Boca Juniors stumble in Clausura opener with goalless draw
The home side set the tone early on by testing Boca's keeper Agustin Marchesin with a Tomas Molina header, and they kept up the pressure throughout the first half with attempts from Emiliano Viveros and Federico Fattori that kept Marchesin busy.
After the break, Boca Juniors came close to opening the scoring when Miguel Merentiel unleashed a shot from the left side of the box, but Argentinos Juniors' goalkeeper Diego Rodriguez thwarted him.
Both sides shared a point from their opening clash, with Boca left to rue what was expected to be a statement performance following their disappointing Club World Cup exit in the group stage last month.

Brentford submit £35m bid for Ipswich star Omari Hutchinson - with former Chelsea youngster keen on move amid interest from two other Premier League clubs
Brentford have bid £35million for Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson, who is thought to be keen on the move. As first revealed by Mail Sport on Wednesday, the Bees have identified Hutchinson as the ideal man to supplement their attack, especially as at least one of star forwards Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa could leave before the summer transfer window closes. Everton are also interested in Hutchinson and there is a chance Nottingham Forest may enter the race. Forest lost Anthony Elanga to Newcastle last week and remain in dispute with Tottenham, who thought they had triggered Morgan Gibbs-White 's £60m release clause but have yet to finalise the deal for the attacking midfielder, amid fury at the City Ground. Brentford's move for Hutchinson happens in the week they signed former Liverpool and sometime England captain Jordan Henderson. Henderson, described by Bees boss Keith Andrews as 'one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years' will fill the void left by the loss of their captain and first-choice defensive-midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal last week. 'I've always had huge admiration for the club,' said the 35-year-old. 'And what they've achieved over the last few years, in particular, how they've grown as a club.' Henderson, who has agreed a two year contract, also spoke highly of new boss Andrews as he embarks on his first head coaching role. 'When I spoke to Keith a few times, he was very good and very honest, and he's excited to get started as well,' Henderson added.

'Ekitike is versatile and smart'
Newcastle's interest in Hugo Ekitike goes back to January 2022, the first transfer window with their Saudi Arabian then they were unable to make a deal work and in the summer they ultimately chose Alexander Isak the admiration has remained for a player who started at Reims and left for Paris St-Germain in 2023 but failed to make an impact and had a spell on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt before joining the Bundesliga club permanently last summer."His tactical understanding is one of his great strengths," German football writer Constantin Eckner told BBC Sport."He served as a lone striker as well as part of a two-striker set-up under Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller."During the first half of last season, Ekitike and Omar Marmoush formed a fearsome strike pairing which was torn apart when Manchester City signed Marmoush for £63m in January."Subsequently, Frankfurt did not acquire a replacement for Marmoush and instead changed the tactical set-up, with Ekitike the lone striker."He is versatile and not just a striker who feels at home inside the box. Ekitike might not be the most dynamic player, but he can get past defenders with smart moves."Eckner also said Frankfurt's sporting director Markus Krosche has stated the club will not let Ekitike go for less than £ added: "It seems as if the Bundesliga side are fine with selling yet another top player to a Premier League club."Their current model is that they find these gems, try to develop them and then fund their next signings through the money they generate."Read more on Ekitike here
