MJ Lenderman Lends Some Twang to This Is Lorelei's ‘Dancing in the Club'
Lenderman's rendition of the tune is set to appear on the upcoming deluxe edition of Box for Buddy, Box for Star, the breakthrough LP for musician Nate Amos (who's also one half of the experimental duo Water From Your Eyes). Where This Is Lorelei's original is a glittering, up-tempo gem that gestures towards sprightly synth pop, Lenderman fittingly tackles the song with a bit more high and lonesome twang.

Amos helped Lenderman record this new version of 'Dancing in the Club' late last year. 'I really loved working on the MJ version of 'Dancing in the Club' — Jake is chill AF and mad talented,' Amos said in a statement. 'More so than any other song I've written this one was dreamt up for others to sing, so it was pretty freaky watching it fall into place with someone like Jake handling lead vocals.'
Lenderman, who's been performing 'Dancing in the Club' at some of his recent shows, added, 'Box For Buddy was by far the album I listened to most in 2024. I had a great time re-recording 'Dancing in the Club' with Nate back in December.'
Along with Lenderman's take on 'Dancing in the Club' the Box for Buddy deluxe edition will feature new versions of 'Two Legs' with Snail Mail's Lindsey Jordan and 'Angel's Eye' by Amos' father and sister, Bob and Sarah (a celebrated bluegrass duo in their own right). The deluxe edition is set to arrive April 25 via Double Double Whammy.
This Is Lorelei has a few more shows left on the current leg of their North American tour with Starcleaner Reunion. But they'll return to the road in late April, supporting Lenderman and his band the Wind, on a trek that runs through mid-May.

Morgan Wallen Is Making Sure He Won't Get Any Grammy Nominations by Not Submitting
Morgan Wallen is ensuring his streak of never receiving a solo Grammy nomination continues by declining to submit his latest album, I'm the Problem, for consideration. Wallen's team confirmed the news to Rolling Stone, after it was first reported by Hits Daily Double and Billboard. Not only will Wallen not submit I'm the Problem — which has spent 11 weeks so far at Number One on the Billboard 200 — in any of the album categories, he also won't submit individual recordings in categories like Record of the Year or Best Country Solo Performance. But as Billboard notes, Wallen's team won't stop any of the songwriters he worked with from putting up their work for consideration. Wallen isn't the first major artist to decline to submit their music to the Grammys. Most recently, Drake, the Weeknd, and Frank Ocean have rebuffed the institution, criticizing the nominations committees and voting body for being disconnected from what's actually popular and meaningful to contemporary audiences, especially in their worlds of hip-hop and R&B. After he declined to submit Blonde, Ocean said in a 2016 interview that the Grammys don't 'seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down.' He added: 'I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated. I'd rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.' (The Recording Academy has taken some steps in recent years to diversify its voters and nominees, and add some transparency to its nominations process. Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. noted these efforts at the 67th Grammys in February before introducing a beef-squashing performance from the Weeknd.) Former Pixies Bassist Paz Lenchantin Stages Mini Perfect Circle Reunion on New Single ‘Hang Tough'
Paz Lenchantin, who played bass in the Pixies between 2014 and 2024 following stints in Zwan and A Perfect Circle, is re-launching her solo career with the upcoming LP Triste. The album arrives October 17, and she's just dropped leadoff single 'Hang Tough' along with a video. 'I had to make this record on my own,' Lenchantin says in a statement, 'not to prove anything, but just to have faith that music can nurture me back. And it did.' Cole Scores Best-Selling Week of 2018 With 'KOD' Lenchantin created much of the music on Triste herself, but she did recruit two of her former Perfect Circle bandmates — drummer Josh Freese and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen — to join her in the studio. She was also accompanied by Spanish-speaking musicians she met after posting a notice on Instagram. The album began to take shape last year in Petatlán, Mexico, when Lenchantin wrote a series of songs about a young woman falling in love with Jesus. 'Lenchantin isn't necessarily religious,' reads an official album bio, 'she saw the story as a metaphor for salvation: the human drive to search for a god, or god-like figure, and to devote yourself to something that cannot love you back…This guiding metaphor shaped the album's dream-like logic, with each lyric refracting a fragment of Lenchantin's own life into broader analogy.' 'What was special to me in making this album was that I learned who I am, this far into my journey in music, simply by allowing myself the freedom of my own choice,' Lenchantin said. 'It became like witnessing a fallen tree in my own forest, without the need to yell 'timber.'' The music is a vast departure from her work with the Pixies. She joined the alt-rock icons in 2014 after the group parted ways with bassist Kim Shattuck. 'Charles [Thompson, a.k.a. Black Francis] is the greatest artist I've ever worked with,' she told Rolling Stone in 2022 as part of our Unknown Legends interview series. 'I used to be like, 'This is missing in this band, and this is missing in this band…' But working with Charles, Joey [Santiago], and David [Lovering] really glued me together and completed me in every way I was looking for. It really is the peak of the mountain.' In 2024, after recording three albums with them and touring the world many times over, the Pixies announced that they were parting ways with her. 'My departure is a bit of a surprise to me as it is to many,' Lenchantin told Rolling Stone when the news broke, 'but it looks like they have a solid plan figured out, which in turn has pushed me to move onwards onto new projects that I am excited about.' Not long afterward, a 'major artist' asked Lenchantin if she'd join her band as a bass player. 'I froze,' she says in the album bio, stating that her past experiences in high-profile groups left her 'traumatized.' 'And how far can that get you?' she asks, noting that she turned down the gig in favor of creating Triste. 'Otherwise,' she said, 'you're just going around in a circle.'
