Dodgers Predicted to Trade For an 'Impact Bat' to Replace Michael Conforto
The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best offenses in baseball. Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith have the Dodgers second in baseball in team OPS at .776.
But, even with a strong offense, Fabian Ardaya in The Athletic's "Bold Predictions" article had the Dodgers' trade deadline plans revolving around finding more offense. He predicts that "The biggest deadline acquisition will be a bat."
"They have three former MVPs and the current leader in the NL batting race." Ardaya wrote. "They have a bigger priority in the bullpen that they'll need to address. But one way to mitigate all the questions about the Dodgers' pitching staff is to create a lineup with no holes."
The Dodgers offense is already strong, and the pitching staff is full of question marks, and yet, Ardaya predicts that the Dodgers will go after an offensive upgrade. And there's one clear way to upgrade the offense: replace Michael Conforto.
"The Dodgers clearly saw that in adding Michael Conforto this winter," Ardaya writes, "But that hasn't worked out - he has a .620 OPS. If they can find a way to add an impact bat, they can move around the pieces to make everything else work."
Other than Conforto's .620 OPS this season, he has -0.6 WAR, and is batting just .184 on the year. His 76 OPS+ is by far the worst in his career, nearly 20 percent worse than his previous career low of 95 OPS+ in 2016.
Adding a replacement for Conforto would go a long way. If they find a new left fielder, the Dodgers' lineup would be, from top to bottom, one of the most dangerous in the league.
While pitching is still a need, and Ardaya isn't shutting down the possibility of adding bullpen help especially, the biggest addition according to his prediction will be a bat. And the most obvious player to replace is Conforto in left field.

Big Ben Gets Big Recognition
Big Ben Gets Big Recognition originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most historic franchises in the NFL. They've been part of the league since the Rooney family brought them to Pittsburgh in 1933. Over the decades, many legendary players have worn the black and gold. The Steelers have claimed six Super Bowl titles and won 24 division championships with 32 former players, coaches and executives enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One of the most notable players in recent history is Ben Roethlisberger, who led the team at quarterback from 2004-21. On Saturday, the team announced Roethlisberger will be inducted into the Steelers' Hall of Honor as part of the Class of 2025. He was one of three players selected, and the news was shared on the team's official social media channels. Roethlisberger is a two-time Super Bowl champion and was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2004. During his career, he led the league in passing yards twice and was selected to six Pro Bowls. Before his time in Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger played college football at Miami (Ohio) and was selected 11th overall in the 2004 NFL Draft. He still holds several NFL records, including most career 500-yard passing games (four) and most completions in a single game (47). He is also tied for most wins by a rookie quarterback (13) with Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. Joining Roethlisberger in the 2025 Hall of Honor class are Joey Porter and Maurkice Pouncey. Porter played linebacker for the Steelers from 1999-2006 and helped them win Super Bowl XL. Pouncey, a nine-time Pro Bowler, played center in Pittsburgh from 2010-20 after winning the 2009 BCS National Championship at Florida. The Steelers established the Hall of Honor in 2007 to recognize the most impactful figures in franchise history. To be eligible, players must be retired for at least three years and have played a minimum of three seasons with the team. Roethlisberger, Porter and Pouncey will be honored on Dec. 15 when the Steelers face the Miami Dolphins on "Monday Night Football." Verse Has Strong Name for Rams Legend
Verse Has Strong Name for Rams Legend originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aaron Donald has been out of the NFL for a full season, but his impact still lingers with the Los Angeles Rams. Donald announced his retirement in March 2024, and now in July 2025, Jared Verse is still talking about him. Sort of. The 2024 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year sounded exhausted just recalling his time with Donald. On Saturday, the former Florida State star spoke to the media at Loyola Marymount University. When the topic of Donald and his legendary workouts came up, Verse didn't hold back. While it's clear Verse has a ton of respect for the future Hall of Famer, his nickname for him was... intense. "I'm telling ya, he's a psychopath." Verse described just how brutal the training was. "I need another offseason to recover from all that. It was so bad. I worked out with multiple programs. I worked out with hundreds of people," he said. "The best athletes in the NFL. The best athletes in college. That was the hardest workout I've ever done. Not even close." The second-year linebacker wrapped it up with a comparison every college athlete understands. "You know those [expletive] days in college? Couldn't raise a candle to that." Verse backed up his words with a standout rookie season. He finished 2024 with 66 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Along with winning Defensive Rookie of the Year, he made the Pro Bowl and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. The Rams went 10-7, won the NFC West and reached the postseason. They beat the Minnesota Vikings in the first round before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles 28-22 in the divisional round. Training with Aaron Donald certainly didn't hurt. The retired defensive tackle was one of the most dominant defenders of his era. He helped lead the Rams to a Super Bowl LVI title, won three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards, made ten Pro Bowls and was the 2014 Defensive Rookie of the Year. The Rams kick off their preseason on August 9 against the Dallas Cowboys. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 26, 2025, where it first appeared.

Rece Davis Names College Football Playoff Contender That Can Answer Huge Questions in Week 1
Rece Davis Names College Football Playoff Contender That Can Answer Huge Questions in Week 1 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The wait for college football to start is nearly over as Week 1 of the 2025 season is about a month away. While there were many intriguing storylines in 2024, the upcoming season may already surpass them with what's at stake. There's a new College Football Playoff format again, bluebloods looking to recover after down years in 2024 and a whole lot of key matchups throughout the year. Unlike the wait for the season itself, which at times has felt long, fans may not have to wait long for a potential game of the year as Week 1 is loaded with marquee matchups. However, the one that most are looking forward to is the battle between the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes and the Texas Longhorns. When discussing the matchup on a recent "College GameDay Podcast," Rece Davis expressed that between the two teams, Texas has a chance to answer some lofty questions. "I will also build up, we'll find out that Texas can answer the questions that people have about them," Davis said. "Which the questions are, how are they going to be on the offensive line? And, how are they going to be on the defensive line? I think the answer will be just fine." The Longhorns lost four starting offensive linemen to the NFL, and also saw four players from the defensive line rotation make the jump as well. Not to mention, the Longhorns also will be trotting out Arch Manning at quarterback for what will be his third career start. While one game won't make or break a season for either team, it'll certainly give one of them a major confidence story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 21, 2025, where it first appeared.
