Kerala HC asks State government to take a decision on pleas of Akshaya entrepreneurs
The directive was passed by Justice N. Nagaresh recently while disposing of a writ petition filed by the federation. The court made it clear that the members of the petitioner shall execute the current agreement and this judgment will not be an excuse for not executing the current agreement.
According to the petitioner, the State government has reiterated time and again that all government-to-citizen services shall only be routed through Akshaya Centres. The petitioner also pointed out that every Akshaya entrepreneur has to execute an agreement with the government. It was in 2013 that an agreement was executed with the entrepreneurs for the first time. They were compelled by the authorities to execute unilateral agreements, the petitioner alleged. In fact, various service fees have not been revised since 2018 and a majority of them find the going tough in the face of increased cost of operations. No discussion had been held with the Akshaya entrepreneurs at any point of time despite a detailed representation on this and various other issues faced by the entrepreneurs was submitted to the government.

Mahadevan, Judge, Supreme Court of India, on Saturday. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor, VIT, said that at present, parents especially from the middle and lower class were finding it challenging to pay fees of their children especially for higher studies in private universities. In this regard, the government should share at least a portion of fees paid by parents as it will encourage more students from rural areas to pursue higher education. 'Tamil Nadu tops in allocating the highest share of its budget allocation for education in the country with 21% of its budget in 2025-26. On the contrary, the Centre has allocated only 2.5% of its budget allocation of Rs 55 lakh crore for education this year (2025-26). On the occasion, Sandeep Rai Rathore, Director General of Police, Training, Police Training Headquarters, Chennai, received his Ph.D in Disaster Mitigation and Management at VIT, Vellore. A total of 11,563 students got their degree certificates including 451 PhD scholars. Earlier, as part of the event, Abdul Kalam and Jagadish Chandra Bose blocks, which were men's hostels, were inaugurated by Justice Mr. Mahadevan. Sankar Viswanathan and Sekar Viswanathan, vice-presidents, VIT, were present.

SPCSS-TN urges CM to hold consultation for better SEP
The State Platform for Common School System – Tamil Nadu (SPCSS-TN) has urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to hold direct consultation with members of the High Level Committee, educationists and other forums to strengthen the State Education Policy (SEP). In a letter to the Chief Minister, general secretary, SPCSS - TN P. B. Prince Gajendra Babu said, 'The non-availability of the Report of the High Level Committee in the public domain and the announcement of the policy without placing the draft for discussion, denied the democratic space for people to negotiate on certain proposals in the policy.' The letter further added that the State Policy should be grounded on the premises of the Constitution of India. 'The Policy should set the curricular goals. The policy should ensure that at the completion of basic education in schools, the student should have a clear vision that caste is a discriminatory social practice, and it is against the Constitution of India,' it added. Pointing out that the concept of Model Schools, VETRI Schools and involvement of volunteers in curricular activities are against the concept of Samacheer Kalvi Policy and the principles of Social Justice, he said that a policy cannot sustain inequalities. The letter also pointed out that permanent teaching and non-teaching staff are a must for continuous formative assessment and that budgetary allocations must be made instead of philanthropic contributions.

Plea to implement Right to Public Services Act rejected
1 2 Madurai: Madras high court has denied relief to a man seeking to implement Right to Public Services Act in Tamil Nadu to ensure that people could avail of various services rendered by the govt in a time-bound manner. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed in 2020 by K Gurunathan in this regard. He said while Rajasthan, Kerala and Gujarat passed the act, it wasn't passed by the Tamil Nadu govt. The state submitted that according to a GO dated June 4, 2025, grievance petitions submitted by citizens would be disposed of within 30 days. Therefore, if the petitioner submitted any petition, it would be considered and decided by the authorities concerned within this time limit. A division bench of Justice S M Subramaniam and Justice G Arul Murugan observed that the general prayer sought in the petition could not be granted. If the petitioner had any grievances, he could submit an application to the authority concerned for their redressal, the judges observed and disposed of the petition.
