Article content
MONTREAL — NuORDER by Lightspeed, a leading global commerce platform that enables retailers and brands to connect, collaborate, and make smarter buying decisions, today announced the launch of Order Trends, a cutting-edge feature that delivers visibility into top-performing products, categories, colors, and size curves—right within the NuORDER shopping experience. This innovation empowers retailers and buyers to make smarter assortment decisions, while helping brands drive product visibility, conversion, and revenue.
Article content
By surfacing aggregated data from submitted USD orders across the platform, the new features reveal what top-performing products other retailers are buying—including details like category, size, and color—making it easier for buyers to stock confidently, discover new styles, and reduce risk. This gives buyers a competitive advantage: the ability to back purchases with real-world performance insights rather than relying on gut instinct alone.
Article content
Early results already demonstrate its value: in 76 days, participating brands saw approximately a 10% increase in average order value (AOV)¹. These results reinforce NuORDER's leadership in ushering in a new era of insight-led commerce, where decisions are powered by data, not guesswork.
Article content
'Order Trends brings the 'science' to the art of buying,' said Chris Akrimi, General Manager of B2B at NuORDER by Lightspeed. 'By giving both brands and retailers insight into what's selling across our B2B platform, we're making wholesale buying more intelligent, more efficient, and more profitable.'
Article content
The launch of Order Trends reflects NuORDER's continued commitment to wholesale technology innovation—and comes at a time when retailers are actively seeking better ways to work, sell, and grow. According to Lightspeed's recent Retail Sentiment Survey², 49.6% of retailers say they want to reduce the manual work required to access reports and insights. Meanwhile, 48.8% are looking for better visibility into what areas of their business can be optimized. Retailers currently spend an average of 20 hours per week ordering and restocking products, making the need for time-saving tools and intelligent workflows more urgent than ever. According to NuORDER's recent Buyer preference survey³, 68% of retailers use intuition/past experience to plan what inventory to buy, where Order Trends can now give them data-driven insights allowing them to optimize and make purchasing decisions more confidently.
Article content
In fact, the Lightspeed Retail Sentiment Survey further revealed that 36.6% of retailers want to improve how they discover and add new types of products they don't currently stock—underscoring the demand for more data-informed, exploratory buying.
Article content
'It's not just about smarter buying—it's about faster buying too,' said Akrimi. 'As retailers navigate crowded marketplaces, Order Trends helps reduce decision fatigue and streamline workflows. High-performing products are highlighted during the shopping journey, allowing buyers to quickly identify what's working and curate assortments in less time. That confidence translates into action, accelerating sell-in, driving higher sell-through and saving retailers valuable hours each week.'
Article content
For wholesaling brands, the benefits are equally powerful. Order Trends automatically amplifies top-selling SKUs, driving greater exposure and reducing time spent on product education or back-and-forth communication. As buyers make faster, more confident decisions, brands benefit from quicker conversions and stronger alignment with market demand. They also gain access to rich, actionable trend insights that can inform product strategy, marketing, and sales conversations.
Article content
And the value doesn't stop at the individual brand or buyer level. 47.7% of retailers surveyed² say they want to expand their customer reach and discover new growth opportunities as a long-term goal. Order Trends helps facilitate those connections—giving retailers confidence to explore new merchandising possibilities, and brands the visibility they need to reach high-intent buyers at scale.
Article content
Order Trends is currently available to NuORDER buyers submitting orders in USD, with expansion to other currencies planned in future updates.

