Two dead in 11-rider British Supersport crash at Oulton Park
Supersport riders Owen Jenner, 21, and Shane Richardson, 29, died after a crash involving 11 bikes at the start of a race at Oulton Park on Monday, circuit owners Motor Sport Vision (MSV) said.
Tom Tunstall, 47, was in hospital with significant back and abdominal injuries and a further five riders were taken to the medical centre with minor injuries at the circuit in northern England.
The race was stopped immediately after the chain-reaction crash at the exit to turn one on the opening lap, with the British Superbike championship event then cancelled.
MSV said British rider Jenner was treated trackside initially but died from a catastrophic head injury after being taken to the circuit medical centre.
New Zealander Richardson was also treated trackside and then at the medical centre but died with severe chest injuries prior to arrival at Royal Stoke University Hospital.
MSV said it and the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board were investigating along with the coroner and police. REUTERS

Britain's National Crime Agency previously said Emmanuel-Thomas had recruited his girlfriend and another woman to travel to Thailand, where Emmanuel-Thomas briefly played in 2019, to collect the cannabis and smuggle it to Britain. The two women were also charged with smuggling cannabis but the prosecution offered no evidence against them and the charges were dropped on Wednesday, the NCA added. Emmanuel-Thomas sat in the dock as Judge Alexander Mills told him: "Your transition from professional footballer to criminal represents a substantial fall from grace, one that effectively ends the only career path that you have ever known." He will serve 40% of that sentence in custody before he is released on licence. Prosecutor David Josse said the 60 kg of cannabis had a street value of approximately 600,000 pounds (roughly $816,000) and a wholesale value of around 250,000 pounds, though Emmanuel-Thomas was paid 5,000 pounds for his involvement. "This was an isolated incident (and) a catastrophic error of judgment," Emmanuel-Thomas' lawyer Alex Rose told the court. Late Behich strike puts Australia on brink of World Cup
Left back Aziz Behich scored a last-minute winner as Australia moved to the brink of qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Japan in Perth on Thursday. With time running out, Behich pounced on Riley McGree's cut back and turned to lash the ball into the net to the delight of a crowd of 57,226 that had endured a laboured performance from the Socceroos. Australia remain in second place in Group C behind the already qualified Japanese and will go through to the finals if third-placed Saudi Arabia fail to beat Bahrain in Riffa later on Thursday. Even if the later result in Bahrain goes against them, Australia's superior goal difference means they will progress to a sixth successive World Cup with anything barring a heavy defeat when they meet the Saudis in Jeddah next Tuesday. "It's a great feeling," said Behich. "It was a tough game. We knew we had to grind it out. The boss at halftime said no matter how tough it gets, we'll get our opportunity if we stick to it. And fortunately enough, it fell for me." Australia's first win over Samurai Blue in 16 years and Japan's first international loss since February last year looked highly unlikely for 89 minutes until Behich struck. Japan, who were the first country to qualify for the World Cup, rested most of their top players and fielded a team with three debutants but still dominated possession as Australia struggled to get a foothold in the contest. Outworked and starved of the ball, the Socceroos won their first corner after half an hour which resulted in their first shot, a glancing header wide from Connor Metcalfe. For all their possession, the Samurai Blue produced little to trouble Mat Ryan in the Australia goal with new cap Yu Hirakawa coming closest to scoring with a low shot that flew past the post in the 37th minute.
