As India gear up for their five-match Test series against England, a wholesome moment between two rising stars – Sai Sudharsan and
Washington Sundar
– has caught the attention of fans.
In a video posted by the
BCCI
, Sai Sudharsan opened up about the profound influence Washington Sundar has had on his cricketing journey. Reflecting on their shared roots in Chennai, Sai recalled,
'I've played a few games against him, and it's always been special. I've looked up to him a lot. The way he rose quickly and played for India really inspired me. Watching him do well in the
IPL
and then represent the country made me feel like I wanted to follow the same path.'

'He's told me that quite a few times. A lot of my friends and coaches have spoken about his growth. Every year, he's just gotten better. His work ethic and skill set have been inspirational – not just for Chennai kids, but many others around the world.'

IND Vs ENG 2025: Meet India's 18-Man Test Squad Led By Shubman Gill

Curated By : Last Updated: June 16, 2025, 13:38 IST India will play five Tests during the tour. (Image Credit: BCCI) A new era dawns for the Indian men's Test cricket team. With the retirement of stalwarts Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Rohit Sharma, a young 18-man squad led by Shubman Gill aims to become only the fourth touring party from India to win a Test series on English soil. In their 19 previous tours of England, India have secured three series victories – in 1971, 1986, and 2007 – and two drawn series – in 2002 and 2021. The remaining 14 tours have ended in defeat. These statistics underscore the considerable challenge awaiting this relatively young and inexperienced squad. High on Promise, Low on Experience The combined Test experience of Kohli, Ashwin, and Rohit totalled a remarkable 296 matches. In contrast, the 18 members of the current squad have played a combined 371 Tests, with 258 of those appearances concentrated among just five players. Of the remaining 13, three are yet to make their Test debut. The tour's greatest challenge will be for the Indian batsmen, who must adjust to swinging conditions after two months of T20 cricket. Playing close to the body and resisting the temptation to chase deliveries outside the off stump will be crucial. India's batting will revolve around Rahul, Pant, Gill, and Jaiswal. Attention will also be focused on Karun Nair, who is poised to make his international return after a long absence. The bowlers will need to focus on bowling a driving length to encourage batsmen to drive, thereby increasing the chances of inducing an edge. This is easier said than done, particularly as the pacemen have become accustomed to bowling shorter lengths on the flatter pitches used in the Indian Premier League. Jasprit Bumrah remains the spearhead of the pace attack. However, given his anticipated absence for at least two Tests, others, particularly Mohammed Siraj, will need to step up and lead the attack when required. World archery championships: Dhiraj, Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and compound archer V. Jyothi to compete

Reigning compound individual World champions Ojas Deotale and Aditi Swami, Asian Games silver medallist Abhishek Verma and Olympian recurve archers Atanu Das and Bhajan Kaur have missed out on berths in the Indian team for the World archery championships, to be held in Gwangju, South Korea, from September 5 to 12. Paris Olympians B. Dhiraj, Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat and multiple Worlds medallist compound archer V. Jyothi Surekha were among those who finished inside the top three in the selection trials held at the Army Sports Institute, Pune. The country can field a maximum of three archers in each category. Youngsters Neeraj Chauhan (who beat Dhiraj in the elimination stage), Rahul and Gatha Khadake (who saw off Bhajan in elimination) gave impressive performances through the multi-format trials to earn coveted slots. Archers finishing fourth in the trials will join the top three for the World Cup Stage-4 in Madrid from July 8 to 13. It is learnt that in case a top-three archer's performance drops drastically in Madrid, the Archery Association of India (AAI) may consider replacing him/her with the fourth-placed athlete in that particular category for the World championships. A final decision on this is awaited. Top-four archers: Recurve: Men: 1. B. Dhiraj, 2. Neeraj Chauhan, 3. Rahul, 4. Tarundeep Rai; Women: 1. Deepika Kumari, 2. Ankita Bhakat, 3. Gatha Khadake, 4. Sharvari Shende. Compound: Men: 1. Aman Saini, 2. Prathamesh Fuge, 3. Rishabh Yadav, 4. Priyansh; Women: 1. V. Jyothi Surekha, 2. Parneet Kaur, 3. Prithika Pradeep, 4. Taniparthi Chikitha.