Ottawa mayor pitches 3.75% tax increase in 2026; biggest hike for police in 15 years

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is proposing a budget for 2026 that could see major hikes to transit fares and a big increase for police. CTV's Natalie van Rooy reports. An error has occurred. Please ensure your web browser is up to date before trying again. If applicable, disable any virtual private network (VPN) and ad blocker. [3003/4032] Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe says his proposal for the the 2026 budget would keep the overall property tax increase smaller than many other major cities, but it would also include what he called the biggest budget increase for police in 15 years. The 2026 draft budget directions document, prepared for the Finance and Corporate Services Committee, directs staff to develop the budget with an overall net tax requirement increase of no more than 3.75 per cent, which includes a city-wide tax levy increase of up to 2.9 per cent and higher levies for police and public transit. ADVERTISEMENT 'To date, the City has avoided an additional 10 per cent tax increase over this Term of Council through $207.5 million of achieved savings. These efficiencies reduce the overall tax supported net requirement while maintaining service and balancing affordability,' staff say. A 3.75 per cent tax hike would cost the average urban property owner an extra $166 next year. Major budget increase for police The Ottawa Police Services levy would be increased between 2.9 per cent and 6.5 per cent in 2026. 'It represents the largest increase in the police budget in more than 15 years … but it comes at a time when it's needed to serve our community,' Sutcliffe told reporters at a news conference on Thursday. Sutcliffe says this is necessary to cover the costs of the Ottawa Police Service's new district policing model and staff stabilization plan to hire more police officers. 'Our residents have been asking for better and more effective policing. They want to see more officers patrolling our streets. They want faster response times. They want to feel safe in their community,' he said. 'We need to support these important changes by investing further in policing and public safety.' Concept of South Facility A conceptual image of the future Ottawa Police South Facility on Prince of Wales Drive, as shown at a topping off ceremony on May 9, 2025. (Peter Szperling/CTV News Ottawa) A 6.5 per cent increase would add an estimated $25 million to the net operating budget for Ottawa police, pushing it to approximately $414 million. Transit improvements 'cost money' The budget directions say the transit levy could increase anywhere between 3 per cent and 15 per cent next year, and fares would go up anywhere between 2.5 per cent and 7.5 per cent. 'Public transit is vitally important to our community and to our economy,' Sutcliffe said. 'Earlier this year, we successfully launched Lines 2 and 4 of light rail, and in the coming months, we'll open the eastern extension of Line 1 to Orléans—another huge milestone for transit. We're also continuing to purchase more electric buses to make our transit service greener and more reliable… These improvements cost money, so another boost in transit funding is required.' Ottawa LRT The O-Train operates on Line 1 on Thursday, July 3, 2025. (Andrew Adlington/CTV News Ottawa) The document says staff are directed to produce a list of operating efficiencies to reduce the overall fare and transit tax levy requirement. Staff are also directed to find capital investment deferrals for consideration, and any funding related to the provincial commitment to upload the Ottawa LRT. A 2.5 per cent transit fare hike would add approximately $3 to the price of an adult monthly bus pass. A 7.5 per cent increase would increase the monthly fare by approximately $10. Sutcliffe said the larger increases to the police and transit levies would be made to fit within his goal of keeping the overall tax increase at 3.75 per cent next year. 'We will continue to have among the lowest tax increases of any major city in Canada,' he said. 'It won't be easy to hit these targets, but we owe it to our residents to do everything possible to achieve this important balance between investing in what matters most and keeping life affordable.' 'There are a lot of needs and pressures, but we will continue to do the heavy lifting to find savings and efficiencies,' Sutcliffe said. Other fee increases include a 10 per cent increase in the garbage fee, which would add an extra $2 per month to what the average single family home pays. Recreation fees are expected to rise 2.9 per cent next year. The Finance and Corporate Services Committee meets Sept. 2 to discuss the budget directions. The 2026 draft budget will be presented to city council on Nov. 12, and the final adoption vote will take place on Dec. 10.

