Mopa-London direct flights from Oct 26

Panaji: Offering hope to Goan expats and British tourists, Air India indicated the resumption of direct flights from Mopa to London (Gatwick) from Oct 26. Air India, currently facing a shortage of aircraft, is expected to operate three flights per week. The airline announced that the route will be operated thrice a week — on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays — using its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. Officials at Mopa's Manohar International Airport said that the private airline has slots for the direct flight and can resume operations whenever feasible for the airline. The airline's website has opened up bookings for the direct flight, with economy fares beginning at Rs 31,300 for a one-way flight to London on Oct 26. 'Air India has not cancelled their slots with us. They still have the slots for the London flights, and they can resume operations as soon as they want,' said GMR Goa International Airport Ltd official. Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade had mentioned the need to restore the Goa–London Gatwick flight during the Zero Hour in Parliament. Air India launched the non-stop flight to London in July 2023 with three flights per week. The flight offered a vital travel link for thousands of Goans, including students and senior citizens, living in the UK. The suspension of the flight following the crash at Ahmedabad caused inconvenience to Goans travelling to London. Air India is currently undergoing a $400 million fleet-wide refurbishment programme, with a significant focus on upgrading its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners and the Boeing 777 aircraft. This modernisation programme, which will continue well into 2027, has proved to be a challenge for the airline in terms of operational deployment. Resumption of the direct flights to London comes just as Goa's charter season picks up and tourism inflows commence for the travel season. India Resumes Russian Oil Imports State-run oil companies Indian Oil (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) have restarted purchases of Russian crude for September and October deliveries. The decision was driven by rising discounts on Russian oil. According to two company officials quoted by Reuters, these firms had stopped buying in July when discounts had narrowed, but are now benefiting from a $3 per barrel discount on Russian Urals crude. Trump had imposed tariffs on many countries worldwide and issued several warnings. He threatened that if India continued to buy crude oil from Russia he may penalise the country with more tariffs. IndianOil, Air India Sign MoU To Supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Check Details

Last Updated: The agreement underscores the shared commitment of both companies to support global decarbonization efforts and accelerate the transition toward cleaner air transport. Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Air India on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking a step toward reducing carbon emissions in India's aviation sector. As per a press release by IndianOil, the MoU was signed by Shailesh Dhar, executive director (Aviation) at IndianOil, and P. Balaji, group head – governance, regulatory, compliance (GRC) and corporate affairs at Air India, in the presence of A. S. Sahney, chairman of IndianOil, and Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India. The agreement underscores the shared commitment of both companies to support global decarbonization efforts and accelerate the transition toward cleaner air transport. Highlighting the significance of the agreement, A. S. Sahney said, 'The signing of this MoU with Air India represents a strategic step in India's transition to sustainable aviation. With our ISCC-CORSIA-certified SAF from Panipat, IndianOil is ready to provide a sustainable fuel solution that will help decarbonize air travel. Partnering with India's flagship carrier, we are aligning national growth with global climate goals and setting a benchmark for the industry." This development builds upon IndianOil's milestone achievement of becoming the first Indian company to receive ISCC CORSIA certification for SAF production at its Panipat Refinery. The certification, granted under the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), confirms IndianOil's ability to produce SAF that complies with stringent global standards on sustainability and lifecycle carbon emissions. Air India's CEO and MD, Campbell Wilson, noted that the airline's collaboration with IndianOil is part of its broader sustainability agenda. 'Through this MoU with IndianOil, Air India is committed to support the Government of India's initiatives to promote sustainable development in the aviation sector and to further its own sustainability goals to achieve the IATA Net Zero by 2050 target," Wilson said. By integrating certified green fuels into commercial operations, the partnership aims to ensure a reliable and transparent SAF supply chain that not only meets but potentially exceeds CORSIA targets for international flights. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
