Wimbledon champion Krejcikova out of Eastbourne with injury
EASTBOURNE, England - Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova has suffered an injury scare after being forced to withdraw from the Eastbourne tournament on Thursday because of a thigh issue.
The Czech player had reached the quarter-finals at Devonshire Park after saving match points in victories over British players Harriet Dart and Jodie Burrage.
"I'm very sorry to have to withdraw from my QF today in Eastbourne as I'm having some soreness in my right thigh," the 29-year-old Krejcikova said on social media.
"I've truly enjoyed my time down here the past week and loved being back on the grass."
Krejcikova looked to be moving okay against Burrage but with the defence of her Wimbledon crown beginning on Tuesday she has taken the decision to fully recover.
Her withdrawal means French qualifier Varvara Gracheva is in the semi-finals. REUTERS

Gasly jokes he might head for Hollywood if Alpine stay last
Formula One F1 - Austrian Grand Prix - Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria - June 26, 2025 Alpine's Pierre Gasly during the press conferencei ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix REUTERS/Gintare Karpaviciute Gasly jokes he might head for Hollywood if Alpine stay last SPIELBERG, Austria - French Formula One driver Pierre Gasly responded to Brad Pitt praising his acting potential by joking he might have to head for Hollywood if Alpine stayed last in the championship. Pitt, star of the movie 'F1' released this week, was asked at a recent New York premiere which drivers might have a future in Hollywood. "I'm going to give Carlos Sainz, he's definite, I'm going to say Pierre Gasly. Yes, I think he's got a feel for it," he told ABC television. "And of course Lewis (Hamilton) can do anything." Gasly told reporters at the Austrian Grand Prix that Pitt's comments had delighted his mother. "I must say it clearly made my mom pretty happy. She was very pleased to be the first one in the family group chat to send it to all the family," he said. "So yeah, let's see how the season goes, but hopefully we score a few more points. Otherwise, you might see me in Hollywood." Gasly, who has so far scored all of Alpine's 11 points with the team in some turmoil after the departure of principal Oliver Oakes and resignation of Renault boss Luca de Meo, said he had no acting past. "I think it's just the French side of me. I can play a French lover or something like that," he said. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

Inter Milan secure 350 million euro financing to ease debt burden
FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Serie A - Inter Milan v Lazio - San Siro, Milan, Italy - May 18, 2025 General view inside the stadium before the match REUTERS/Massimo Pinca/File Photo MILAN - Inter Milan have secured 350 million euro ($411 million) financing through a U.S. private placement of senior secured notes maturing in 2030, needed to repay early a high-yield bond due in 2027, the Champions League finalists said on Thursday. The notes, placed with institutional investors, were issued through Inter Milan's media company, which manages the broadcast and sponsorship business of the Serie A club. Last year U.S. investment fund Oaktree Capital Management took over Inter after the club's Chinese majority shareholder missed a 395 million euro payment. The club said that the debt reshuffle would improve its financial position. "Compared to the previous bond, the lower amount and tighter cost of capital achieved for the private placement represent another step in Oaktree's commitment to the long-term success and financial stability of the club," it said in a statement published on its website. Earlier this month the club had anticipated it planned to redeem the bond. Inter have progressed to the knockout stage of the Club World Cup being played in the US. They lost 5-0 to Paris St Germain in the European Champions League final last month. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

F1 leader Piastri will not seek preferential treatment
Formula One F1 - Austrian Grand Prix - Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria - June 26, 2025 McLaren's Oscar Piastri during the press conference ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix REUTERS/Gintare Karpaviciute SPIELBERG, Austria - Formula One leader Oscar Piastri said he would not seek preferential treatment in the title battle with McLaren teammate Lando Norris and the pair will continue to race freely after a collision in Canada two weeks ago. The Australian is 22 points clear of Norris after winning five of the 10 races so far, with 14 remaining including Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix. Norris failed to score in Montreal after running into the back of Piastri's car while trying to pass for fourth place late in the race. Piastri said he and Norris, who accepted blame, had cleared the air already after the race and there were no changes to the rules of engagement. "We're still free to race, still fighting for a championship each. So, no, keep going racing and make sure that we don't come into contact again," he said on Thursday of the outcome of talks after Canada. Asked about his "healthy" lead and whether he might seek preferential treatment, Piastri questioned the reporter's take on the situation. "Your version of healthy is much bigger than mine," he said. "I just want, and we all want, a fair opportunity trying to win both championships. Especially in the Drivers' Championship because ultimately it can only be one of us. "I think the situation has to change dramatically to start having those conversations, and they're a very long way away at the moment. "So at the moment, all I can ask for is a fair chance to try and win the championship, and that's what I want as well. No, I'm not willing to enter those talks at all." McLaren have won seven of the 10 races, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen taking two and Mercedes George Russell triumphant in Canada. Despite McLaren's success, and 175-point lead over Mercedes in the constructors' standings, Piastri is only 43 clear of Verstappen in third place. Canada was the first race this season without a McLaren driver on the front row or podium but Piastri sounded confident that they would be stronger in Austria. "I think we kind of understand what went wrong in Canada. So, we'll try and have a better weekend here, but I'm confident we'll be back on top form," he said.