By moving from large upfront hardware investments to flexible, subscription-based models, hospitals can achieve cost savings of around 30 % while scaling operations to meet fluctuating patient volumes and emerging technology needs. Cloud platforms also enable AI and machine learning integration, supporting advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and smarter operational decisions. While public cloud currently leads the market due to cost advantages, hybrid models are expected to grow fastest, balancing data security with operational flexibility in regulated healthcare environments. Real-world examples highlight the impact, AdventHealth completed a $660 million migration of 37 hospitals to Epic's cloud-hosted EHR, and NHS Trusts deployed cloud-based TeleTracking software for patient flow and bed management. These implementations demonstrate how cloud HIS drives efficiency, reduces wait times, and delivers actionable insights, underscoring its strategic value and growth potential in the global HIS market. The rapid growth of digital health records and the global shift toward value-based care make seamless data exchange essential for improving outcomes, reducing costs, and enhancing healthcare quality. Interoperability, the ability of systems, applications, and devices to access, exchange, and integrate data, now plays a critical role in coordinated care. Vendors actively develop HIS platforms with open architecture and standardized data formats, while forming partnerships, pursuing mergers, and offering third-party interoperability as a service solution to meet the rising demand for connected, patient-centric healthcare. Global HIS Market: North America Dominates, APAC Surges Ahead North America holds over 40% of the global hospital information system (HIS) market, driven by regulatory pressure for open data, rapid cloud adoption, and strong demand for advanced analytics and AI. Market consolidation is likely around vendors with proven interoperability, cloud capabilities, and validated outcomes, while new entrants focus on specialized and ambulatory segments. Health systems prioritize governance, change management, and turning data into safer, more efficient care over HIS brand alone. The U.S. remains the most influential market, combining deep capital, dense vendor ecosystems, regulatory requirements for interoperability and patient access, and high adoption of analytics, telehealth, and cloud services. Meanwhile, APAC is projected to grow at a CAGR of 12.03%, fueled by aging populations, rising incomes, and government-backed digital health initiatives. Hospitals are moving from isolated EMRs to enterprise HIS suites that integrate clinical, administrative, supply chain, and population-health functions, while telemedicine, decision support, and digital workflows continue to drive adoption and efficiency. Youngest group of first-time buyers make up large share of Ontario home purchases, data show

The youngest age group of first-time homebuyers accounts for a large share of purchases in Ontario, according to new data, raising questions about how unaffordable housing actually is in the country's most populated province. Amongst solo first-time buyers of condos, those 30 years and younger were responsible for 41.5 per cent of the purchases over the past five years, according to a report by Teranet, the province's land registry agency. That same age group of solo buyers also accounted for 38.5 per cent of single-family house purchases over the same time period, according to the data. Teranet called this a surprising trend given the affordability challenges younger buyers typically face in Ontario, and said it may be indicative of financial support from family or other sources. The youngest cohort's buying pattern is similar to older first-time buyers between the ages of 30 and 40, who are typically earning higher wages. Among solo first-time buyers of condos, this older group accounted for 42.1 per cent of purchases over the past five years, according to the Teranet report, and 40 per cent of house purchases. The report did not provide data from previous years, so it is not known how under-30-year-olds fared in the housing market when homes were cheaper. The report also found that in recent years, more first-time home buyer condo purchases have been made by individuals and not by couples. That reversed a pattern that began after 2015 when fewer buyers bought a condo by themselves. At the time, stricter mortgage rules were being introduced, requiring buyers to prove they could meet their mortgage payments at higher interest rates. Emily Cheung, Teranet's director of data analytics and insights, said the recent change 'may be suggestive of financial help from alternative sources, but we do not know this is the cause definitively.' The report said that first-time buyers of condos favoured already built or resale properties. Only 20 per cent of first-time buyers were choosing new properties. In general, older condos have more space and are cheaper than new product. Because of that, buyers have been gravitating toward them and shunning preconstruction condos. That has contributed to the worst slowdown in preconstruction sales in the Toronto region since the 1990s. In an attempt to help younger Canadians enter the housing market, the federal government has taken a step toward cutting the price of preconstruction homes. It has proposed legislation that would waive the 5-per-cent federal goods and services tax for first-time preconstruction homebuyers as long as they plan to live in the property. The typical home price in Canada was $693,300 in July, according to Canadian Real Estate Association data. That is up from $567,500 five years ago and $437,100 in 2015. In the Toronto region, the country's most populated area, the typical home price was $981,000 in July. That is up from $849,900 five years ago and $589,000 in 2015, according to CREA data.
