance of the Premier Hotel in uMhlanga on July 18, 2024. The State alleges that while Naudé was driving to the hotel, she was ambushed by two armed men who opened fire on her. However, she managed to drive inside the hotel, where she received medical attention before being rushed to the hospital. The suspects fled the scene in a silver Toyota Corolla. Image: Nomonde Zondi The advocate had come to Durban on behalf of SARS for the tax inquiry concerning the tax affairs of Andile Mpisane and 13 others. Mpisane is the son of Durban's controversial businesswoman Shauwn 'MaMkhize' Mkhize. The pair was arrested in December last year in Cape Town, and they are currently in custody after the Durban Magistrate's Court denied them bail. During their bail application, the investigating Warrant Officer Praved Maharaj said the attempted murder of Naudé was carried out brazenly, and the men used no form of disguise. He said the duo had no consideration for the public. 'There was a security guard present when the shooting occurred, and he had to flee for his life,' Maharaj said. According to the police officer, the State has a prima facie case against the duo. Maharaj said that in 2016, Mbulwana was convicted of assault and is currently facing charges of unlawful firearm possession. Additionally, Runeyi is said to have a warrant of arrest for two cases, one for theft of a motor vehicle and one for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Nine arrested, four bakkies seized after looting of maize truck
Nine people were arrested for looting a maize truck that overturned on the N5 on its way to the Durban Harbour. Additionally, four bakkies that were used to load the maize meal were seized. The police were summoned to the scene where they discovered several community members looting and loading maize into the bakkies. Following the incident, more vehicles kept arriving at the scene and unlawfully removed the maize cargo. The Harrismith Public Order Police Unit arrested the nine suspects, aged 30 to 63, in possession of suspected stolen property. The four bakkies were loaded with maize estimated to be worth R90 000. Two police officers have been arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe from a liquor store in Harrismith, Free State. According to a police statement, the police officers visited the liquor store in March 2025 and presented themselves as officials from Bloemfontein. They claimed that they were conducting an inspection to verify the authenticity of the liquor being sold. After completing their inspection, the police officers allegedly demanded a R5000 bribe from the liquor store owner. The owner said that she only had R2 500, which the officers accepted. The Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit arrested the two suspects, aged 44 and 45 respectively, who are from Bethlehem Public Order Policing Unit. Captain Loraine Earle confirmed with The South African that the suspects appeared at the Harrismith Magistrate's Court today and their case was postponed to 18 June 2025 for them to apply for bail. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in the Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, said that they will continue their fight against crime, even if SAPS members are involved.' 'We will continue to fight corruption relentlessly. If those involved are from within our own ranks, we will not hesitate to take decisive action. UPDATE: Three policemen appear in court for allegedly escorting vehicle transporting dagga The three Flying Squad cops, Sergeant Solomon Mebo (49), Sergeant Jabulane Mbuyane (43) and Constable Lavandre LaReservee (32), who were arrested yesterday for allegedly escorting a vehicle transporting dagga on the N4, appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court today. They they were charged with defeating the ends of justice. They were granted bail of R1 500 each. Their next court appearance is scheduled for July 25. Other related charges could be added as the investigation progresses.
