General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons says received reports of possible mass graves in Abusleem Zoo
The General Authority for Search and Identification of Missing Persons reported yesterday that it has received reports from families of missing persons, alleging the possible presence of mass graves inside Abusleem Zoo.
The Zoo, located in Abusleem, was under the control of the Stability Support Apparatus (SSA) headed previously by Abdelghani ''Ghnewa'' Al-Kikly.
Ghnewa was killed in contested circumstances Monday 12 May during or after a meeting with military commanders aligned to the Tripoli based Libyan government headed by Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba. The contested circumstances of Ghnewa's death led to intense militia clashes in Tripoli.
The death of Ghnewa and the disintegration of his SSA militia has meant that there is now open access to the Zoo, previously closed off by his forces.
Calls on missing persons families to submit reports to prosecution offices
Based on these reports, the Authority calls on the families of missing persons to submit their reports to the relevant prosecution offices and refer them to the Authority. This will enable the Authority to begin its work after being assigned by the Public Prosecution, starting next week, to conduct field investigations and surveys at the site, using specialized teams and the necessary scanning equipment.
Possible presence of mass graves
Initial reports from the families of the victims indicate serious indications of the possible presence of mass graves, which necessitates handling the matter with the utmost caution and legal and humanitarian responsibility.
In this context, the Authority called on all families of missing persons who have not yet contacted it to submit their relevant information and reports through official channels. This will support search and investigation efforts and enable the Authority to expand its scope and reach the largest possible number of cases.
The Authority affirmed its full commitment to the right of victims and their families to know the fate of their children and said it will inform the public of the results of its investigations once the legal and technical procedures are completed.

UNSMIL condemns militia and government security forces clashes
Yesterday, UNSMIL condemned the truce violations between militias and government forces during the Eid holidays in Tripoli, including the violence of Sunday night and the attack on the premises of the High National Election Commission. UNSMIL urged all parties to respect the truce and not undermine it. ''When conflict occurs in urban areas, the propensity for civil casualties is very high. Law enforcement should have as its main objective not just preventing crime, but importantly the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure as much as possible so that people can go about their daily lives in peace. The Mission is closely monitoring violations and reminds all to avoid provocative acts and escalation and to resort to dialogue through the truce mechanism. UNSMIL is actively engaging with key stakeholders to address the emerging challenges to ensure the sustainability of the truce and urges all parties to commit to it. Israeli navy attacks Yemen's rebel-held port city of Hodeida for first time in the conflict
The Israeli navy attacked docks in Yemen's rebel-held port city of Hodeida on Tuesday, likely damaging facilities that are key to aid shipments to the hungry, war-wracked nation. The Israeli military said navy missile ships conducted the strikes, the first time its forces have been involved in attacks against the Houthi rebels. Tuesday's attack comes as the Houthis have repeatedly launched missiles and drones targeting Israel during its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Houthis announced the attack via their al-Masirah satellite news channel. They said the attack targeted docks there, without elaborating. Late Monday, Israel issued online warnings to Yemenis to evacuate from Ras Isa, Hodeida and al-Salif ports over the Houthis' alleged use of seaports for attacks. 'The port is used to transfer weapons and is a further example of the Houthi terrorist regime's cynical exploitation of civilian infrastructure in order to advance terrorist activities,' the Israeli military said in a statement Tuesday. Hodeida also is the main entry point for food and other humanitarian aid for millions of Yemenis since the war began when the Houthis seized Yemen's capital, Sanaa, in 2014. The Houthis have been launching persistent missile and drone attacks against commercial and military ships in the region in what the group's leadership has described as an effort to end Israel's offensive in Gaza. From November 2023 until January 2025, the Houthis targeted more than 100 merchant vessels with missiles and drones, sinking two of them and killing four sailors. That has greatly reduced the flow of trade through the Red Sea corridor, which typically sees $1 trillion of goods move through it annually. The Houthis paused attacks in a self-imposed ceasefire until the U.S. launched a broad assault against the rebels in mid-March. President Donald Trump paused those attacks just before his trip to the Mideast, saying the rebels had "capitulated" to American demands. Early Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth wrote on the social platform X that U.S. Navy ships had traveled through the Red Sea and its Bab el-Mandeb Strait "multiple times in recent days" without facing Houthi attacks. 'These transits occurred without challenge and demonstrate the success of both Operation ROUGH RIDER and the President's Peace Through Strength agenda,' Hegseth wrote ahead of facing Congress for the first time since sharing sensitive military details of America's military campaign against the Houthis in a Signal chat. It's unclear how the Houthis will respond now that an attack has come from the sea, rather than the air, from the Israelis.

Algeria seeks to facilitate the flow of Algerian goods and services to the Libyan market
Algerian media reported that Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Minister Kamal Rezig chaired a coordination meeting last Wednesday (4 June) with a number of economic operators active in the field of exports to the Libyan market. The meeting was devoted to discussing ways to facilitate the flow of Algerian goods and services to this market, according to a Ministry statement. The Libyan market is deemed one of the most promising markets for Algerian products and services. This meeting is part of a series of consultations between the ministry and various economic actors, in the presence of the Governor of the Bank of Algeria, the Commissioner-General of the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions, the Vice-President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council, as well as officials from the ministry. During the meeting, Minister Rezig affirmed his commitment to helping ensure the flow of Algerian exports, by supporting logistical aspects, improving the regulatory framework, and strengthening coordination with banking and financial authorities to secure commercial transactions. Promotion of exports outside the hydrocarbon sector The minister stressed that these efforts fall within the framework of the implementation of the strategy to promote exports outside the hydrocarbon sector, in implementation of the directives of the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who he said attaches great importance to activating the economic partnership between Algeria and neighbouring countries. The minister also highlighted that the Libyan market is a natural extension of Algerian exports, and provides promising opportunities not only for the marketing of products, but also for the establishment of lasting and solid economic partnerships. During the meeting, Algerian exporters expressed their concerns and reviewed the obstacles they face on the ground, with the aim of reaching practical solutions in coordination with various sectors, especially financial and banking.
