Former Swansea City favourite Wilfried Bony says Luka Modric's recent investment is 'a big step for the club'.
Bony, who scored 39 goals in 96 appearances across two spells with the Swans, believes the legendary midfielder's involvement could help steer the club back towards the Premier League.

Modric has purchased a minority stake in the Swans, in a move that created headlines around the world, although the extent of his involvement in the day-to-day running of the club isn't yet clear. Sign up to our Swansea City newsletter here

Indeed, his primary focus is likely to remain Real Madrid, where he's hoping to earn a contract extension that will see him carry on his playing career beyond his 40th birthday.
But Bony believes that once the Ballon d'Or winner has called time on his playing career, he could well ramp up his involvement with the Swans.
"Luka Modric's involvement with Swansea is a big step for the club," Bony told Ladbrokes. "It's a big step because of his professionalism, because of his views, because of his focus on the football side of the business.

"I'm sure that he can help bring Swansea back to the Premier League when he retires because that's when he'll put more time into the club because while he's playing, he'll be focused of Real Madrid.
"But when he stops, he's going to be more focused on the club and changing a lot of things through the connections he's got. So I'm sure that he can bring Swansea to the level where Swansea belong."
Bony believes having Modric's name connected to the club will bring commercial opportunities, and also help attract new players.

"It's not just good to have him from the business side but also because players will see at as more of a destination if a legend like Luka Modric is involved. It is like that because when you see Cristiano Ronaldo go to Saudi Arabia, a lot of players also wanted to go there because if it goes there, something must be good. Otherwise, why would he decide to go there?
"So in terms of the general model for the club, a lot of players might think that, in the next few years, Swansea is a club that has got the facilities and capacity to grow."

As Real Madrid's most decorated player of all time, Modric has spent most of his incredible career at the top of the game, and Bony believes those experiences could prove useful in the boardroom.
"They just really need some people at the top to change the way of working," he added. "And I'm sure that his experience from Real Madrid will help Swansea. It's a big gap between them, so he will have knowledge they don't.
"So with that experience he has, he can bring the team to the top. It's good for the people of Swansea, it's good for the club and also for the country."

'I always practise that' - Bellingham fuels Jude comparisons with first Dortmund goal

Jobe Bellingham already knew the comparisons to big brother Jude were inevitable, especially after scoring on his first start for Borussia years, nine months and one week after Jude scored on his first start for the black and yellow - a 5-0 win in the German Cup - Jobe scored on his first 19-year-old scored 45 minutes into his full debut - a 4-3 defeat of Mamelodi Sundowns in the Club World Cup - 15 minutes longer than it took Jude against Duisburg back in September went on to score 24 goals in 132 games for Dortmund before joining Real Madrid in 2023, and Jobe certainly showed signs of his sibling's nack of arriving late in the box to goal in Cincinnati showed anticipation and poise, agility and ruthlessness. After timing his run perfectly, Jobe cushioned the ball away from his marker before firing past the goalkeeper, albeit with the help of a slight capped a fine display on his full debut, and by his own admission, it's something the former Sunderland midfielder has been working on. "It's a really nice bonus. I am glad we won but there are still a lot of things for me to improve on personally and for the team. I am really pleased with it," Bellingham told Dazn."I practise that so many times, not that exact finish, but arriving late on the edge of the box as a midfielder is something you need to be really good at."If you can score, if you can contribute those kind of goals a certain amount per season then you are doing really well. "I was really pleased because it was something I practised as a kid and at Sunderland so many times, during training, after training. So yeah, I am really proud of it." Comparisons to Jude are no doubt tiring for Jobe, but there is a reason they are fact, the timing of his runs into the penalty area are reminiscent of another English midfielder."It's easy sometimes as a midfielder to just pass the ball then stand still," former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel told Dazn. "But no, he wants to arrive late in the box. He wants to be there when the ball drops."He reminds me of a certain player I played with, Frank Lampard. 20-odd goals every season by being there and arriving at the right time. I think he's going to score a lot of goals for Dortmund."What I like about him is he's very direct. Once he has the ball he's looking up, he's passing forwards, running forwards. He wants to arrive at the box at the right time, and that's exactly what he did. "The chest control and the volley - he wouldn't have scored this goal if he hadn't passed and then run forwards."Former Italy and Inter Milan forward Christian Vieri said: "He's going to score a lot of goals because he's always going towards the goal - he looks like his brother, the movements are exactly the same."Should Dortmund and Real Madrid both win their respective Club World Cup groups and win in the last 16, then the Bellingham brothers would face each other in a quater-final clash in New Jersey.

Alexander Isak's stance on Liverpool transfer revealed with huge new fee set

Liverpool have not made any approach to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United with the striker not expected to demand an exit this summer. The Premier League champions have moved swiftly and decisively in the summer transfer window, immediately bringing in a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in Jeremie Frimpong with Milos Kerkez expected to arrive from Bournemouth. Florian Wirtz sealed his move to Anfield on Friday night in the biggest deal in Premier League history, arriving for a fee that could rise to £116million. Liverpool's spending might not end there. With Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez possibly leaving Merseyside, a centre forward to lead Arne Slot's attack could be sought. His side have been linked with a sensational move for Isak, whose current contract at St James' Park expires in 2028. But despite growing speculation, the Daily Telegraph report Isak is settled on Tyneside and is not agitating for a move away this summer. There is no expectation that situation will change in the coming months with Newcastle under no pressure from profitability and sustainability rules to sell anyone as things currently stand. Arsenal are long-term admirers of the Sweden international but have given up hope of luring him to the Emirates after being quoted at least £150million last year. The report suggests Newcastle's valuation has only grown, claiming it would take a fee closer to £200m to prise him away – one close to the price Paris Saint-Germain paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona eight years ago. Liverpool have made no contact with Newcastle at this stage – not even an informal enquiry. Isak scored 23 Premier League goals and 27 in all competitions as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup secured Champions League qualification last season. More Trending With European football back on the menu, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer is convinced his side's leading man is going nowhere. 'Got to keep him and they will, I'm pretty certain of that,' Shearer said on The Rest is Football. 'Because of their success this year, because they've got Champions League football, all of those things. 'There's not a worry in my mind that he's going anywhere. He'll be a Newcastle player next season because he's a very, very, very good player.' Marcus Rashford issues Barcelona come-and-get-me plea in clear hint over future

Marcus Rashford has been tight-lipped on his uncertain future so far this summer but now the Manchester United star has broken his silence, hinting at a dream move to Barcelona Marcus Rashford has dropped his biggest hint yet that he wants to join Barcelona. The Manchester United star, 27, appears to have no future at Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim and being loaned out for the second half of last season. Rashford's brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, was seen meeting Barca sporting director Deco in Catalunya last month. The England international joined Aston Villa on loan in January but the Premier League club look to have seemingly decided against exercising their option to sign him for £40million. ‌ That's the fee which United are continuing to hold out for and if no buyer is found, he'll return to United for pre-season training and their subsequent tour of the United States. But if Barcelona can work out a deal, Rashford has already given them the green light. ‌ Speaking while on holiday in Marbella, Rashford was asked by Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer whether he wants to play with Barca wonderkid Lamine Yamal in the future. "Yeah, sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best," the forward replied. "So hopefully, we'll see..." Continuing to praise Yamal, Rashford said: (Yamal) is gonna be… it's difficult to put into words what he's doing because he's not supposed to be doing it at 16, 17. He's playing at the highest level, I don't think we've seen it. To have his mentality is a skill. "He's not normal to be doing what he does and he will keep improving. (The Ballon d'Or) If you look at it in football ability he has to win, but then you look at Ousmane Dembele, the Champions League." The 27-year-old then sent a message to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, suggesting that he can be Robert Lewandowski's long-term successor up front. "For me as I've got older, the No.9 position is becoming more comfortable, more natural," Rashford added. Would Marcus Rashford be a success at Barcelona? Give us your prediction in the comments section. ‌ Barca fans will also be take note of his comments about life in Spain. "Spain is nice, it's not too far from home," he continued. "If I'm training over a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather." Rashford also revealed how he looked up to former Barcelona forward Thierry Henry during his childhood. He explained: "Henry was comfortable playing off the left and in the middle, he's free flowing. When I was young I always enjoyed watching clips of him." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football.
